Just another part of North Dakota art meant to draw tourist. Must work, I stopped. Actually, I was going to Wahpeton to golf in 2 states on the same course, but I did deliberately stop at Jamestown to see the World's Largest Buffalo just a couple minutes off I-94.

Admittedly, it's tough to get a sense of the size of this sculpture based on the photos. But it's called by the locals the world's largest catfish at 40 feet long and 12 feet tall, and who are we to disagree? It's a big one.

The fish is on a man-made hill in Wahpeton, which is south of Fargo. The town and the fish are both on the banks of the Red River. This makes up the border between Minnesota and North Dakota for long stretches, flowing north into Lake Winnipeg and eventually heading for Hudson Bay.

One report on Roadsideamerica.com said when the river floods, it looks as if the catfish is swimming. But we're happy to report that the water level was at a safe level during our visit.

It's about 10 minutes off the Interstate, and located in the Kidder Recreation Area. Nearby is a fine-looking sign, welcoming people to Wahpeton when they cross the bridge from Minnesota.

Great place to stop and get a photo at the world'
s largest catfish! It is huge, but not real... or even real at one time. It's constructed and maintained well though.

Its a really big fish and a nice landmark - stop and take a picture as you pass through or go fishing, althou I think your catch will be much smaller.

Nice little area to camp, have a quick lunch, and even fish right along the red river. The camping area includes water and electicity and there is a nice restrooms with showers. They also have a nice fish cleaning station to clean your catch of the day. The Wahpper catfish is a good photo op but not something you're going to spend much time at.

This is another one of those attractions that are funny and fun to take a picture with. You know the story about Jonah and the Whale? Well this is the Red River version.

Had to detour off the highway about 10 miles but that wasn't so bad. It was located in a little park area. When we went it was the off season, so no one was there but in the summer it would probably be pretty packed. Bring your camera to take pics. Super short trip. This has been my least favorite world's largest figure. There were no informative signs to tell you details. This was the 3rd world's largest sculpture that I have seen in ND & it was disappointing compared to others. Not that big compared to the others, either.

I took my mom and my grand-nephew to Wahpeton to show them some of the fun stuff we could do for free. This was one of the places we stopped and it was a winner for both of them.

Stop by for a great photo op while you are in the area. Easy parking, and clean restrooms within the park. The river flowing through has a series of small rapids, so supplies pretty photo opportunities too.

This is situated on the North Dakota - MInnesota alongside the Red River of the North. It is visible from the Hiway 210 bypass that goes around the North side of Wahpeton. Good catfishing in the area in case you like fishing.
