Great place Year round

The Cleveland Metroparks are the jewels of the city. The South Chagrin reservation is a fantastic, large park filled with lots of picnic areas, trails of all difficulties and interesting sites. It’s all focused on the Chagrin River winding its way through the hilly, forested landscape. Henry Church Rock —— a carving by an early denizen —- is a highlight.

Park in the Valley
Aug 2019
Most of this gorgeous park lies in the Chagrin River Valley, although part climbs up the hill. Lots to do here from hiking trails to ball fields and lots of picnic places. Beautifully landscaped.

Great paths and variety of walks and never overly crowded. Ample parking in differing locations so you can vary the walks.

A fun place to visit any time of year
Feb 2019 • Solo
A fun place to go anytime of the year. Although I usually visit South Chagrin Reservation in the spring/summer/fall to walk I decided to go today after some snow showers. I think I was the only person in the park. Quiet with a small amount of snow covering the ground. I couldn't make it all the way to Squaw Rock because of the icy path, but the river and small falls were beautiful.

Great place to hike. If you go down by the river you will find Squaw Rock, which was carved a century ago. I love walking my dog here.

Cleveland Rock
Jan 2019 • Family
Squaw Rock, or now known as Henry Church Rock (dang PC police) is just one of the many sites to see in this extensive park. I echoe the frustrations of other reviewers about the lack of trail signage. There were no brochures available on a winter weekend so we didn't realize there was a lower trail along the river until after we had struggled a ways along the icy and snowpacked upper trail. It was too far to turn back and steps down were too icy to attempt so we will ahve to do that on another visit. Lots of kids were sledding down a decent hill at one park entrance. Never did find the lodge but enjoyed the hike and looking down on the river and falls from above.

Larger than it looks

This is one of our favorite reservations in the Cleveland Metroparks system. There are far more trail options than is apparent from just the main area near the parking lot next to the iconic Henry Church rock. Be sure to get a map from the rack outside the restroom next to that parking lot. There are many side trails, so it’s very easy to get lost (we have, several times) and the trails could be marked much better in places. Also, bear in mind that the park has several entrances very far from each other, so you’re much better off getting there using a real paper map rather than a navigation app. Wear good waterproof hiking shoes, since some of the most interesting and challenging trails are often muddy, especially after rain or snow.

Great park! Awesome trails! Beautiful river, pavillions, swings, lots of places for hiking, walking, jogging, fields for throwing frisbees and playing, places to have picnics, etc... it's a very large Great Park which expands over several miles.

Nice Place with Unmarked Trails
Aug 2018 • Couples
Wish the trails and trail junctions had signs so I could've known where we were going. We came to forks in trails and had no idea which way to go. Frustrating.
