Having a personal tour guide for my 12 year old granddaughter and myself was very special. Shelley gave us a very thorough explanation of the different orders of the Amish along with stops at special informational points before our personal house tour. My granddaughter and I were able to visit with an Amish woman and 3 of her 10 children in their beautiful home. She answered our many questions with such grace and then her 16 year old daughter gave us a horse and buggy ride around their property.
We also visited an Amish basket maker with Shelley explaining how this order of the Amish lived.
I would highly recommend having Shelley and Amish Heartland tours help you navigate this beautiful part of our country!

Our family decided to try a meal in an Amish home last weekend. There were 12 of us and Shelley did an amazing job coordinating- she even asked what our favorite pies were! The meal was so filling and what an experience. For less than $10 more than a typical buffet we experienced an actual Amish home. I’d advise any groups coming to the area to check out this!

This was a really fascinating day in Amish Country. We went to the Yoder's Home and learned all about their heritage. The best part of our tour on this day, though, was a meal with an Amish family in their home. We walked into a very small, simple home with our little group to find very gracious hosts that were more than willing to share their stories with us.
The lights over the dining table were all gaslit as they have no electricity. Water for cooking and cleaning is pumped from a well in the yard. It’s seriously as simple as it gets… but, this is some of the best food we’ve had in our travels!
Our meal consisted of homemade bread, a salad made with ingredients from their garden, fried chicken, roast beef, mashed potatoes with brown butter, green beans from their garden, Amish noodles, and several choices of delicious pie! This is something you’ve just got to do while visiting this part of Ohio. It was a real treat!
I would do this again in a heartbeat.

Shelley was a referral from a trusted friend. Boy, was he right about the experience! She has a great personality and is very knowledgable about the Amish people. We visited with a basket weaver, buggy maker and went to an Amish auction/flea market. Don’t waste your time wandering around. Call Shelley. It just doesn’t get any better…

This tour was above and beyond awesome! Shelley was so easy to work with, punctual and so very knowledgeable! We were on a “Sisters Trip”, 7 sisters from all over the country, and we had a great time. The Amish families we visited were so friendly and answered so many questions we had. It was a very enjoyable day. Thanks, Shelley!

My aunt and I took a tour of the Amish Country with LaVonne DeBois and had a wonderful experience. It was loaded with lots of history and information that you would never know from books and movies about the Amish that you read or watch and as we found out sometimes false. She took us to see how Buggies we’re made and to two basket making places and we left feeling very informed and had a blast on the tour. She is very sweet and has a lovely personality. Can’t recommend this tour enough.
P.S. Tiny her dog is so cute and added a bonus to the tour.

My husband and I were visiting Amish country and we were very excited to take a tour with Amish Heartland Tours- the day of the tour, I became very ill and had to be taken to a nearby Hospital. I wasn't able to call the tour place since I was in the hospital-I called the next day and explained to the lady who answered the phone what had happened-according to her my card would have to be charged-(even though I wasn't told that when I made the reservations!), and I would have to pay the $70.00 even though I was at the Hospital, I asked if they could please make an exception since this was no fault of my own, I was told NO and we could go on a tour that day-I explained I wasn't able to even get out of the bed--so disappointed in them and their unwillingness to work with me or be compassionate on a situation that I couldn't help, and WILL NOT be reserving any future tours with them and I certainly will not recommend them!

Attention Trip Advisor Admin. As you will see, the reviewer never took our tour, so the review is not relevant to an experience on our tour, but her sudden illness that affected her plans. We are not insensitive to visitors that encounter situations beyond their control, but also have a business to conduct. My response to Jennifer is as follows.
Hello Jennifer ~ I trust you are feeling much better! Upon reading your review, I understand your frustration due to your unexpected illness. The review itself had no relevance to our tour.
Our records reflect the following facts ~
1. You, Jennifer, called our office on Sept. 22 for the 2 hour tour on the 23rd. You told Marsha you had no email but we confirmed the tour over the phone with where to meet at the Berlin Grande Hotel which was about 1 1/2 miles from where you were staying. You confirmed and held the tour with a credit card which we process the morning of the tour that is scheduled.
2. The tour guide called our office the day and time of your when you and your husband did not show at the designated time and place.
3. Marsha called your cell phone first, no answer and we left a message. We also called the Berlin Resorts where you shared with us you were staying so see if they were aware of your location or if you happened to be in the lobby.
4. Our tour guide waited 15 minutes in case you were running late and Marsha was willing to drive you to meet the tour guide who had to leave on the tour just in case you were late due to traffic. Then we called the Berlin Grande Hotel (departure location) to see if you had showed up late. We went above and beyond to accommodate you even in the unknown.
5. We still did not hear from you the day of the tour.
6. Yes, you did call and speak with me the following morning. (Sept. 24) I am the owner. I was kind and showed sensitivity to your unfortunate situation.
7. You said you became ill the night before and went to the hospital and shared your story.
You also stated, "I forgot to call and cancel and wanted a refund."
8. You sounded very well in the morning. After sharing your story, I offered that day the same 2 hour tour either at 12:30 or 3:00. I asked you if you were still in the area and would you be able to go on the tour. You said yes you were in the area for the day. You asked the person with you about taking the tour that day since I offered the same 2 hour tour that we had availability at 12:30 or 3:00. You asked the person twice. Then your answer was, we will pass, but still wanted a refund. Once I replied that we could not refund since you declined on my offer of the tour, you hung up on me.
As you can see from many other people who have truly experienced our tour, you would have loved our tour with all the excellent reviews. I am sorry your illness came during your visit and once again, we offered it to you and you refused to go.
The review does not reflect the visitors experience on our tour, but rather the frustration of not receiving a refund.

Is it possible to have a meal with a family who has teenagers? I have four daughters and I would love for them to have the opportunity to visit with Amish teens.
Written July 19, 2017
Yes! We do have a couple of homes with teens!
Written July 20, 2017
Are your tours suitable for people with walkers? And also are the houses where you can have the meals?
Written July 17, 2017
Thank you, Lynn! :)
There are a couple of Amish Homes where we have the Meals in Amish Homes where you enter and eat on the main level of the home. These homes would be more easily accessible for
walkers.
If you desire to take the 2.5 Hour Amish Backroads Tour, you will be able to exit the sight-seeing van 3 times, it you desire. Or, you can just stay seated.
