You wouldn't know its there if you don't know where to look but saves a lot of walking or cycling uphill! Starts at the far end of the leisure centre car park & takes you to ashbourne cycle hire on the tissington trail

Out exploring Ashbourne on a Saturday afternoon and we decided to venture to the tunnel. Given that it hosts its own TripAdvisor page, we thought there might be something to it beyond the obvious. But there wasn't. Literally just a tunnel, unfortunately with a bunch of hooligans hanging about inside it. Don't waste your time and spend longer wandering round... More

It is quite an unusual side to be found in towns like this. I think it is a nice experience to make this walk and continue towards Tissington village. It's quite busy during weekends (both with walkers and bikers). Nice stretch and exercise, not very demanding, but rewarding.

Ashbourne, Staffs has a former railway tunnel, about 400m long taking you under part of the town. As its wide and high it doesn't really have that claustrophobic appeal. But some very echoy screams and shouts can be tried out! Its a natural route for walkers and cyclists alike - part of the Tissington trail I believe. Great for folks... More

Ashbourne tunnel is a disused railway tunnel which passes under the town. It is lit, but not brightly. At times, not sure how often, there are recorded train sounds from speakers in the tunnel. It was a useful short cut for my family, with bikes, from the town to the Tissington trail entrance point/car park/cafe/bike hire. The smaller kids enjoyed... More

Disused railway tunnel which forms part of the Tissington Trail. Well kept, with some lighting. Very good echo possible!

What more can you say. It's a former train tunnel, about 400 yards long, it's quite dark, very wide and leads you from one side of Ashbourne to the other. You can cycle along a tarmac path, walk or let your kids run wild in the tunnel. There's a cafe at one end - the start (or end) of the... More

Interesting and a pleasant walk through the tunnel. Easy access for pedestrians, bikes, pushchairs. Would recommend.

This does what it says on the tin... a quiet car park that can often offer that much needed space that may seem way out of town, until you walk the short distance through the tunnel. It leads you into the town itself. I was led to believe that nostalgic sounds should be able to be heard at times, but... More
