Whereas some parts of the Atherton Tablelands are very crowded with tourists, this park seems rather more relaxed. Furthermore, the forest is absolutely gorgeous here. There are vines, ferns, elks and exotic tropical trees everywhere. A very attractive walk leads you through the cool rainforest to a volcanic tube, now filled with water, and the Dinner Falls, a lovely, clear cascade. An hour is enough to do a leisurely tour of both.

We turned off the main road without really knowing what to expect. What we found was excellent. The crater is amazing, the forest makes for a nice walk, and the waterfalls were excellent - one of the pools (the one with the concrete path) is our favourite on the tablelands for a swim.
QLD parks people do an excellent job maintaining the carpark and info area.

Nice and peaceful setting. The falls and the crater are an easy walk from the car park. I didn’t see any Cassowary whilst there, would have been good to see one in the wild.

A lovely easy walk to the crater. Make sure that you take some pebbles to throw in to hear the sound when they landed. Then continue on the track along past the falls. Very, very pretty. A lovely afternoon drive.

Only a relatively short walk and you will see the Crater which is crazily deep. Unlike any other crater lake or rim you might see, the drop is around 80m. Make sure to walk back via the falls, which you can swim at as well

One of the highlights of our trip! From the carpark it is a fairly short walk to the Crater itself. The walk branches into a "high" path to the Crater and a "low" path to the Dinner Falls. The Crater path is a fairly easy walk but the Dinner Falls path is a little rougher so may be an issue if you have limited mobility.
The crater is impressive and has quite an eerie, spooky feel to it. I'm so glad I'd read previous reviews recommending that we stopped early on the path to collect a rock to take to the Crater lookout with us. There are absolutely no rocks to be found close to the Crater itself and the kids loved throwing a rock into the stillness and watching the effect. Make sure you collect a decent sized rock - as close as you can get to palm size would be great.
We were also incredibly lucky and saw a tree kangaroo. I understand that this was a pretty rare occurrence but they are there so keep an eye out if you are visiting.

Mount Hypipamee is an awesome little national park site with lots to see and do.
The walking tracks are well maintained with the walk to the crater fully sealed and the walk to the waterfalls a medium grade.
The site is also home to a huge array of animals. We were lucky enough to see a Cassowary almost as soon as we arrived near the carpark area and then while undertaking the walk to the waterfalls we also saw many more birds of all shapes and sizes.
We also spotlighted the site in the evening and saw all three types of ringtails as well as coppery brushtails and tree kangaroos.
Overall I would highly recommend this site to everyone, its perfect for a bush walk, for checking out the waterfalls and crater or for birdwatching and mammal spotting.
Add it to your list of places to visit in the tablelands!

Great exercise for viewing the waterfalls so if you have problems walking this may not be suitable. Definitely a great photograph location.

A VERY popular tourist destination and for good reason.
To avoid crowded paths etc and to have a better chance of a Cassowary encounter, try to visit early or late in the day.

Fascinating, amazing what nature can do. So many wonderful things to see in our own back yard. This one is not to be missed if you are in the area.
