5 days of bliss!

Don't let the bad reviews put you off! Me, my boyfriend and the dog stayed in Chestnut VIP (12b) for 4 nights last week. Despite the constant rain we absolutely loved the week and didn't want to leave. The hottub was the highlight, so warm and clean with daily maintenance. The living area, bedroom and bathroom were well presented and clean. My boyfriend loved the shower, with jets and a radio! There are loads of lakes withing 2 mins walk which the dog loved walking round. We use WiFi so much and was worried we would be bored, but definitely not the case. We prepared with many DVDs and board games which we barely used!! We visited thirsk on the first day which was around 7-10 minutes drive. We had a meal at the Golden Fleece which was gorgeous and dog friendly. We also visited Eden camp which was around 1.5 hours away, but worth the drive.

The only disappointments we had was that the kitchen was quite small, and the micro oven was hard to figure out with no manual to assist. All the cutlery and pans were clearly not cleaned properly, but we would have cleaned them before we used them anyway! (Take some dish soap, the one provided is tiny and not very good). We also found that the bed was very hard and could have used with one more pillow, but we got used to it after the first night.

Having the dog was fine, however the fence round the bad had a big opening, so he couldn't come out in the garden without the lead on.

All in all, it was a great trip, the good definitely outweighed the bad and we are already looking to book again with the family!

Me and my boyfriend decided to book here for his 22nd birthday, when we first arrived around 3:30pm we were told our lodge key was not back yet so we were told to try again in a bit, we then arrived back at 4:15 and were told our key was still not ready even though check in was at 4 we then had to stay around for another 15minutes until we got our key. We then got inside the lodge and noticed that it was poorly cleaned and there were multiple problems we were very disappointed as it was apparently rated 5 star when I would struggle to give it over one star. Also there was 0 service inside the lodge which was very irritating as you had to go outside and stand on the decking if you wanted to call anyone( and also no WiFi). The shower was mouldy and rusty and looked like it had not been cleaned also there was dust everywhere and cobwebs , a broken lamp, broken bedside table and broken wardrobe, the kitchen was also not very clean and the cooking trays where filthy and the glasses where worn out we were overall very disappointed with this trip as it ruined his birthday and we actually left a day early as we couldn’t stand it anymore.

Was really worried after reading all the reviews about staying at woodland lodges we had booked a chestnut VIP lodge for our 1st wedding anniversary. yes the lodges are alittle run down n maybe the carpet was thread bare. But overall the lodge 2a we stayed in was clean n cosy and the hot tub was perfect 😊

Run down and dirty
Aug 2018 • Family
I have been to the lodges 3 times and know they are dated. This time we stopped and the beds were clean but the rest of the lodge was dirty. It needs to be closed for a couple of weeks and all the lodges cleaned and the maintenance jobs completed for each lodge. These are not cheap lodges we paid £694 for the weekend. The fridge had mould at the back of the trays (I hate to think how much bacteria and germs were built up in it). The sofa bed was snapped. The cooker tripped the electric. This is not a high standard lodge as I would expect for the money that we paid.

Beautiful, immaculate, friendly place

Stayed here from Friday to Monday. Had Lodge no53 Alder Executive VIP Waterside. What an amazing place. The place is immaculate. So peaceful. Hot tubs well maintained. The balcony was overlooking a lake with plenty of ducks and geese for the little ones to feed. We were even greeted by a black swan. Spacious lodge, ideal for a family of 4. Very friendly helpful staff both at the front desk and around the site. There is a small children’s play park and several fishing lakes. Beautiful Pub with a beer garden and a huge Koi Carp Pond, the Bar staff are very welcoming. Dog friendly too. We were provided with dressing gowns, slippers and towels. A pint of milk and loaf of bread also left for us on arrival. A welcome pack included washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, bin bags, cloth and scourer. Very useful if you forget to bring these! We had an ensuite bath/shower and there was a separate bathroom with a shower. Kitchen is spacious with a dining table. Tv and DVD player in the living room with a tv in the double bedroom. Very near to Thirsk Racecourse and Train Station with the town a short drive away.

I have visited Woodland Lakes 4 times now and this will sadly be my last.
The first 3 times were very enjoyable as we usually stayed for 3 nights averaging a cost between £170-£200, this time on our fourth visit we decided to stay for 4 nights Monday to Friday but still only cost me £200 so £50 a night.
On arrival my fiancée and myself were greeted as usual and were very much looking forward to our midweek break.
We got our keys and headed to out Chestnut Lodge (Number W11a).
We were looking forward to staying in this lodge as we had stayed in this one on our very first visit which we enjoyed thoroughly.
So we opened the door to our lodge to see the familiar layout which in fairness is looking tired as the sofa is looking worn and the showers don't work 100% but we knew this as we had been in this lodge in 2016 (thought they may have updated some things but never mind).
We looked passed the dated décor and focussed on what we were there for, the hot tub.
Our first night we got into the tub and spoke for hours until we noticed that the water was in fact starting to get very cold, we put this down to us being in it a bit longer than we should have and got out.
Although I did notice a code on the hot tubs control display reading FLC, I was going to bring this us with the receptionists the next day but as the maintenance team check the hot tubs every day I noticed him switch off the hot tub at the supply and repower it this then got rid of the error code, I thought to myself maybe they should've checked it a bit more thorough but I'm not a hot tub repair guy.
So on night two we got into the hot tub and within a couple of hours this FLC code displayed again and the temperature began to drop, so we called it a early night and I would speak with the maintenance guy the next day.
So early that morning I sat researching for the Hot Tubs manual and found that the FLC code is actually to do with a pressure issue to do with the water flowing through the heater, I did read that is said usually switching it off and on can rectify the issue but if it persists you then need to look further into the problem.
So I contacted reception who advised they'd have maintenance come around in a couple of hours.
This was not acceptable as I knew if they came whilst I was out they would just switch the hot tub off and on again and not look at the filter area and checked that the water was actually going through the system as it is supposed too.
So the maintenance guy reluctantly came within 20 minutes and proceeded to tell me no its fine and turned it off and on.
I told him that there was no way I was willing to accept this as a solution to our problem as it had already cut two of our nights in the hot tub short.
He advised that if I wasn't happy I could use next doors hot tub which was free as the couple who were in there had to leave early.
So I stated ok I'll use the hot tub next door but I want the keys so we can move all our items into that lodge rather than us having to walk over the grass each time we wanted to use the hot tub.
It took an hour or so but they agreed to move us.
So began our final two nights in a different lodge, I'll admit this hot tub functioned correctly but the whole hassle of having to move and the first couple nights being spoiled had definitely put a downer on the midweek break, but we continued trying to have fun and enjoy our last two nights,
So once we had been in the hot tub of this new lodge we stumbled back to bed and noticed that it had to be the loudest bed known to man, we dealt with this and I took a look at it in the morning to discover that the bed was near falling apart, the headboard legs had broken away and were hanging on via the screws that were still attached so we had to make sure to be very careful and not have any fun in this bed.
So 4 nights of a relaxing midweek break definitely did not live up to previous expectations.
It is a shame that this happened as I do enjoy Thirsk, I know there is not a lot to do around the area but the piece and quiet is what we went for.
Sadly our April visit will definitely be our last.

Lovely place
Jun 2018 • Friends
Stayed in the fir tree lodge vip . Lovely and clean. Just couldn't fault anything . We visited for a fishing trip . There are 13 lakes but be aware they are run by a separate company . Day tickets are £11 and fishing is 7 am till 9pm . There is a website for the lakes but note it's not been updated since 2015 .
There is a 50 pound deposit for the lodge incase the hot tub gets damaged . Because we were am all male party we were asked for 50 pounds each but we were given it back on checkout as we were all sensible . We will definately be returning .
Please note the watermill bar near by is a bit pricey £4.95 a pint . We got a taxi to Wetherspoons in thirsk and the same beer was £2.25 a pint .
