On these magical tours, Aboriginal Elder, Willie Gordon, takes guests to his ancestral rock art, high in the hills above Cooktown. Here he shares the meanings behind the art, explaining how the paintings speak of the essence of life and the lores of his people. With his great smile and infectious laugh, Willie gives an amazing insight into Aboriginal society and shows how we all have a spiritual connection to land, wherever we come from.

We traveled with two families and organized a visit to the land of the Nugal-warra people. Elder Willie Gordon was a very inspiring man who was able to capture the attention of all 8 individuals (4 adult and 4 childeren) with his knowledge and passion about the culture, spirituality and the land where his ancestors have been living. From teaching... More

Our Outback Aussie Tour group met with Willie Gordon and spent two hours engrossed with his walk and talk. Willie is very personable and able to put across some of his culture in the short time we had very admirably. His wit and demonstrations kept us enthralled till we had to depart. A great part of our tour, and thanks... More

Willie spent the day showing us the beauty of the country and rock art that was mesmerizing. Fantastic walk through the bush highlighting the attributes of traditional plants and describing their uses. Couldn't have asked for a more informative interactive tour!!!

We took a morning tour. Willie picked us up at our motel on time in an aged but acceptable minibus for a half-hour drive to the site for our walk. Willie kept up a flow of chat about the area and about his own indigenous heritage. Before the walk he gave us bottles of cold water and a carrier, a... More

Wonderful walking tour learning about plants, animals and people, especially ourselves. Real exercise for the mind - still thinking about it the day after. If only Martin Heidegger had taken this tour! Art and life, truth and being. It's all in this tour.

I was dragged along in this tour with token interest. A former police officer, I had some....preconceptions about a cultural experience of this nature. My wife was keen and I thought it would be educational for my 6 year old son. So off we went. It was educational for him but tremendously more so for me. Willie has a great... More

Most reviewers have said it all. It is our second tour with Willie - the first being some 10 years ago. It was a privilege to again hear Willie's inspirational stories and feel his love for his country. His tour is a "must do" for all those who are interested in aboriginal culture, reconciliation and issues facing aboriginal people today... More

No-one should visit Cooktown (and everyone should, at least once in their life) without experiencing Willie Gordon's tour into his family land. Willie's narrative is personal and heart-felt. It is also highly informative as Willie blends stories of the various sites with his knowledge of bush craft and traditional use of what the land provides. Fascinating stuff. We went well... More

Willie Gordon's Rainbow Serpent Rock Art Tour is fascinating. The depth of knowledge he imparts about the Tropical North Queensland aboriginal life and philosophy is impressive. In his stories, which he tells at the various rock art locations on the site using the art to convey his messages, he reflects on a number of themes, including spirituality and education, without...
