Met friends here before visiting the Memorial gardens, they like the pub we though it was still a locals pub only vibe, good pint, semi slow service on a Sunday.

The Nags Head is a traditional community pub on the northern end of Belper centre, from outside it reminded us much of a Marston's pub. The interior is pleasant and comfortable, staff are welcoming, and there's even a pool table. The real ale selection we found to be too limited though, with 1-2 guest ales a month - next to the entrance there was even a poster with the guest ale schedule for 2020. That I haven't seen before. A good pub for the local punters, for us - on a pub crawl of Belper, with its alarmingly high number of good and even great establishments - it offered too little to linger.

This is one of several places to get a pint in Belper that are all very close to each other, its a traditional pub but when we visited seemed regulars were in favour and only stayed for a pint, better atmosphere elsewhere.

Visited with my son-in-law on a Thursday .. Conversations soon struck up with very friendly locals ... lady behind the bar was, friendly & efficient.

Real ale kept in top condition, which is perhaps a good idea when serving it to Belper folk !!

Was doing a tour of my haunts from 50yrs ago & intended to have just a couple here, stayed 3hrs, which says it all.

A must visit pub when in Belper.

Just stumbled on this place during my fiftieth birthday afternoon out. Had meant only to have a quick half at 7pm.
We were still in at closing time. Lovely pair of bar staff made us feel really welcome, they were only looking after it while the landlady was away, but fair play Lewis and partner, you were brilliant. We loved being in an old fashioned town pub with a jukebox and a nice Saturday night atmosphere. Great views out of the front window too.
Thanks all

In Belper for a weekend get-away at a dog friendly, Airbnb cottage and after reading reviews, visited the Nags Head for a refreshing lunchtime pint of ale and what a great pub. Clean grounds outside, lovely typical olde pub interior, fab beers and excellent staff. The place and people ooze charm and if you're going to drink anywhere in Belper, come to the Nags Head. Also, very accommodating for dogs with water and treats too. A good old fashioned English pub....great beer, great charm and great service...A winner !!

The Nags Head Pub is located just above the Market Place in Belper, on High Pavement. Recently taken over, it is a traditional pub with pool, large TV, fruit machine and a good selection of ales. There is a large car park and most surprising of all is the 'Secret Garden' a secluded, grassed seating area tucked away behind the pub.
This is a very friendly pub, the Landlady is very welcoming. There is a weekly program of entertainments, including free pool, free juke box, karaoke and live bands playing on Saturday nights. Well worth a visit...and 'dog friendly' too!

To be firstly greeted with a nice friendly smile from the landlady, you know it's going to be a great visit. This is a proper drinking pub. Friendly locals, great jukebox and not expensive. Loved it and long may it continue.

A no nonsense, traditional pub with good ales, great staff, friendly locals and an amazing jukebox (the most obscure tracks ever). Great bands on too!
Well done to Andrea (landlady) and her long suffering hubby Simon for such a warm welcome :-)

It's very sad for me now, what I'm about to say. This has always been one of my favourite pubs in Belper, but my experience there this afternoon was very disappointing. The pub was draped in Union Jacks, so I assumed that it would be a pleasant and congenial place in which to watch the second half of the Queen's funeral (I don't have a television, so had been watching it up to then on my laptop.)
I could not have been more wrong. The general tone among the clientele varied from indifference to open sneering. But by far the worst thing for me was the swearing. There were three people - obviously long-standing clientele - who were particularly antagonistic. One of them used the word "fxxking" in every single sentence. I am not exaggerating. It was just repulsive - literally repulsive, because it forced me to walk out after finishing my first pint.

I'm always telling my friends what a nice place Belper is. But would I now invite anyone from any other part of the country to your pub? No. Or someone from any other part of the world. No way. What an incredibly bad advertisement you are for our nice town.

I won't be coming back in a hurry. And, when I do, I hope to find it a good deal more congenial.
