Worth visiting, especially if you go by car and have enough time to hike the Kuranda loop (~3 hrs). The skyrail only gives you a few hours, just for a lunch and a stroll. The village is a commercial enterprise, a shopping-eating destination for daily visitors from Cairns; hippies are mostly gone, with a few notable exceptions. When tourists arrive in the late morning the shops open and the place feels normal; after the last train (3:30 PM) it becomes a ghost town. The las bus out is at 4:10 PM, after that - nothing. Lots of birds, look for the australasian figbird.

We used the Skyrail to get up to Kuranda and the markets. This is a spectacular trip. Do get off at the two stops to looks at the canopy in detail.
We did not use the free Ranger tours. But the Audio did work a bit. So it is worth downloading the app as you wait for your Cable Car. If you are going to go the the "Old" Markets ensure you allow all day. We didnt even get time to see the Koala or Butterfly reserves at Kuranda.

We took the Kuranda cable car up to the village and then the train down. Having walked the rainforest it was really interesting to sail above it and we thoroughly enjoyed the view. There were 2 stops on the way up and we saw not just beautiful scenery and waterfalls but also snakes, spiders, birds and butterflies. On the way back we took the train, it's was very hot and humid and take quite a long time so if I did it again I'd probably take the cable car both ways.

It was actually quite interesting to go by train one way and the sky rail the next it gave you two very different aspects it. Sky Rail gives you the opportunity of getting off at a couple of stops to have a look around but we thought we were going to be late for our pick up so we didn't take advantage of it which was a bit of a shame

I wasn't thrilled about the prices for the tram and railway, so we just decided to drive and I'm glad we did. For one thing, I only wanted to spend a half day here to have time to visit other places. It is a winding road but in very good shape. The markets are very enjoyable, especially the original markets down the hill (not the cheap souvenir part). Stopped at Barron falls and had a picnic lunch and enjoyed walking through the rainforest. A very enjoyable day where we didn't have to spend a lot of money to enjoy a lot (more to spend on the handcrafted goods in the market). We split the day with a visit to crystal cascades, which I also highly recommend.

We planned a trip to Kuranda Original Rainforest markets, drove a hour from Port Douglas only to find 2 markets that were filled with tourist junk predominately made in china.
The coffee shops and food outlets all shut down at around 2:30pm to 3:00pm as they figured that after the tourist buses left there was no business.
We had expectations of local crafts and arts and were greeted by tourist junk souvenirs and no where to get a drink on a very hot and humid day.

A great way to appreciate this national park is on the Sky Rail as you glide over the treetop canopy.

The Kuranda tropical rainforest is much smaller than the Daintree but very pretty. You can still get the experience of a real rainforest without having to dry far from Cairns. The Kuranda town is also very interesting.

Beautiful rainforests that climb over the hills and valleys only to be further enhanced by the breathtaking beauty of barron falls. Worth the visit

We drove ourselves to the SkyRail Rainforest Cableway and booked the cable up and train back. The cost included a coach pick up from the train to where we parked our car at the cableway.

From the start the experience was great.

The cableway was clean and felt safe; gliding over the tree-tops and providing great views of the forest below.

There are two stops at the Red and Blue peak stations where there are short walkways allowing you to experience the rainforest first hand.

On arrival at Kuranda village there is an opportunity to walk the village, do some shopping, have a drink etc.

We arrived at the station for the return trip and was again impressed. The station had a 30s feel about it and was well kept.

The train was old and well maintained, blending into the theme. The journey was great with a good commentary explaining the history and sights.

On arrival they coach took us back to the cableway.

This is a great experience and well worth the money
