The barrage is one of my favourite places to visit in Goolwa. It is easily reached by car, and has easy level access on arrival. There is ample car parking and well kept gardens to welcome the visitor. The barrage crosses the Murray mouth, inhibiting the flow of water to the sea. It is a haven for water birds: this visit we enjoyed a heron, pelicans, black swans and terns amongst others. I walked half way across to the lock in time to see a small tourist boat pass through. It is quite safe, and there are toilet facilities. It makes an interesting family visit.

So good I went twice! A lovely walk from the car park to the Barrage itself past info boards about the Murray River and its locks. If you’ve travelled parts of the Murray, you should enjoy this trip down memory lane. You can walk out to the barrage lock. Plenty of black swans on the water and seals around the lock that were amusing to watch. Combine your FREE visit yo the Goolwa barrage with a cruise into the Coorong. Fabulous!

It is amazing to see that all the barrage gates have been removed for the first time since it was built. Great place for a walk. Can be windy . Lots of wildlife including a few seals and sea lions that have seemed to have made the barrage home! the last time I was there you could walk across the barrage - unfortunately this time around that wasn't possible. I could spend hours just watching the boats go through the lock and the antics of the seals.

Love this hidden gem of Goolwa! Peaceful place to enjoy wildlife. Well maintained gardens. Lots of benches provided along the walkway. Toilet facilities are well kept. Easy, free parking. We stayed for hours watching the seals, pelicans & other birds.🦅 🦭

What an amazing experience and totally free to boot! We got to see the amazing wild seals up close as they were sunning themselves on the railings below us and floating around in the water. Also some beautiful pelicans and swans. Loved it.

A lovely drive along the Goolwa waterways towards the Barrages. Lots of bird life. Nice walk along the barrages and you may see a boat going through to the ocean side. There is a nice grassed picnic area with facilities and an Information area about the construction and history of the Goolwa Barrages. Well worth the trip to see.

The barrage is well worth a visit. Walk out along the barrage to the lock near the middle. You're rewarded (if you're lucky) with boats passing through the lock, seals sunning themselves, pelicans feeding on fish passing through the fish ladder and swallows nesting. A quiet peaceful and free spot to visit as well. Recommended.

Do yourself a favour and park your car further back towards town and walk out to the barrage, (if fit enough) a pleasant walk. Out at the barrage there were seals, pelicans, and other bird life. Can be a tad windy out there so take some covering.

Well worth the walk. To our surprise we spotted 3 sealions sunning themselves on the wooden piers. The walk out to the barrage is well signed with info on the different locks.

The Goolwa Barrage is well worth a visit for its construction alone. Its so interesting watching the boats negotiate the lock and even fur seals can be seen in the area, which for families with children is a great experience for them.
