I feel I must write to follow up on a truly shambolic early evening we spent in the Empress restaurant.

The lack of training was apparent from the start with a lack of knowledge of wines available, to the nature of the items on the menu .. is there no pre- service briefing?
After being served my glass of wine , my wife waited 15 minutes for her cranberry juice as someone had to go downstairs for it .

Whilst ordering our food, I specifically enquired whether the duck breast would be served pink as is generally the trade standard.. “oh yes ! Of course “ came the reply.

On requesting some bread rolls , they appeared quickly.. but were stale ! Who knows how many days old they were ..

It took another 15 minutes for fresh ones to arrive.. why wasn’t there freshly baked bread ready for service? There was only 20 or so dining ? Meanwhile at least twice the young waiter kept wanting to take my starter plate away and twice I told him I needed some bread to go with it .

When the main courses arrived, I could tell straight away my duck was over cooked , no effort had gone into scoring the duck breast and making the skin crispy. If your going to put such items on the menu , you should employ suitably qualified chefs to execute the job properly. After cutting into the duck it was clearly overcooked and had been kept in a food warmer.

My wife’s salmon again , overcooked and because of this, dry , even with the sauce poured over it , which my wife had requested to be served separately in any case .

If all this wasn’t enough, the lady working in the tote betting , clearly wasn’t up to the job .. I’d placed bets with her for first two races and she’d placed them all on the first race .. so my winning forecast in 2nd race wasn’t paid out .. then AGAIN she cost me money in 3rd race not reversing my forecast! Yes .. of course you will always say check your tickets, but that’s normally with confusion over the trap numbers, not the correct race !

In addition to this the lady working the tote was sitting at a table , not wearing a face mask , why was she allowed to do this ? Her supervisor was in attendance, why didn’t he ask her to put her mask on ?

All in all , this was a disastrous experience at your venue. We’d traveled an hour to get to you , had heard Towcester greyhound track was a premier place , presumably this must just be for its racing though, on last nights experience?

We have all been waiting to go out and getting back to some sort of normality, but clearly you have re opened too soon , there was no evidence of training or leadership in either the dining room, kitchen or indeed on the tote .

Towcester Winterland
Dec 2019
A group of seven of us went here on Sunday, 4 adults and 3 children. How disappointing, our first cost was £5 for parking, only a few stalls for the Bavarian market, the cost for the rides was averaging around £3 - £4 each which you have to load up a tappet card with money and they charge you £1 to activate, if you don't spend it all they do not refund. The rides will not take cash! The ice skating rink was great although expensive the Mermaid Cove very amateurish although they did get the children up to participate which was fun. The indoor play area is charged at £7 per child and £2 per adult what a rip off, the adults spend money in the cafe any way! This place is just money grabbing, avoid at all cost unless you are rich.

Please don't waste your money attending this! The promises on the website don't live up to what is actually there. There are only a few food and drink stalls. The Bavarian market consisted of 7 stalls and the only undercover section was at the small bar, so no shelter if it's raining. I can't comment on the ice rink as it wasn't there yet. If you have young children it might be worth a visit for the rides but for adults a definite no!

Racecourse closed by greedy owner
Dec 2018
One of the best racecourses in the country, now closed down.
Greedy owner refused to sell or lease to many interested parties to resume racing.
Only presume lining up for housing.

Dog racing at it's best !!
Nov 2017 • Solo
I understand there's commercial issues with the company and that they've recently gone into receivership, although it's still open to dog racing.
An evening with the dogs is great fun, dining, drinking and betting.........all the traits of a pure UK resident :)
I'd suggest that you go as a small party, say 6 to 8ish to max out the fun element. The service and food are really good and whilst dining the wine flows (at a cost of course) and one can bet on each dog race to increase the entertainment value. All-in-all, an excellent night out.

Work night out in the VIP Box
Aug 2018 • Business
The company i work for decided to have our summer work night out here at the racecourse. We enquired into having a VIP box with a buffet style food. When we arrived we were greeted by a lady on the ground floor who welcomed us to the racecourse and ushered us to the our VIP Box No2.

Throughout the night the staff on the top floor were very attentive with our own waitress (who i cant remember her name) could always see when our drinks were running low so she always made sure there were rinks readily available without asking.

This waitress and the ever so attentive Ben Gibbs who was the duty manager that night (Friday 03rd Aug) made the whole night enjoyable. As a collective our company would like to thank Ben and the girls on the top floor.

Paloma Faith Concert
Aug 2018 • Friends
Had a wonderful time at the recent Paloma Faith concert. I went with my partner and his Mum and we had a great time despite the rain! I thought the atmosphere was fantastic and the racecourse was very well organised. Parking and leaving the venue afterwards was easy and efficient. Plenty of toilets available. Met some lovely people in the crowd too! I would certainly come again and will be looking out for similar events in future. Thank you for a brilliant show!

Paloma Faith Concert
Jul 2018 • Couples
Great venue with lots of security & staff. Plenty of nice clean toilets.
The only disappointment was the charge of £10 for parking, £5 for a rain poncho, The drinks were expensive at £11 for a half bottle of Bulgarian wine wich was discusting. £5 can of warm San Miguel, £32 for bottle of prosecco. The food was a rip off and not very nice. We have been to race meetings and it's been reasonably priced.
Paloma Faith was fantastic.
