The National Trust is a registered charity. With your help, we protect some of the most important spaces and places in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. We take care of historic houses, gardens, mills, coastline, forests, woods, fens, beaches, farmland, moorland, islands, archaeological remains, nature reserves, villages and pubs - and then we open them up for ever, for everyone. Dovedale valley is owned and cared for by the National Trust, with important woodlands, wildflower meadows and impressive limestone rock features throughout the valley. Please note; there is a privately owned car park a short and easy walk from the famous Stepping Stones. This is not a National Trust car park. The nearest National Trust car park is a mile away at Ilam Park, where National Trust member can park for free. There are toilets beside the Dovedale car park and these are owned and maintained by the Peak District National Park Authority. There is a charge of 20p to use these toilets.

A beautiful place to visit with fantastic walks, awesome scenery. Quite easy walking but does have quite a few steps which would prove difficult for pushchairs and people with disabilities. Lovely river walk and it's a must to cross over the stepping stones, would love...More

If you want peace, quiet and tranquility Dovedale is a must. No matter the weather this is a great place to visit. Fresh air and exercise with a naughty ice cream at the end if the walk.

As a NT member I parked for free in Ilam Park and walked to Dovedale. It was a sunny Saturday so was rather busy and unfortunately there appeared to be a large number of children (in the 100s) from some sort of club (they were...More

Park in Ilam and take the footpath opposite the river to avoid the £3 car park. The walk down the river is lovely but very busy. There are certainly quieter areas of the Peak District!

There are several different trails that can be taken from/through Dovedale. Our favourite is Dovedale to Milldale which is around 6 miles there and back. If you don't like crowds then get there early. It starts to get busy from around 10am as it is...More
