Clean but disappointing

We tried this pool several weeks running on Saturday mornings. It's advertised as being the time for families to come and swim and splash about but in reality you will be glared at by the swimming teachers that are using the pool to give swimming lessons to young children. After 3 weeks of being made to feel like we were not welcome, we stopped going. A few months later we went back, specifically for their Saturday afternoon "Active Splash Inflatable" session. Described by their website as "Ultimate Fun on an inflatable". What an absolute SHAMBLES! The huge inflatable thing runs down the centre of the pool about 3/4 of the total length of the pool. We assumed that the kids would be able to climb and bounce all over this thing, dive off of it into the water and swim around it etc. No. Not at all. What you actually have is 25 children shivering in line, standing at the edge of the pool waiting to go on the inflatable TWO AT A TIME. Once on, the children are helped to climb through the various holes and ramps by a pool supervisor until they reach the other end where they get off. If that doesn't sound like fun, it's because it isn't. To make matters even worse, the water around the inflatable has to be kept clear. This means that nobody is allowed in the pool for 3/4 of the pool's length. Literally, you are not allowed in the swimming pool you are only allowed to travel the length of the pool by walking/crawling along the inflatable while supervised, two at a time. WHAT IS THE POINT!?! If you want to get wet at this swimming pool then you are allowed to go into the water for the final (shallow, 3 feet deep) 1/4 of the pool, which of course has a hundred people squeezed into it as it is the only water available to use in the entire pool. We stayed dry, got our clothes back on and left straight away. Whoever thought it would be a good idea to set up an inflatable assault course for children in a swimming pool where they are not allowed in the water needs to be dismissed. It's pointless and makes no sense. We will never return. Image below is from their website. It shows the old inflatable which was only 1/2 the length of the pool, before they increased it to 3/4 of the length of pool.

Great classes.
Feb 2018 • Family
We think the centre is very good!! Competitive on memberships prices/great mix of classes/something for all the family/good mix of equipment in the gym.
I do the spin/pump/Vive classes and love them! Great fun. Nice mix of people and NO judgement.
Only small downside is the online system has a lot of glitches and my teens would like to use the gym in the evenings with Mum & Dad being with them. Other than that, we are happy.

Incompetently run
Oct 2016 • Solo
For years they rented out badminton courts, one of which wasn't even full-size. The admin staff don't know anything, and they don't care. They're rude, and they're over-sensitive to criticism. I've arrived to find classes cancelled with no notification. They can't guarantee you a place on a regular class however many years you've been a loyal customer there. If you can find an alternative, give them a wide miss. If there's no alternative the teachers are good and the facilities mostly acceptable. Their computer systems are painfully slow and obviously hard for the staff to use. It takes absolutely ages to get even the simplest transaction completed. Arrive early, or simply don't pay - nobody notices and nobody cares.

Swimming with baby
Aug 2016 • Family
We have been here a few times with our baby to use the kids pool. Always clean and water has always been a good temperature. Changing rooms, lockers and toilets always clean and tidy. We go in the week when it's not too busy. Reasonable price to swim and babies are free. The kids pool will often have a closed sign on if no one is using it which can be confusing, but you just need to ask a life guard to open it as there has to be one there at all times. Can't comment on gym as not used.

Well... the instructors are good.
Jul 2015 • Friends
I've come to the King's Centre for many years now and have usually had a consistent experience with the leisure centre.

I've found that the sports equipment is rarely replaced. The mats that are used for lots of different things are falling apart with foam falling out.
It's also taken my Trampolining instructor well over five years to get the rig moved. In the end they only moved it when she needed it moved due to pregnancy.
The lifeguards often seem to be there just to socialise and often just stand around chatting, leaving things to the last minute.
The play equipment in the sports hall has also been the same for well over 10 years. I remember using it as a child.

However, the instructors seem to know their activities and are excellent at teaching it. The quality of the leisure centre has picked up since it was taken over by Places For People and they seem to be making some improvements, but for now I'll be giving a poor rating. (But I may increase it to a better one in the future)

Was good but gone down hill a little
Aug 2014 • Family
My kids love going swimming here... it used to have a reasonable cafe (for a none coffee shop) but that hd really gone down hill on our last 2 visits.
It won't stop as going as the kids like to swim there.
