About
Twiggy's is a 4000 square foot indoor play centre in Thirsk, based on the wonderful Yorkshire Countryside. Nestling in the shadows of our own White Horse, the centre provides a safe and secure environment in which children under 10 can run off excess energy and have great fun.

Dangerous and does not meet safety standards.
Oct 2021
Frankly, this place is dangerous. British Standards BS EN 1176-10:2008 and BS 8409:2009 are very clear in the guidelines and most of them are not able to be met in this facility. My wife and I removed our children immediately after a near miss (one minute after entering) and would not recommend this facility for a safe play experience.

Importantly the separation of age groups is not enforced or managed by the (very few) staff ( have to say the young girl did her best and was very pleasant and apologetic, the same cannot be said for the site owner), and the maximum permissible heights are not clearly displayed at the entrance to the play frame area, leading to carnage within the play spaces. When approached, the owner of the facility (also an API member!) had the audacity to say he couldn't enforce anything and that it wasn't their job to do either!

The play area reception (not always manned) does not give a clear view of the play area and contravenes safety standards.

Staff were contained in the back of the facility in the small catering area, and had NO VISIBILITY of the play area, this is very dangerous as staff have NO CONTROL of thier own facility if they cannot monitor what is going on.

First aid fire fighting appliances are obstructed by mountains of cleaning gear and COSHH (substances hazardous to health).

COSHH is not stored in appropriate lockers and children can easily access dangerous chemical products abandoned under the stairwell along with cleaning machinery and other 'junk'.

The child user capacity of the Play Frame is not clearly identified (In accordance with Table 1 of EN1176-10:2008, (and the total permitted number also appears to be grossly exaggerated once you have found it) leading to overcrowding and which is what resulted in our childs' near miss, from a hoard of boisterous boys who landed on her head after jumping from an access at the top of the slide (again in contravention of the guidelines) and the children also looked to be way over the 10 year age limit - (again not enforced).

None of the (3 in total) staff were asking parents to keep the floor spaces clear, there is insufficient storage spaces (BS 804:2009 applies) for shoes and coats, hence the floor being literally covered in shoes and detritus, and there were a number of trips (in the short time I was there) from children exiting the slide, falling over abandoned shoes and coats left on access routes back into the play area, which again was not clearly defined (RoSPA assessments would have clearly identified this had they been conducted properly or at all). Again, the fact the floor was littered everywhere with shoes and coats around the cramped tables and chairs obstructed all of the fire exits too (BS 5395 and BSEN 1125 apply).

I could go on, but the arrogant owner of the facility who was very rude needs to conduct a thorough risk assessment and make changes otherwise his insurance will be VOID if your child has an accident, and you as a customer will therefore not be protected and will be unable to recoup any medical expanses as a result.

For someone who was in our centre for less than twenty minutes you certainly have done a comprehensive report. Firstly the frame and centre has just recently passed a safety inspection carried out by the Play Inspection Company. With NO issues. You came in to our centre and used what my member of staff considered an abusive refence to a car that in your opinion was parked in one of the disabled parking bays wrongly. There were other free bays in the car park You were for obvious reasons asked if you were ok to sit on the balcony area to which you had no objection. You called a member of staff off the frame to complain. This member of staff was walking around the frame doing their regular checks when you having only been in the centre for 10 minutes say there were none on the floor. So your comments about staff not being in the centre area are untrue. Also the whole centre is monitored by CCTV as is reception which is also a closed access space that needs a double button press to exit. The door is alarmed and we only go when someone enters. The under stairs area you are talking about contains no fire fighting equipment or COSSH and all appliances and fire routes were clear at all times. We also, if you didn't notice have large roller doors at the front and the front fire door had a clear access route to it. The rear door was clear checked prior to the balcony being opened and is alarmed. The complete play area and run from the bottom of the slide is a clear route with floor markings. The bottom of the slide has a 1 m yellow zone area that is clear at all times. Each of the areas is clearly signed as per what ages it is applicable to and as is on the notices around the centre all activities and children should be parental supervised. You aggressively approach me telling me I was 'Breaking The Law' by not manning the entrances to the frame when I tried to explain that wasn't a requirement you then accused me of not having the correct capacity notices. As you will have seen in the entrance we clearly state the capacity and I am surprised with your levels of observation you didn't see that the Main Frame was 125 children, the under 3s was 25 children and the baby area 6. What you would also have noticed is that my centre only has 69 chairs of which there was only 50 seats, therefore the capacity of the frame will never be exceeded and the guidance to have this is aimed at centres with a larger building capacity than frame. Your assumption of 3 members of staff was wrong as there were 4 on duty during the 20 minutes you were in the centre with a 5th who came shortly after. This gave a ratio maximum ratio of 1 member of staff for 13 Customers then 1 member of staff for 10 Customers. The space around the tables is over 1m and is still as per the COVID guidance with no more than 4 people at anyone table. The tables are larger than those in the majority of food places as well. You were aggressive and arrogant from the moment you entered the centre and in the 20 minutes you were in you were in contact with a staff member for at least 10 of those minutes and your accusation that there were no staff is a fabrication as you called a member of staff off the frame who was walking round the frame checking if everything was ok. With regards to your interactions to myself, you opened up with a hostile accusation saying your daughter had been knocked over twice and I was doing nothing about it, to which I tried to say that it was parental supervision and if you had let me finish instead of announcing that you owned a Softplay Centre and knew all the rules, I would have said that if you could show us the children we could speak to the parents. You were promptly refunded your money and didn't allow me to even ask if you would like to be seated downstairs. You are making some serious accusations here and I would request you email me info@twiggysplay.com so we can discuss how this will go forward. You have also made the accusation that our centre does not have a ROSPA inspection, I would suggest you need to get your facts correct. As you are a Indoor Play Operator I would say that this is purely bad blood and that you came to the centre looking to pick fault in the 20 minutes you were in the centre.

Very clean, fab roller door
Jul 2021 • Family
I was amazed at the cleanliness of this soft play! Immaculate! Love the fact it has a big roller door that was open as well, made it feel really light and airy, kids had a fab time, it's a good price and lots to suit all ages. I took 4 kids aged 10 months, 4, 8 and 9 and they were all entertained for a good couple of hours.
Very impressed!

5* super clean, fresh food and lovely staff
Jul 2021 • Family
First time we’d ever been and we’ll definitely be back….very clean, lovely welcome from the staff who were super helpful .. we were wearing sliders and there is,quite rightly, a no bare feet, no footwear rule in the baby section but you can buy a pair of socks from reception for something like £1.50 so no drama if like us you didn’t realise… the food was cooked fresh for the children and really nice and the unit has massive front doors which open , loads of outdoor seating and car parking

Great facility and staff; caters for food intolerances and energetic children
Jul 2021 • Family
Such a great facility. It’s clean, safe and well run but for us most importantly it’s one of the few places where I know my child who is gluten intolerant can have snacks and a meal. So many places don’t cater for food allergies in children. The facility itself is such fun, and huge for the children who beg to go back every week. We find the small team of staff friendly and my children enjoy interacting with them too. Definitely pleased it’s open again!

Great soft play- lovely staff
Jul 2021 • Family
We stopped by Twiggy's as a break for the kids on a long drive back up to Scotland. It was excellent. The soft play was great and the kids loved it, and the staff were very friendly and chatty and made us feel very welcome. We'll definitely be back.

Grand kids favourite place to expend some energy, throw them selves around and enjoy 'mad time'. Plus for adults, the coffee is good.

Wet morning play
Jan 2020 • Family
Wanted to amuse 2 toddlers on a wet winter morning.came to twiggies.very busy managed to get the last table.lots of groups with friends chatting .both our toddlers loved the big blue slide.one had to be rescued when he got "lost"in the top corner. Then was fine.the time flew past quickly and both toddlers were tired and hungry at the end of their play.Decided not to eat there as all sandwich based light snacks. Not good for anyone wheat intolerant. The food that we saw coming out looked fine but not suitable for me.
Will definatly return as the toddlers loved it.Good value for money and well layed out soft play area with good visibility when watching little ones at play

Hi, I am glad you liked your time there. I am the owner of Twiggy's and I am also Gluten Intolerant and as such all our menu is available as a gluten free option. We take great care to ensure that there is no needless allergens in our food including the add on bits such as pickles and sauces. We have Gluten free cakes and crisps, our spreads are all dairy and gluten free and we even have a separate area and equipment for those who have a severe gluten intolerance. On our menu it also says that gluten free bread is available. All our staff have been through allergen training and hold current certificates for such. I hope that next time you visit you will decide to eat. Thank you for your review. Andrew

Fabulous, highly recommend and will definitely be back!
Dec 2019
I visited yesterday for the first time with my 2 year old and almost 4 year old. We had a fabulous few hours and would definitely recommend a visit here! It is a great size to be able to see children at all times and at the time of our visit (Monday morning) was extremely quiet.

The food and drinks are lovely, basic food menu of sandwiches, toasties, mini pizzas, cakes, chocolate bars etc but all reasonably priced and what children (and Mummies!) like to eat.

The whole place is kept so clean and tidy. The two ladies were amazing and were cleaning everything so thoroughly, plates were instantly cleared away from the tables when they were finished with and the floors, tables, high-chairs were all immaculate.

Unfortunately, my little girl had an accident whilst we were there and split her lip. The two ladies were so kind, helpful and reassuring and helped to make my little one feel much happier.Thank you so much, I was really grateful. We will definitely be back soon and will recommend to others : )

Lovely revamp
Jul 2019 • Family
Recently under new management - the changes although subtle have been lovely. It is much cleaner. The menu is slowly being expanded although more healthy snacks would be appreciated, the pizzas aren’t great and the high sugar enormous ice lollies are not really needed...it can get too busy and noisy, not helped by the often loud music. A bit of child control is sometimes needed especially when parents get engrossed in conversations and don’t keep an eye on their kids! The toilets often need a bit of attention with so many littlies traipsing back and forth. Thankfully the tatty baby toys have gone though but charging under 6 month olds to get in, when they aren’t even mobile and often sleep through the visit, seems unnecessary - shame the loyalty card has been scrapped too. However, it is a lovely soft play, in so far as soft plays go. You don’t come away feeling filthy and it is small enough to be able to keep an eye on the kids at all times yet big enough that the don’t get bored!

Hello Jane, Thank you for your review and I am glad that you like the changes. I would just like to comment on some of your points, We do have lots of other things on the menu that differ from pizzas and the pizzas we do have are from a leading brand. With regards to the ice pops, we removed the high sugar and high fat ice creams and went with these branded ice lollies that are only 25 calories per 90ml icepop. Other changes we have made are to remove all full sugar drinks and are in the process of changing the "Fruit Shoot" brand to one with half the sugar and greater value for money. We have also removed the use of nearly 6000 plastic bottles a year by the change to cans. All the cans are recycled for charity (Yorkshire Air Ambulance) I am sorry you thought the toilets were not to your standard, but can assure you they are checked regularly during the day, did you report your concerns during your visit? With regards to child supervision, it is totally the parents / carer responsibility to supervise their children during the visit and my staff are there to ensure safety. We have a full CCTV system that monitors the frame and should we see any behaviour that a parent has not addressed we will act, but a child is the responsibility of the parent / carer who brought the child. The reason we charge £1.50 for children 3 - 11 months is to cover the costs of nappy disposal etc. As you can imagine this is quite significant due to the volume of people we get through the centre. We are in the process of introducing a new loyalty card scheme, but as we are a totally new company we chose only to honour any full loyalty cards issued by the previous company in the first 2 months of our operation as we have no idea how many were out there and had to put an end date at some point. I hope you do come again and enjoy the ongoing changes that we are making. Thank you for taking the time to make a Tripadvisor comment and I hope I have answered some of your points. Regards Andrew
