A very nice town - easy to walk around and plenty to see .

Cafes are great , there are a number of pubs to see , but the best bet for a good pub meal is the Bridge Hotel at Langhorne Creek which is only a short drive away .

Museums , artwork , memorials , a great park , a swimming pool , great little caravan park , there is plenty to see and do and places to stay for a short break .

Lovely town !

Strathalbyn is a wonderful country town which makes a good stop-over between Adelaide and Goolwa, or equally, a day-destination from Adelaide. The town is really in two parts. The higher level, with the aptly named High Street, is famous for its many antique shops, which are quite exceptional. Then there is the lower level, next to the pretty Soldiers' Memorial Park with its beautiful river setting. There are several bakeries, a number of historic old buildings including an old flour mill and a well-preserved bank, and a fine Visitors' Centre and art gallery in the old railway station. The bank has a plaque commemorating the deposit of the first million pounds! A little out of town one finds the Catholic and Anglican churches. And between the two town levels stands the impressive St Andrew's Uniting Church. Unfortunately, we have never found this open ... . The Victoria Hotel provides a good meal in an interesting setting. A good place to visit.

Within easy driving distance of Adelaide,Victor Harbor and Murray Bridge,Hahndorf and Mt.Barker.Just a 15 to 20 minute drive to Langhorne Creek, an outstanding red wine area and MIlang..a pleasant town on the lake.

Strath( as it is called by the locals) is blessed with many old well kept buildings(heritage listed),a small river flowing through it's centre, that never runs dry, walks along the river on well formed dirt tracks, lined with trees,an excellent swimming pool situated by the splendid gardens and "Childrens Bridge" etc,

It is serviced by 4 pubs and several cafes and restaurants and a string of antique shops.

So for tourists/visitors,it is an ideal spot for a picnic lunch bbq.

I have visited this town many times in the past, with the last time being in 2018. I visited again for the 2023 Antique Fair and this town has completely lost its charm. What use to be a quaint, simple heritage town has turned into a mishmash of confused styles and utter bad design.
From the offensive contrasting pavement that clash with the heritage buildings, to the unkept weedy native grass gardens, this town now feels like every other generic Australian suburb.

Upon entering the town, instead of being greeted with beautiful large paddocks and hills filled with gum trees, you now get a first impression of uneven colourbond fencing, roofs. and backyards. The narrowing of the streets and street corners make it almost impossible to drive a motorhome around town and the lack of parking is laughable.

It's incredibly disappointing to see a town that is considered internationally as an antique and heritage destination become a complete waste of what could have been a special, unique destination.

Unfortunately, I will no longer be suggesting this place to others.

***WARNING to all: Driving a caravan or motorhome within the town is difficult with the narrowing of streets and street corners. I would avoid if possible.

*** The contrasting pavement on the footpath is wobbly and uneven, making it unsafe to walk on if you don't have strong footing or balance issues. Also, the small square stones used on the road are also uneven, observing a couple of elderly trip over these during the weekend. Hopefully these issues are addressed soon.

Drove around for 30 min looking for caravan parking- there is none so we left. Town looked lovely and we wanted to have lunch and go to motor museum but clearly not an RV friendly town. Disappointing

We stopped here for a quick coffee and ended up wandering around for a while.
Very nice main street but loved the large park with a beautiful rose garden and large trees with a church's steeples peeking over the top of the trees. Very scenic.

The main street of Strathalbyn is a hive of activity, with a variety of shops and antique stores. Always a pleasure to visit and once the renovations are completed in the Woolworths store, it will be even better for parking!

What a beautiful town to stay in. We always received excellent customer service. Always greeted with a smile. Pretty much 20 mins from major attractions. Would gladly stay in this beautiful town again.

Strathalbyn is a Town in two parts. There is the current town center, gardens shops, galleries, parks and playground.
There is also High Street, I think the original town center a couple of pubs, a range of cafes and quite a few antique shops. Also the Town Hall.
