Not much wildlife for being a state park.
Mar 2021
The park seemed small, and it was okay, just not one of my favorite state parks. We are on a journey to see all 88 state parks in Ohio. We saw 4 on this particular day, and it was our least favorite. That being said, it's still has beauty, and fishing and water so it's not all bad. Our favorite thing was their camping area w/outdoor movie theater. We didn't see any wildlife hardly while we were there. It could of been the gunshots from the nearby hunters scared them off.

Worst Campground Ever - Camp Hosts need to be fired
Jul 2020
We were looking forward to this 1st stop in Ohio. Campground seemed nice 'on paper/online'. Made a reservation but we didn't have our site number.

We stopped for directions on the way because a guy was standing on the corner outside his house. He was really nice & he told us that the gps will take you right across the lake, which is not possible, so we had to drive around. Not a big deal.

After a long day of driving we got to the campground & wanted to set up then relax. We arrived around 5pm so the office was closed. I think maybe it was temp closed due to covid. While parked at the office a guy pulled up in a golf cart w/ a young girl maybe 10 or 12 yo. Husband asked him if he was a camp host & could he help us find our site. He said he didn't have site numbers - even tho he was the camp host. Then he got out of the cart and walked over to the site directly next to the little office bldg. Another guy came over and asked what site we had. Husband told him we did not know.

The 2 guys (camp hosts) proceeded to make fun of us and give us a hard time because we did not know our site number. I wanted to look it up on my phone but it was dead, husbands was nearly dead - so we had no phone. Mine needed to be plugged in & we needed the generator for that - wasn't staying on -so no way for me to power up. I should have looked for a plug outside the office bldg but those 2 idiots were being so patronizing & nasty.

Decided to drive around the campground to see if our name was on a post like normal campgrounds. Nope - none of the sites were marked, except for a plastic permanent looking 'reserved' sign. I came back around to the 2 knuckhead jerks who were talking with husband. Got out of the van and confirmed that we had a reservation.

Jerk #2 looks me straight in the eye & says, What site?! Well, jerk off, if I knew that I wouldn't be talking to you - I did not say this out loud. Instead I said if we knew we would be there. He laughed in my face & made me furious. At that point I drove over to the parking area to see if I could charge my phone. Husband being of cooler head stayed with the 2 morons and got them to call the office that had the reservations. Jerk #2 started the conversation off with, this guy says he has a reservation but he doesn't know where. One second later we had our campsite number.

We drove to the campsite & found a full campfire pit. Maybe it was the camp host's job to see that debris is hauled away - like every other campground. Husband checked out the bathroom & it was filthy - shouldn't the campground host check on bathrooms & get someone to clean or clean themselves?? This was a Thursday - not a Saturday night.

I've camped at a lot of places, many state parks, private campgrounds, national parks, etc - this was by far the worst experience I've ever had.

Do Not Go here - if you can avoid it - do so. These 2 jerks are camping for free - I assum because they are camphost - didn't verify but I'm 99.9% sure. Not only are they supposed to help and be nice to campers - they aren't supposed to be aholes. Pretty sure of that as well.

Nice Small State Park with a beautiful lake.

Small well kept State Park with a nice lake. They have a boat launching ramp. The park has several picnic areas with restrooms. We seen families with children fishing and some dogs. Very family friendly.

Goose poop

If they could get some control on the goose poop it wouldn't be so bad. Trying to walk through geese poop all the time is annoying.

Truly A Gem

Nice small park with a lake. Good fishing, nice views, bbq grills and a very peaceful setting. We particularly enjoy the 5 mile trail that circles the lake which takes into the wooded area of the park as well as follows the shoreline. Perfect setting for viewing the fall colors.

Nice small park.
May 2018
Nice little park with older playground. Lots of Canadian Geese to watch/feed. There is a path to walk/run around the lake or you can rent paddle boats or canoe/row boats for recreation/fishing. There is a camp ground across the lake if you would like to stay a few days.

Peaceful park
Aug 2017 • Family
Small quiet park with a nice lake. It’s a great hiking trail for most people. It’s not too difficult. I love the walk across the dam to the other side of the lake. The kids loved sitting on the “big” rock. The small beach can only be accessed by boat or walking around the lake so it’s usually not crowded. Don’t forget to take some bread to feed the ducks. 😁

A weekend get away for two

Lately this state park has not met the criteria I would exspect from our state parks . No one quiets those who party thru the night. Barking dogs for hours on end because their owners left them.....it seems the camp host is in their camper or no where around and the store staff well is just store staff. They must be deaf to the loud yakking of dogs and party people....sad....also the state put in a restroom across from the tent campers, but it isn't functional yet...maybe next month when no one is camping in tents?????.one playground on the other end of the campground....why not something for those in tents who don't want to drive thru the other side to let their children play. We enjoyed this campground for its serenity but of coarse why worry when the state gets their money and doesn't care about the peace they potrey for their campers. State park managers wake up, people come to be away from problems and to get peace, oh what about a 10 mile speed limit...we watched as a child was nearly run down by two young men in a sports car....who cares right....they didn't think a child on the road could get hurt......don't forget to bring a step to put under your camper steps because most sites in most state parks have a four to five inch drop off from the narrow camper pads.
