Lovely morning at the gardens and aviary with friends
Beautiful gardens and aviary. I have a few suggestions for improvements: Lapel microphone for aviary guide. Signs in each aviary with pictures and names of birds - not sure if this is possible given that the birds may damage them but there may be a way to do it. Signs next to various plants naming them. The gardens are well maintained and the staff very friendly.
Hi Frances Thank you for visiting us. Fantastic feedback thank you. There is a project underway for the botanical name signage and we'll definitely investigate your other suggestions as well. Cheers MBG Team

What a great experience! The birds are funny with their sayings and actions. The guide was amazing, knowing each bird by name and showing each ones special talent. I learnt a great deal and enjoyed the tour immensely. I plan on a return visit soon.

Well, what can you say if you are into Birds, Views, food? This attraction has it all. Great selection of Australian and exotic birds in an enclosed walk through aviary. Accompanied by Very knowledgeable guides who are very people person friendly. No question is a “dumb” one. We ordered our lunch online, and it was plentiful, very fresh, very tasty and reasonably priced. Well worth leaving your packed lunch at home! WE decided not to hire a buggy and explore the 100 acres on foot. Not a good idea unless you are in training for a marathon!

Great collection of birds and brilliant views.
At the time we attended a number of areas were under reconstruction and some areas in need of tidying up. This however did not distract us from the beauty of the gardens, and the exceptional views from the gardens of the Sunshine Coast. The staff were very informative and accommodating while conducting the tour of the aviaries. The birds were incredible. You would have to like the close contact with the variety of birds to fully enjoy it. The cafe has a good assortment of light meals and drinks.
Hi Brian Thank you for visiting, we’re glad you enjoyed it. We’re excited for the projects in progress at the moment. We hope you can return to see the completed soon. Cheers MBG Team

    Lovely couple of hours
Visited Maleny Botanic Gardens & Bird World last week. The Aviary tour was great and we enjoyed it very much. Our guide was informative and made sure everyone had a chance to get photos with the birds. The gardens are a little disappointing with not much to see at the moment as some areas are quite untidy with a lot of work in progress. Otherwise the grounds are lovely with great views and scenery. I'm sure the upgrading will be beautiful upon completion.
Hi TraceyJ899 Thank you for visiting us. We’re glad you enjoyed the aviary tour. We have a number of garden projects happening at the moment across the 18 acres and we’re excited to see them completed. We hope you’re able to return to see them. Cheers MBG Team

    Great value for money
We chose the seniors’ package which was great value for money. The buggies are a must for the steep roads but the views are incredible. The aviary was amazing too. We had the devonshire teas in the rotunda and admired the views of the Glasshouse Mountains.

    Nice day out
Staff were friendly. The birds interacted with everyone. The grounds were really nice with views. Spacious and nice to walk around. Ate a really nice lunch from the cafe. Food and coffee were great and I'm a very fussy eater. Highly recommend visiting here.

We visited with a family that has never seen colorful birds up close. They were so excited to not only see the parrots and McCaw's but to have them sit on their head and shoulders was so amazing. We also loved the miniature donkeys and rabbits in the petting animal nursery. But for me it was the amazing gardens and the view to the coast. Well worth a visit.

    Amazing Place to Visit
What a beautiful place to hang out and stroll through the gardens, interact with the many birds and animals. Public/School holidays are incredibly busy but it's still worth it. Note; it is hilly and may not suit those with physical ailments or disabilities. Those I saw there, coped ok and of course, you can always hire a cart to get you around the site. Entirely worth it!

Birds and Buggies! What more could you want!
We had an absolute blast at Maleny Botanic Gardens & Bird World! Our tickets included access to both the gardens and the bird world so we booked in a time to see the birds and then zoomed around the gardens in our golf buggy (Which I recommend 100% worth it, pay the extra to rent the buggy!) We then got to see and feed the cheeky farm animals, stopped for some lunch with stunning views then it was time for Bird World which was the highlight for sure! We toured in the different bird enclosures learning from the lovely tour guide, all the while having the beautiful and cheeky birds jump on your shoulders and head and make you laugh! Go have a fun day, we sure did!

A family Christmas present for a Devonshire Tea brought us to Maleny Botanic Gardens & Bird World. When booking the Devonshire Tea we were advised it could only be booked for a midday sitting which seemed rather odd. On arrival at 11.30 am staff advised we could have the Devonshire tea whenever it suited ourselves. An excellent cup of coffee with two big scones and cream was enjoyed overlooking the Glasshouse Mountains. As locals, views of the Glasshouse mountains is pretty common to us but visitors can easily access the same views from the side of several road side vantage points in the Maleny area. The gardens can be explored along many pathways some of which can be a bit steep for anyone with walking difficulties. Drought conditions have detracted from the normal luxuriant growth of the native rainforest species. There is a range of tropical, subtropical, temperate and desert plant species established in what appears to be an ad hoc planting system. Motorised buggies can be hired to enable anyone with walking difficulties to access the gardens. A large walk in bird aviary was very popular with visitors but expensive. Access from two car parks to the reception shop area required walking up a steepish road. Visitors could drive their cars to designated picnic areas overlooking the Glasshouse Mountains.

We were welcomed at the entrance by talkative parrots, which put a positive start to the day. Gardens were pretty but would be better if plants were labelled so you knew the name of plants you were looking at. We didn't find the map they gave us very helpful with finding our way around the garden. Perhaps more signage around the gardens would be helpful. The experience of having parrots on your arm/shoulder near the entrance and within the aviary was fun. The aviary guide was very knowledgeable and spoke up very loud so everyone could hear, although there were less than 15 guests on our tour. They should use a microphone when there are more visitors given they can cater for 40 visitors per tour. I don't think I would have enjoyed the aviary tour if there had been more than 15 visitors. Food on offer at the cafe was very limited; only one savoury option of toasted ham, cheese and tomato sandwich. We were there on a weekday and told they don't serve hot chips on weekdays. I had the Devonshire tea, which came with two large scones; it was fresh, delicious and filling. It is worth paying for two scones because you save only $1 if you choose only one scone. Coffee could be served a lot hotter. The entrance ticket that we were given, which needed to be presented for the aviary tour and for free movement in and out of the complex, was flimsy like fax paper and small like a business card. I was so worried I would lose it; would have been better if printed onto cardboard. Overall, it was a good day out but questionable as to whether it was worth the three hour drive we had from Hervey Bay.

If you are thinking about attending this DON"T. If you are driving past keep driving. After recently visit to the gardens and bird aviary. While the location has a stunning view and the gardens have plants that about this place has going for it. The Chinese garden has two statues to make it a Chinese garden the local bunnings are more Chinese gardens than this place. none of the cascading water features that are displayed on the website and broachers were turned on, so if you are in the habit of wondering past ponds of still sludge-filled holes of water than maybe this place is for you. The open tree house??? you climb to the top of the stairs to find what looks like the hobbits living quarters (great view for the veranda) and that's the highlight. oh you can hire a golf cart to get you around the gardens for an extra $$$$ and there are roads for the golf cart and they share the common walking paths so hold onto your kids as there seems to no rules apply, this looks like fun but after spending all the $ to take ourself there we, unfortunately, could not afford one. Ok now for the good part, you are shuffled into the bird aviary in large groups and hurled like cows from cage to cage for a whole 40mins you are moved at such a pace that if you were there to look at the birds that it would be my suggestion that you do it from the outside and save your $$$ and drive into Montville and have an Ice Cream with the kids.

Not a day out that I would recommend to anyone.

This was actually the 3rd time my partner and I visited Bird World in the space of a few months and we've thoroughly enjoyed it every single time. There is a lovely cafe where you can have a coffee and some food before/after the tour, as well as a few birds who hang out nearby so you can get to know them. The aviary tour and the guide are very engaging- you can really get to know all the birds and their personalities. If you're worried about getting bitten or otherwise hurt, the guides give very clear instructions about how to avoid this and to be honest, without provocation all the birds are surprisingly gentle and so curious! Would highly recommend as a place to visit while you're on the Sunshine Coast and/or Brisbane for something a bit different :)

The birds are awesome, and the gardens are pretty good too. The guides in the bird aviary are friendly and helpful, I recommend the feather duster even if you don't mind birds landing on you, it helps get rid of pesky birds when you're ready to move on or stops them scratching / biting if they happen to. The gardens are vast and incredible with heaps of hidden gems to find. It's worth the walk down (and back up) the massive hill to see the waterfall and the ancient rock. You can hire a golf buggy to get you around which is quite a popular option but walking means you can follow all the paths and find all the hidden places you can't see from the road. Definitely worth the trip and the price of admission. The only downside for me was the cafe which we attended at the end of our trip. The service was a bit slow as they were short-staffed in the kitchen, there isn't heaps of room to sit down for your food as they have no cafe space but three rotundas with tables and chairs, it was quite busy on the day and at the time that we were eating so it was a longish wait for food. The food was good when we got it though.

This is a must do experience if you love getting up close to beautiful birds. The one hour aviary tour guides were knowledgeable but the highlight was having those beautiful Macaws fly down & land on us. There are 3 different connecting aviaries & there is plenty of time spent in each to learn about the birds in that aviary & give the birds time to fly down & make themselves comfortable sitting on your shoulders. If you missed out on having a bird land on you the guides were able to transfer some of the friendlier birds onto anyone who had missed out. Lots of interesting birds & great photo opportunities on the tour but if you don’t have time to do the tour you can still get your photo taken with a few of the birds outside the cafe. The food served at the cafe was simple but delicious. I liked that there were plenty of tables spread out between 3-4 rotundas spaced out around the grounds all with great views of the Glass House Mountains. There is also buggy hire available to view the gardens if walking is an issue.
The aviary tour is great value worth the day trip from Brisbane probably worthwhile to book ahead so you don’t miss out on the aviary tour.

My family can't get enough of Maleny Botanic Gardens & Bird World. We come for the spectacular aviary tour but love the gardens. It was raining when we were there this time but we set up our picnic in one of the many gazebos and with the view of the low clouds across the mountains this rainy weather setting was actually our favourite visit ever. Can I just also mention the breadth of knowledge by the staff (particularly the aviary tours) is incredible. Our tour guide knew every bird and their behaviour intimately and was able to encourage appropriate birds to visit each person. My daughter was a little daunted with the big birds at first so the guide was able to encourage a little parrot to visit her so that she eased into it. My other daughter just wanted all the macaws to come to her (and was rewarded with all the macaws!) . Will be getting an annual pass as we visit so often.

If you love birds then you will love going into the bird avery. I had the best time in there and lots of the birds are super friendly. Some are cheeky and mischievous but they have great character. The full hour is cut short due the safety briefing and the time wasted to get people in and out so you only really spend 50 mins in there. I also felt like they let too many people go in at once so it was over crowded.

Surprisingly engaging and interactive for an aviary. When my husband suggested we go I thought we would enjoy some green time in the botanic gardens and see a few of the birds we have seen before in an aviary. Em was our host and brings a walk through to life with her engagement with the various birds that have been hand raised and trained. Never ever have I had such a close experience with so many big birds. I have been to zoos and sanctuaries all over the world and this is most definitely the most enjoyable bird experience. The staff are helpful and accommodating.

Coffee and food is delicious, a little slower than the city folk are use to so order after you have visited your time slot unless you have 30mins or more to wait. We found the staff were flexible in placing our order later when we all realised the time and order length of time.

Thank you for the 4 star rating and excellent review. We're so glad your family enjoyed your tour with Em, she'll be so pleased to hear your kind words. You're absolutely right, it is a very unique and enjoyable experience for all ages and is much more interactive than many other places. Thank you for your understanding with the wait time. We get extremely busy during school holidays and there can be some waiting. We do try our hardest to get everyone's food and drinks out in time for a tour but yes, we do recommend waiting until your tour is finished to enjoy your meal. Thanks again Sarah and we hope to see you again.

This place is very popular and it is a good idea to book online so that you can get the tour time that suits you. The bird tours last around an hour and they have a great variety of birds with the most fabulous colors. As you are in the birds space they choose who they will land on and if you are not keen on wearing a bird they do provide feather dusters to dissuade them from using you as a perch.
