We spent about 2 hours here. The greenhouse/glass house was excellent - butterflies, interesting birds, plants, etc. And the outdoor gardens were varied and well cared for. Even on a hot day in June it was pleasant to visit. The cafe was perfect for grabbing lunch, including a variety of hot and cold items, and even some vegan options.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 20, 2024
- John TSouth Saint Paul, Minnesota182 contributionsOutstanding Botanical GardenCleveland Botanical Garden: Nicest botanical gardens that I have visited. Two campuses: a 240 acres garden in the heart of the city and 3,500 acre garden and preserve 20 miles outside of town. We visited the one in town and it was outstanding. It has two separate glass conservatories: one dedicated to Madagascar and the other Costa Rica. Each conservatories had a massive tree grown inside them that was the center piece of conservatory. The surrounding outside grounds had various different type of gardens with over a mile of winding paths through them. The staff was very helpful. I would strongly recommend this botanical garden.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 2, 2024
- KCHIEFANKansas80 contributionsRelaxing strollIt was a beautiful day to walk around the gardens and also checked out the fall foliage. It was easy to get around. I stayed for the butterfly release and didn’t realize that they take each one out and place on a person’s hand until they move and then fly away.Visited October 2024Traveled soloWritten October 20, 2024

We visit at the botanical gardens by car. Parking was underground. We paid $80 for a family of four including two children. The kids really enjoyed it. The building was very interactive. There was a treehouse that you could climb up to in a rainforest exhibit. There was a ladder you could climb in the middle of the forest. There was an area for kids, called the kids garden, where an employee had a bucket and nets and you were allowed to catch and release, frogs, and fish. It was very fun for them and for us as adults. There is a nice sitting area out on the patio, overlooking the gardens, with a small pond. The pond had blown glass. Yeah ornaments in it including small blown glass plants and water animals. It was very picturesque. There was a place to buy drinks and small snacks. There was a volunteer who taught us about chameleons and she showed us one. There were butterflies. There was an extra large baobab tree, and also some beautiful orchids. My 11 year old daughter gave it a five out of five, and I would also read it very highly. Definitely worth a visit and located in the middle of a lot of fun things to do and see. The gift shop is not as good – very expensive (more so even in the other gift shops, we visited that day)

Just seeing the glass dome on the top of this building was a mouth wide open experience even before entering. A beautiful sight to see and there were so many lovely things to see. We were able to see "The Billy Porter Experience", rly an eclectic collection of flowers, gowns, clothing, boots and hats on display. Loved the music tunes being played as we ventured throughout the gardens. There was a beautiful array of glass scultptures, flowers, & plants at every turn. I instantly fell in love with the tropical area. It was extremely warm inside and luckily I had a cloth to wipe my face often. Waterfalls, tiki huts, and pathways surrounded by big beautiful leafed plants. I loved Hawaii. I parked on the street next to a big park. No meter fees on Sunday. I can't wait to return. Sidebar: I got so many compliments on my dress that matched the glass sculptures.

The collection is so impressive with many one of a kind pieces. The staff is helpful and helped me find a piece I wanted to view. I urge anyone with some free time when in Cleveland to stop by the Art Center and be surprised by what you find.

Went the first week of December but there just wasn't much interesting to see except for a family crawling out from an elevator stuck between 1st & 2nd floors.
My friends and I are all native Clevelanders and avid lovers of nature but the indoor tropical forests were rather lame. In December, there obviously weren't any outside exhibits but we did walk around the outside area to look anyways.
The admission was crazy expensive - $19! Since there's nothing outside, why charge full price? And then $10 for parking. And why was this seasonal time called "Twinkle"? Aside from some seasonal decorations and gingerbread houses, it wasn't all that decked out. With the expensive admission cost, don't waste your time. You're better off going downtown and seeing real Christmas light displays for free!

Beautiful building and grounds with SO much potential. Yet the amount of dead and dying plants inside the glass houses made the place look sloppy and unkempt, especially compared to the Conservatories and gardens in Columbus and elsewhere that I've visited. I even asked one of the guides why there are so many leaves that appear to have been eaten by bugs. The orchid displays were fun, but cheesy. Also suggest reducing ticket price in winter time when outdoor gardens are quite not "alive". overall, pretty little spot that could use some extra love to make the high ticket price worth it.

We have been to a few botanical gardens in large cities, and this is by far the worst. We did go in October, and not much was in bloom. Also there was some kids Halloween event which shut off part of the garden; however, it didn't close of that much, and the part that was remaining was just boring and not that attractive. Around nearly every corner there was something else that was closed and off limits. Parking was a complete rip-off also. We spent $32 for admission for 2 adults, and $10 for parking. We felt ripped-off when we left.

Visited after the Cleveland Museum of Art located across the street. I had high expectations because I love butterflies and gardens.it cost $20 and I thought that was high for this garden. Not much to the Glass House where the butterflies are housed. Cool but not to many varieties. The gardens contain mostly big trees with some walking. Flowers were not much and mostly weddings taking place when I visited.

We visited in late autumn, so we expected the outdoor gardens to be winding down, but for the $40 admission we were hoping to see more indoor exhibits. We have been to the Franklin Park Conservatory multiple times, and I guess that set our expectations a bit too high. Perhaps if we had paid less for admission, we might not have walked away disappointed. Perhaps the botanical gardens should consider a reduced admissions price during the off-season...

Heading to Little Italy from the Art Museum and found this gem. We wanted to visit and didn't even realize it was right next to the museum. Reciprocal agreement with our Bok Tower membership too! Woooohoooo!
It was a slightly rainy day s we mostly had the place to ourselves - except for the chipmunks! They were all over, super cute!
Some of the water features aren't running, maybe that is typical for this time of year. There is a fun touch and smell area that is very interesting and then wait until you go to their inside area. It covers some different climate/ecosystems.
All in all a great little spot to visit.

Went at a transitional time of year, another month and the gardens would probably be blooming more. It is a very nice place. The Costa Rica glass house is beautiful, lots of butterflies. Talked with one staff member who was very helpful and friendly. I would recommend it for people who like plants!

Are there wheelchairs available to patrons attending the Botanic Garden
Written February 23, 2023
Do you pay one price for admission ? Or, are their separate admissions for each garden ?
Written February 12, 2020
There is one admission to all gardens.
Written March 14, 2020
Yes it is wheelchair accessible. There is an elevator so you can see the upper level of the Glasshouse (the butterfly gardens) the outside is all paved, and mostly in the shade. There is also a parking garage. Enjoy! I love it there, I have been a member for years.

Since dogs are no longer allowed at the Cleveland Botanical Garden, a trip to the Holden Arboretum is your best way to take a scenic walk through gardens with your dog.
Written September 4, 2018
Approximately how long does it take to get through the gardens/exhibits? We probably won’t be able to get there until after noon and I know they close at 5:00pm. Is four hours enough to see everything?
Written April 25, 2018
Plenty of time. The garden area inside and outside about 1 1/2 hours!
Written April 26, 2018
Just a thought, if you visit a lot of gardens, get a membership to a local one. They have reciprocal agreements so that you can visit any around the country for free.
Written May 2, 2017
Yes, there is a reciprocal program through the
American Horticultural Society.
It costs minimally $35 to become a member, but you are able to go to many beautiful gardens such as in the Cleveland area, such as the Holden Arboretum and Stan Hywet Hall and Arboretum. You also get admission to one of our favorite gardens in Columbus, Franklin Park Conservatory.

What's here in the winter? Do they stay open Year round?
Written April 24, 2017
Always check the website before you visit so that you know what to expect. The inside gardens are open year round and many times they have special shows happening, even during winter!
