There is a private car park at Dovedale, which costs £3.00 at the moment but tends to fill up very quickly. Lovely walk from Dovedale to Milldale, beside the river and you can choose to cross the river by the stepping stones if you wish. It is possible to see on occasions, climbers or fishermen during the walk to Milldale... More

A great place to walk whatever your age. We visited with a four year old who could easily walk to the stepping stones and beyond.

I have been to Dovedale many times and still find places I had not seen before. It is free entry but there is a pay & display car park, so you pay for time you spend there. There is a small trailer café selling drinks and ice cream, not cheap, but you can have a picnic very nice for this,... More

An absolutely beautiful place to visit! We walked along the path to take in the views. There is a little place to grab food and toilets near the car park. Well worth a trip with children!

A short walk from Ilam gets you to the bottom of a viewpoint that you could climb and a river that can be crossed by stepping stones. It was quite busy but still picturesque and still a joy.

A fantastic Dale, very popular with tourists from home and overseas. The scenery is spectacular and the River Dove enhances the views, the river is renowned for its stepping stones. Lots of good hotels and restaurants in the area.

A super, quiet, beautiful, historical, riverside walk for all of varying abilities and ages. The famous stepping stones crossing worth waiting for - plus the ice cream! Good car parking and toilet facilities at start of walk.

I have walked along this route many times throughout my life, and still enjoy it. The stepping stones always capture the attention of visitors and you may have to queue to get across. Climb up Thorpe cloud for an exhilarating view of the valley, then meander along the riverside until you reach the caves. There are plenty of beautiful places... More

Dovedale is a fantastic place for a walk for families/couples etc. We took our 2 spaniels last week and they enjoyed every minute of it in & out of the water. Definitely recommend a trip out 👍.
