On these magical tours, Aboriginal Elder, Willie Gordon, takes guests to his ancestral rock art, high in the hills above Cooktown. Here he shares the meanings behind the art, explaining how the paintings speak of the essence of life and the lores of his people. With his great smile and infectious laugh, Willie gives an amazing insight into Aboriginal society and shows how we all have a spiritual connection to land, wherever we come from.

As a white Australian with a pretty middle-class upbringing and lifestyle, I learnt more about our indigenous history and culture in four hours with Willie than I have in 48 years. He was great with the kids and older people alike. A must-do on any FNQ itinerary

I have been fortunate, over the last 3 years, to have taken 4 of Willie's tours. On every occasion I have learnt new and inspiring facts and information that has lead me to a greater and more knowledgeable understanding of his personal family and culture. His wisdom always makes one think a little more deeply about oneself and to reflect... More

Spending over four hours in the company of Willy Gordon is worth the price in itself. He is passionate about his cultural roots (which, you will learn, are a bit broader than just indigenous Australian) but understanding rather than condemnatory of the reasons for the difficulties that his family has endured. Reconciliation and acceptance are recurring themes of the stories... More

We went with Willie Gordon on his Rainbow Serpent Rock Art tour and it was just excellent. His eloquent and natural teaching style was really appreciated. We walked about 4 kilometres over hill and dale...none of which was too difficult. We looked at various landmarks, interesting vegetation and flowers and insects, and went to remarkable cave locations. We saw many... More

I was excited when whilst researching our visit to Cooktown I discovered Guurribi tours with Willie Gordon. His half day tour, ( which stretched longer,) into his country, rock paintings, Aboriginal culture etc was just what I was looking for. From the moment we met Willie we were entranced by him, such a lovely man, sharing his life history, his... More

Willie is a great ambassador for his people; a wonderful educator with a terrific sense of humour. The tour was diverse and informative, Willie knows a lot about his country and he pointed out so much information from plants to where an echidna had been scratching for food as well as paintings and culture. To be invited to share in... More

My husband and I went on this tour with Aboriginal Australian tour leader/owner Willie Gordon on April 5, 2016. The tour was one that I had been looking forward to for months, feeling that it would be a most enriching experience, and it was. Firstly, about Willie Gordon...What a warm, lovely man he is! From the time that he picked... More

We went to Cooktown specifically to do this tour. It was a very good decision. It was a great experience. Willie is a great guide and was particularly good with our children (8&7). The tour is rather low key and subtle no hype here just lots of good stories that relate directly to the environment you are experiencing. Great insight... More

WIllie Gordon is an amazing man. He connects us to our own deepest roots through his own family ancestral stories and the morning walk through his sacred landscape. It is an easy walk with stops for sharing his knowledge of nature and telling stories of his people through the ancient rock art depicting birth, life and death. It is an... More
