Great gallery showcasing local artists...prices are steep but the pieces are unique! Next to the Tourist info centre and there's a little museum attached at the side. The building is lovely with creaky floorboards!

We stopped in here as we worked our way down the main street of Hahndorf. We spent half an hour or so looking at the art working craft and reading about the history of the town and the academy. Definitely recommend visiting.

Located on the corner of Mt Barker Road and Balhannah Road in Hahndorf is the most impressive heritage building of the Hahndorf Academy, built in 1857, its an interesting place to visit. Not only does it house the Tourist Information Centre but an art gallery, musuem and store. The majority of our visit to the village was spent here, we thoroughly enjoyed the quality arts and crafts for sale in the store as well as the musuem, and all of this for free, it was very well done.

Enjoyed dropping into the Academy and Information Centre in Hahndorf. The art on display was beautiful and not overly pretentious of intellectual.

The centre had some good basic details about the history of Hahndorf and was a good place to start.

This place has a wide range of things to look at, from art work to the museum. It's well worth a look as your walking the Main Street.

As it was a quick stop with out group ( afternoon tea ) I left the group to go to the Hahndorf Academy. I only got a chance to see what was on the ground floor, I enjoyed seeing the arts and crafts especially the hand knits. Joannie was more then happy to explain things to you.I would have liked to spend more time and go upstairs and see what it had to offer.

The little museum in the Harndorf Academy was very interesting. Remnants of old buildings, old tools and household implements were on display as were old bibles and a huge prayer book. It was clear life was tough for the early German settlers, but it was equally clear they had a never-say-die attitude to their new life in a strange country.

Along side these was a power point presentation, beautifully taken photographs of ruined architecture, construction methods used in the early settlement, remnants of people's lives.

The art gallery was closed in preparation for a new exhibition, but the Information Centre was manned by volunteers each day. Some were clearly more knowledgeable and helpful for others.

It's a combination of museum, visitor info., art gallery and shop. Staff are very friendly, chatty & helpful. All parts of the Academy are informative and interesting but l did especially enjoy the well set up, attractive retail area full of tempting & original local artist / crafters creations...the best shop in Hahndorf. The exterior of the building is a great photo op.
