Nice little stop-off if you're going to any of the museums nearby. It will be a different experience depending on the time of year you visit. I went in early October. Lots of mums were set up but not blooming yet. I plan to go back in a couple of weeks to see them in bloom and again in December to see the poinsettias. I spent about 1 1/2 hours here taking lots of pictures. Great place to visit on a cold dreary day~ it's warm and toasty inside!

This is a FABULOUS place -- kept up amazing well, despite a location in some of the worst inner city slums. It's worth putting on your big girl pants, and going to visit anyways. The gardens are amazing and beautiful, the grounds lovely -- exotic cactuses and tropical plants in an old fashioned greenhouse heated with clanking steam heat!
When I utterly despair in mid-winter and the days are dark at 4:45PM and you think spring will NEVER COME (a common feeling in Northeast Ohio....)....NOTHING lifts your morale like a trip to the City Greenhouse. WHY OH WHY do they not promote or publicize this amazing treasure more? Most people I know -- lifelong residents! -- have literally no idea it is here (and FREE!) and just a mile down the road from University Circle!
In the dead of winter I have pressed my cold aching body against those delicious warm radiators in the tropical room....and sat for hours breathing in the intoxicating oxygen in the cactus room...drying out my miserable Cleveland sinuses.
There is just nothing better here in town -- unspoiled, pure, simple, NOT commercialized...NO GIFT SHOP! nothing to buy. No annoying guides. Just enter a paradise of gardens and flowers year round, and feel your spirit rejuvenate.
An absolute must for visitors and locals alike!

I went with my grandchildren over Christmas break, as an alternative to the pricey and crowded Cleveland Botanical Garden. It was perfectly lovely. Not large, but large enough for a nice fern room, some display rooms filled with poinsettias, a nice desert garden (which the grandchildren particularly enjoyed) and lots of orchids. The kids also liked the full-grown citrus trees with fruit hanging from them.
Obviously the outside gardens didn't have much to show in December, but the kids wanted to show me the garden for the blind with the statue of Helen Keller by a pump and the braille signs on the raised beds. It would be lovely to visit again when the scented herbs were blooming.

We visited with two adults and two children (4,3). While there are a lot of plants from all over the world it really wasn't that interesting. We strolled around the area around the greenhouse and while it's always nice to be outside the grounds didn't seem to be well maintained. We drove 30 minutes to get here and it took all of five minutes to walk through. Not even worth stopping here if your in the area. Our children found the two fish tanks at the entrance the most interesting.

We were in from out of town and read the reviews for this greenhouse so decided to visit it. It's a nice little greenhouse, don't get me wrong, but it is not worth a trip out of the way. I can see where locals would enjoy a visit especially in the winter months, but visitors don't bother unless you're desperate for something free to do. The succulent/cactus collection was pretty amazing... so if that's a big draw for you, then I'd recommend.

The garden is free as is parking so I would definitely suggest taking an afternoon to visit this little gem in Cleveland. If you are in the University Circle area or showing out of town visitors the city take half an hour or so to explore the gardens. The grounds and indoor greenhouse are showing their age but there are still plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature. Also, plenty of great photo ops exist both inside and outside. The garden for the blind located on the grounds is a wonderful thing to see. Another plus is the public restrooms, which for anyone familiar with University Circle knows is a hard thing to come by! Enjoyable experience!

What a beautiful place to just stroll around and have a relaxing time. The more I looked, the more I saw. You really have to take your time and just enjoy it. I also like that it has free parking. It is a very short walk to the cultural gardens as well. I will definitely visit again during the other seasons.

In the greenhouse, the display changes seasonally with flowers, bulbs, or whatever makes sense. Always beautiful and peaceful. The orchid room and cactus room are fascinating and beautiful and as a kid I loved walking and finding all the paths. Outside the gardens are varied. Iris garden is stunning in spring and each outside garden has a theme or emphasis all different. It is always a free visit and it is at the northeast end of the cultural gardens which are also free and a lovely outdoor park.

This is the City of Cleveland's greenhouse. When you walk past city property planted with annuals, very good chance they originated here, so it isn't a "tourist attraction" in the true sense, but a functioning department that just happens to include a beautiful park. I have only been here once in the spring/summer/fall. I reserve this place for February when I can stand the cold and grey of winter no longer. Walking into the main room, with its banana, citrus and tropical plants, smells like Bahamas. You can smell the plants and the earth and it renews you. I won't give away anymore because I don't want to spoil the surprise. And as one reviewer pointed out--FREE.

If you are going to the museums at University Circle, or even if not, what a great place to visit. Absolutely fun and beautiful like a fancy botanical gardens place. It is free of charge and there is free parking available. I would recommend allocating about an hour of your time with, or without, kids. The history is very cool too. Built by the Rockefellers for public enjoyment. Work this into your plans to visit the art museum and Rockefeller Park.
Public restrooms are a plus!!!!

I have a 10 to 11 foot windmill palm tree that has been living outdoors in Cleveland's West Park area for nine years that I would like to donate to your botanical center. The tree is healthy and I would like to send a couple of photo's to you if you will give me an email address. I have four outdoors palms and this one is the tallest.. Can you provide me with a name and email so I can send the photos?
Thank You Douglas Murawski 216-251-4257.
