We went here to walk around the lake so the loud commentary coming from the boat was bit of an intrusion so if you were choosing between Lakes Barrine and Eacham I would choose Eacham (which is also shorter 3km vs 5 km) I was surprised of how little time was spent right by the lake, you mostly only got... There is a very short walk from the parking lot to see 2 rare bull kauris trees. They are over 45m tall and 6m in girth. These trees are relatives of the pine trees from the time of the dinosaurs. We got to pretty Lake Barrine too late to eat at the teahouse but these trees were worth the trip.... More

The walking track next to the lake was very impressive. We saw different plants (nasty& nice), heard different birds sing (whip birds, cat birds), and we also swing on a big old vine. Amazing trip thanks to our guide Paul.

Mum and I visited mid afternoon. Small but beautiful gardens surround a teahouse where they serve scones, jam and cream. The lake is large and there is a boat that does yours around the lake (we didn't have time to do this). There are a number of walks around the lake and we went on one that took as up... More

We did the 5k walk around the lake and it was lovely with a lot of boardwalks to make it really easy. The kauri trees were amazing. We had cake and coffee in the tea house and it was really delicious. The tea house has kept its old world charm but was very neat and well kept. The surrounding gardens... More

Right in the middle of a dense forest is this volcanic crater lake. It is quite large and you can take a boat cruise on the lake if you want. There is also a lovely tea house cafe there with lovely gardens so certainly worth a stop to look around.

Wonderful location with lots of history, lovely food and views, relaxing cruises or a nice 7km ish walk with amazing kairi pines to view. Also a great place to bring your kayaks and see some wildlife including amethyst pythons

Great scenery that takes your breath away. You need to know where it is - it is easy to miss. Lake Barrine is one of the marvels and so unexpected in the middle of the railforest

This crator lake is beautiful! The twin Kauri trees are a short walk from the bus parking area. Simply amazing size of these trees. One can take a cruise on the lake or simply sit at the edge and take it all in!
