About
The Wood County Museum is the site of the former County Infirmary, which operated from 1869-1971. The building was repurposed into a Museum, which re-opened in 1975. The Museum has public events throughout the year and the Museum is open daily with the feature exhibit "For Comfort & Convenience". This exhibit features documentary photography coupled with interpretive information about all 88 county poor farms in Ohio, up until the 1930s when public charity transitioned into the modern ideas of social work. This exhibit was made possible by the Ohio Arts Council and the Ohio Humanities. Photography by Jeffrey Hall. #WoodCountyMuseum

Very informative, friendly greeting! Great displays and very well done. I will visit again.

Thank you Mike and Kelli. We really enjoyed the museum and history you had on display.

And the great Harvest Host parking spot you had set up.

Very interesting, great history lesson and stories. The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. The rooms and displays are very impressive. We will be back and have already shared with others that they should visit.

We also stayed the night as Harvest Host members, perfect stay. Thank you all very much. We plan to come back.

This gem is history at the tip of your fingers. First the staff is amazing. They know the history of the home and area which is crucial. It's self guided but the displays are well labeled and informative. Don't forget to appreciate the architect of the home itself. It has up to 3 floors I believe. If you are here during Christmas, local decorators have the place in awesome decors; they have a schedule for events i.e opening night, Christmas caroling, tour each room to see the decor. If you are into "ghost" stories, you are likely to be fascinated by the stories of ghosts parading the halls and certain areas that are "freezing" for no reason (it used to be a mental institution back in a day and the "story" is that the ghosts are patients who died there). It's worth coming. Call for hours as they change depending on the season.

It’s a very interesting place with an unusual history. It’s well-managed and filled with unique items organized into the stories of the lives of the people who passed through the “poor farm.”

I found it fascinating 😆

A beautiful spot that any photographer will enjoy. The grounds offer numerous photo opportunities from the stone fence, a garden, a log cabin and a pretty porch. The museum itself is located in a lovely mansion and offers a variety of exhibits and history of NW Ohio.

Overall, this is a really cool museum. Walking around it allows you to get a really good idea of all the history. The museum has so many rooms and various exhibits as well. The jar of fingers was probably one of the creepiest things I have ever seen. This place is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area or just passing through.

This is a unique museum. The Wood Country museum was originally part of a nationwide network of homes for the needy. This was the Wood County Poor House. The poor could live here and work on a local farm to help subsidize the place. Also, there were opportunities for people to care for each other rather than just rely on professional staff. There are multiple outbuildings that are worth exploring.
The curator gave us a nice overview. In many rooms, there are videos that explain the times in which the poorhouses operated. It was highly educational.
