First time visiting this cellar door. We received a warm welcome. We were shown to our table which had lovely views over the vineyard. We chose the white flight and the mixed flight fir our tasting. Our hostess was friendly and very knowledgeable. We chose a white to take home with us. Disappointing that the wine tasting cost is not reduced upon the purchase of wine.

Dear Bceeingu, Thank you for visiting our cellar door.
As with many cellar doors across the country now, we no longer offer wine tasting as an option.
Instead, we offer a relaxed personable seated experience in which visitors can enjoy a wine flight or a glass of wine off our menu, while soaking up the vineyard views.
Each wine flight ($12 each) consists of three glasses of different wines, which in total equal a full restaurant serve glass of wine.
Like other hospitality venues, we do not reduce the cost of menu experiences off any take-home purchases.
I am happy to hear you enjoyed the views and your experience with us and purchased your favourite white wine to take home for future enjoyment.
Kind regards, Dee

I couldn't recommend this place more!
My partner and I enjoyed an hour long experience at Hahndorf Hill Winery early in January this year. Our server was very knowledgeable, and a very kind and easy to talk to lady who gave us proper insight into the plates we were enjoying. I had the milk chocolate experience, which was lovely, and her insight into how to properly use the palate cleanser Mt. Lofty water allowed me to really experience each chocolate and enjoy their different qualities, while my partner really enjoyed her beautiful mixed wine flight.
While the experience at the winery was amazing, their efforts didn't stop there! When we realised we had a flat tire upon leaving, Jack, one of the staff at the winery, pulled his car over and took time out of his day to help us change the tire. He was an incredible help and made our lives so much easier.
Thankyou to the brilliant staff at the winery for giving us such a lovely experience, and a special thanks to Jack for being so kind and helpful! We will definitely be back.

As lovers of drinking Grüner often in our overseas life, we’d been keen to get to HH to experience their Adelaide Hills offering. We had the white/Grüner flight plus an additional glass of the dessert wine, the Green Angel Late Harvest. The latter was a new experience for us (were we just blind over the years or is the Grüner variety as a dessert wine quite uncommon?) and it was a bit of a revelation! Amazingly good.
The reserve Grüner also had to be purchased.
We actually thought the cheese platter looked pretty lacklustre when it hit the table but each cheese was enjoyable and worked well enough with the wines. As a lover of ginger I was intrigued to see the ginger ‘syrup’ accompaniment. Interesting.
With the covid guidelines our experience felt a little awkward however (and our interaction with the server was equally as awkward and felt quite ‘staged’) but we of course just have to reset our understanding of what wine tasting is like for now (and maybe a long time).
I don’t think there is any reason why the front annex has to feel so blank and bleak though. Not sure if it is normally like this? It was like walking into a clinical surgery. The room should feel more inviting just as those gorgeous gruners are. Lovely wine.

Dear LisaMDL, thank you for visiting our cellar door.
Gruner Veltliner is such a beautiful food friendly Austrian varietal - I am so glad you were able to come and try the four different styles we produce. The Green Angel late-harvest Gruner Veltliner is pretty special. We agree!
We look forward to hosting you on your next visit to the beautiful Adelaide Hills.

Unique chocolate/cheese/wine tasting experience in Hahndorf
We went to try something different to just tasting wine. We went this winery as they advertised a chocolate or cheese AND wine flight options.
We tried both the mixed wine and white flights ( 3 different types of wine with each glass 1/3 full) with a lovely cheese platter. We were particularly impressed with the Gru Gruner Veltliner 2020.
The restaurant overlooks beautiful rolling hills and the service is first class. The staff are very knowledgeable about the wines, and we were very impressed with Dee who has worked there for over 15 years.
If you are looking for friendly service, award winning wines and a decent variety of tastes, you won't be disappointed.

Great winery with lovely views. We had the chocolate and wine tasting (tried the white wine flight and dark chocolate Flight). Excellent chocolates and wines, would have liked to have the discount with purchase as well.

Dear swishmishS,
It is lovely to hear that you indulged in our gourmet chocolate and wine experience, and I am delighted you enjoyed the products we served.
The ChocoVino menu items include a full restaurant serve of wine, with gourmet chocolate sourced from top chocolate houses and a bottle of palate cleansing water.
Purchasing wine is an option offered to all customers, but we do not reduce the cost of menu experiences off any take-home purchases.
Kind regards,
Dee, Cellar Door Manager

Had a lovely chocovino experience. Really enjoyed it. I booked it as first day of husbands retirement so wanted some special. Greeting was lovely and warmly welcomed into balcony area. Very relaxing and enjoyable. Everything was explained thoroughly and not rushed at all. Memorable experience. Enjoyed chatting with our server who was knowledgeable. Thank you.

My husband & I came to taste this winery's red wine(Specifically).
In spite of a number of their (red) wines on the tasting list being sold out, leaving only x2 for us to try - of which we only wanted a shared taste of x1, we were still charged $5 tasting fee.... for 1/2 a mouthful of wine!! (Which we didn't even swallow!!)
The friendly lady behind the counter became quite cold & crisp & condescending when my husband questioned her about this.....
Make sure you taste the list from beginning to end - Avid wine drinkers & fans lost for $5!!

Dear SheThorn,
As the co-owner of Hahndorf Hill Winery, I wish to address your review and comments.
In line with all other cellar doors in the Hahndorf area, our cellar door does indeed charge for tastings, and our $5 charge per person is one of the cheapest tasting charges and is also fully redeemable on any wine purchased to take home. The charge applies whether you taste only our white wines or our red wines or our whole range on offer.
Yes, the amount of wine poured to you and your husband was small because you chose to share between two people what is designed for one. And yes, our female staff member unfortunately did drop her smile, only because she felt threatened and confronted by your husband’s anger and resentment at having to pay $2.50 each to taste our wines.
No cellar door wants to provide its visitors with an unhappy experience, so this is my suggestion. The next time you visit a cellar door where tasting charges apply, rather than become embittered about having to pay the charge, simply walk out the door, get back into your car and drive off to the nearest cellar door that can offer you a free tasting. The wonderful thing about wine tasting in South Australia is that there is a beautiful cellar door around every corner to fit every kind of customer.
Best wishes, Marc Dobson

Are dogs allowed outside while humans consume a meal?
Dee W
Hahndorf, Australia
Good morning, thank you for your question regarding dogs being allowed outside while you are inside visiting our cellar door. We have changed our offering, now focusing on our core product which is the wine - offering wine flights with cheese and wine flights with gourmet chocolate with our ChocoVino experience.
We do not have a lunch menu.
There is a entrance to the back of the cellar door at which you can tie your dog up safely while you are inside and we can certainly put some water out for them.
They would have customers passing directly past them if this is not an issue for you.
It is not too far from where you would be seated so you can regularly check on them for your piece of mind.
Any further questions, please feel free to call the cellar door on (08) 8388 7512.
Kind regards, Dee, Cellar Door Manager, HHW

For Christine,
Hi there, we were there today and had a lovely time. We have 6 bottles of wine being shipped but I forgot to get their names. Can you help? One was Blueblood and 1 was the desert wine.
Thank you so much Christine, we look forward to coming back this October😀
Good morning David, I will ensure Christine contacts you later today to answer your question.
Kind regards

Do they serve meals at Sunday lunch?
Good afternoon Susanne09, I apologise for not replying sooner. I did not realise that Trip Advisor has also added questions to their offerings.
Yes we do offer platter lunches, a savoury, seafood & a vegetarian option. You can see the choices on our website under the Cellar Door tab - Platter Menu
We also offer cheese, wine flights, coffee and cake along with our ChocoVino - gourmet chocolate and wine matching experiences. The ChocoVino includes Purely Chocolate menu items as well.
Our kitchen is open from 10am-4pm - 7 days a week excluding public holidays. We take our last booking at 4pm as we close at 5pm so that you are not rushed.
Bookings are preferred - especially on weekends to avoid disappointment for 8 guests or less. (08) 8388 7512
While we do not offer food for larger groups due to the restricted size of our kitchen, we do have 5 different Group Tasting Program options which also can be found on our website under the Cellar Door tab - Group tastings.
It was nice to read the comments and information from others that answered your question. I hope that you did indeed visit our cellar door on the Sunday in question and enjoyed your time with us and we look forward to hosting you again soon.
Kind regards
