I confess straight up to not knowing anything except the name Heysen before I visited here. I booked the guided tour and was glad that I did. For a few extra dollars, you not only see the grounds of the property where the family lived and the painting studios of Hans Heysen and his daughter Nora but the inside of the family home, a beautiful historic building in itself but also full of beautiful art and lots of backstories about the family and their famous visitors. With a wander around the grounds thrown in, you can easily spend a couple of hours here. Wear covered shoes if you plan to wander the grounds as it is a bush property and there are snakes in some areas.

I had been wanting to visit The Cedars for many years and was very excited after booking the full tour. The studios of both Hans and Nora are amazing to see and the house is also very special. Do yourself a favour if it's a nice day and do go for the walk around the farmland that form part of The Cedars. There are signs showing the way (could do with an update). The only downside was the number of people in the house. With Covid still around this was disappointing and it was impossible to social distance - 20 people squeezed into a bedroom was a bit of a joke.

The Cedars is a wonderful place to visit on a lovely summer's afternoon, which was exactly when we got to visit.
The visit begins in the guest shop, which is adjacent to Nora Heysen's studio, with several examples of her work on hand.
The guided tour of the main house and Hans Heysen's studio though was wonderful, a fantastic peek in his life and his family, his art and passions.
We really enjoyed the visit, and would recommend it for anyone interested in the famed artist, but even just to see how life in the Adelaide Hills was experienced from their perspective

Would highly recommend a visit to the Cedars. Volunteers on the guided tour gave us a really knowledgeable insight into the life and work of Hans Heysen. During an hour long tour we explored the gardens, the artists' studios as well as a portion of the house which is open to the public. Well worth a visit

A guided tour of Hans Heysen's studio, and the family home was so informative, due to the excellent guide, who gave us lots of background information. Seeing the original furniture in place, paintings on walls and fresh apples in a bowl added to the homely feel. Photos are allowed in the studio and gardens, but not the home. There are viewpoints around the garden showing where Hans painted some notable paintings, and the gardens themselves are very peaceful.

We were really impressed with out trip to the Cedars. The staff were really friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

It is well worth spending the time to take a guided tour through the house and studios and to also spend some time wondering around the wonderful garden. We took a picnic lunch and enjoyed the serenity and beautiful surrounds.

They also have a shop that you can purchase books and well priced prints.

A quick off the cuff (pre lunch) visit here meant we found we had missed the tour and therefor were not allowed on the main buildings.
However, our stroll around the gardens and ‘artists walk’ was a delight. The latter is worth doing as there are a series of podiums identifying Henson’s favourite painting spots with examples of his artwork.
We will return for the tour...

The Cedars was a great informative tour, (even for someone not really in to art).
The fabulous paintings by Hans Heyson and his daughter Nora are truly great, and the ability to visit his home, studio and gardens was a priviledge.
Tours at 11am & 2pm.

I had been here before but great to come back. The gardens are looking magnificent. The guided tour of the house and studio was great. Then lovely to wander the artists trail and grounds alone to absorb the place. Fascinating lives of both Hans and Nora Heysen. To see the original art works on site is truly a privilege and rare in the world.
