- Maria M2 contributionsSweet wine but sour servicePassing Clouds Winery provides stunning scenery with pleasant wines. Disappointingly our experience was soured by the poor quality service. Given that we purchased 9 tastings and 6 bottles of wine, we felt rushed and unwelcome and were asked to leave our table as soon as the last drop of wine from the tasting was consumed. The lady who took us through our tasting was very brief and rushed away before we could even discuss or ask any questions regarding the wines. Numerous agist comments made towards members of our party, left us feeling uncomfortable and disgruntled. We sadly would not recommend a revisit.Visited April 2023Written May 1, 2023

We were on the covered verandah, and it was just like a private party. The food, wine & staff were fantastic. Our special occasion could not have been more perfect. - Roch22 contributionsNice winery with interesting wines.A nice winery with some less common (in Australia) grape varietals. Dining room looked nice, but wasn’t open when I visited. The staff were happy to spend time taking about the winery during the tasting.Visited August 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten August 23, 2023

Amateurish setup giving Australian wine a bad reputation. $10 for a thimble of five third rate wines, all served in same glass. No slop bucket and no water to cleanse palate unless you ask and pay for it. Sales staff know little about wine.

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at passing clouds. Set 3 course menu at $75 a head plus if you want wines to match extra $45 per head. Plenty of food beautifully presented and good matched wines. Shared dishes all cooked over charcoal. Would recommend for a lovely leisurely lunch.

We really enjoyed our "Feed Me" experience. The staff were very friendly and able to accomodate my food allergy. The menu included a generous charcuterie board, delicious chicken with two side salads and 2 desserts (chocolate mousse and caramel poached pear). We opted to share a bottle of wine which was $60 for the Estate Shiraz. I'd recommend this to friends.

We popped into Passing Clouds but didn't fancy a formal wine tasting session so instead we bought a bottle of wine to enjoy. Unfortunately, the staff were insistent that if we weren't tasting the wine we could only sit outside as they 'might' get someone who wanted a tasting. However, the options available to us were either sitting on the ground in full sun (which we flagged) or on a bench next to the carpark which wasn't quite the afternoon drinking spot we had in mind. We checked and double checked but for some strange reason the staff wouldn't let us cross the threshold, so we sat outside on our own - without any of the ambience we were expecting from the winery. It was a real shame as the wine was delicious but the service in this instance considering we were still paying customers was pretty poor. I wonder if we'd been an older couple what the service would've been like...

A lovely spot to take an overseas visitor to Melbourne. A cellar door tasting first, then the Monday special which was perfect for lunch - beautiful chicken beautifully cooked on the grill, accompanied by a delicious glass of wine and followed by a nicely chosen cheese. Not too much food in lovely surroundings. The countryside looked beautiful after the rain. An abundance of blue and yellow wildflowers in green grass by the roadsides - in March! My English friend said it was the only part of Australia he’d seen where he’d consider living - and he’s been all over!

Disappointing wine tasting experience.
Would have thought a set menu of four wines to taste could have been provided with fresh glasses, or at least a water jug to rinse your glass between wines.
Also, I was not impressed as a female accompanied by a male, to have the male served the wine first each time.
Atmosphere also lacking which is a shame as is an attractive location.
Needs improvement!

We stopped by hoping for lunch and a glass of wine on the way back to Melbourne. We found the dining room closed and a group just leaving. Being hungry, we almost left. But, we were a bit curious about wine from this area, and the gentleman behind the counter just seemed genuinely nice.
We’re very glad we stayed. We tasted every wine available, and every one was solid. Some feature characteristics of their varietal (eg fruit), some focus on the land (terrier). We learned a bit of backstory about each one from Bern as he poured them. Tanya, who works in the vineyard, happened to stop by and share a bit about the history as well.
We left with wine and memories.
…as for lunch, Bern pointed us to the Cosmopolitan in Trentham, but that’s a different review.

A group of 5 women, celebrating a 60th. Beautiful location and the food fabulous. Charcuterie platter followed by chicken and pork cooked over charcoal and desserts to share. Great wines and Mervette was an amazing host for the day.
