It looked very much that Daylesford town itself was a historical centre for Victoria and at large for Australia with many of the old buildings still standing well and in a state of being actively functioning as of today, showing off their olden day glory. Many of the buildings to our opinion had a strong resemblance to the buildings in French quarter of New Orleans (Louisiana state, USA)) where the long balconies like galleries that were platforms were projecting from the main walls of the buildings, supported by columns, pillars or posts. These galleries were consisting of protective barriers made of wrought iron or cast-iron decorative balusters, posts and grills at their outer perimeter.

The “Town hall” and the “Museum” buildings too had very attractive design. Daylesford town itself was a living museum for those who admire architecture of the past. We were disappointed that we were little too late to get admission to the museum as they were closed by the time we arrived. However, we still admired the old building and an item displayed outside which was a beautiful vintage scale.

The museum is a great place of you want to know more about Daylesford and District's History, and the lives of people who lived there in the past. It has a very interesting history, with some significant changes over the years.

If you have a specific interest in Daylesford, such as a famiiy connection, or a particular property, or an aspect of life there in the past such as mining, or involvment of locals in World War 1, the museum is a wealth of information. They have fantastic resources and the volunteer workers here are knowledgeable and will go out of their way to find things for you.

I ran out of time to see everything properly and look forward to revisiting again on another trip to Daylesford, however what I did see including photos that added to family tree research was wonderful. Very helpful and friendly staff who went out of their way to offer assistance and a number of very interesting collections including lots of local history to view.

We hadn't visited our local Museum for some time and were amazed to see how much better it is looking these days. We went for a Pop-up Art Exhibition and had a chance to admire new chairs, paintwork & cleanliness. It seems our Museum is very loved at present, courtesy of some wonderful volunteers. Don't miss reading about Daylesford's gold-mining history and seeing artifacts galore.

If you want to see an Australian time capsule you won’t be disappointed with this venue!
The secretary welcomed us on arrival.
From the true Australian outback stories, including bush ranging accounts to one of Australia’s most iconic landmark buildings is a fascinating insight to what a slice of this country is made of. Plan to spend some hours there with Ian’s enthralling you with heaps of information. Time well spent! ( surprise yourself and learn a lot of and including some unknown Australia culture and history).

Many more items than most similar country historical museums in Victoria. Well organised into sections. Your enjoyment of it would depend to some extent on which volunteer you encountered on the day and their knowledge and willingness to engage.

With Daylesford today all coffee, massage and spa therapy, one may not know that life in the town was once a good deal less comfy. This museum, occupying the old technical school building, is the place to be educated. There are sufficient photos of muddy old goldmines and austere-looking old councillors; old machinery and various bits and pieces from the days of yore to keep you browsing for a good hour or more. And, there are fascinating artefacts from the Dja Dja Wurrung, from a time before there even was a Daylesford.
