I've been here quite a few times now, and it's always enjoyable. You pay to park (it's reasonable) but other than that you can wander all round the lake on foot or hire a bike and do it that way. It took us a few hours by bike, I imagine it would be all day on foot. There is a... More

We walked around carsington water on a 81/2 mile charity walk. Up and down the rolling track, through fields and wooded areas. The tracks are well kept and are also used by cyclists. There was no problem with the cyclists as people respected each other's needs. There is a visitors center with restaurant shops and car parks. If you want... More

Hi, Thank you so much for your review of Carsington Water. What a wonderful place to do a walk, and you are very kind to do this for charity too :) The longer "red" trail is the most challenging on site. At 8 miles long, it takes you all the way around the reservoir with an option of an additional... More

Hi, thanks for your review, it sounds like you had a very active day! The route around the reservoir is certainly interesting and at 8 miles around, it's not for the faint hearted. The site is also part of the National Cycle Network and section 54A crosses the site providing a link to the High Peak and Tissington Trails. Not... More

We had a walk around the Water, it is about 9 miles as a round trip. The footpaths are good but there are a lot of ups and downs as quite a lot of the route is through wooded areas. The path does not go by the waters edge, so very safe for visiting with young children. We were walking,... More

Parked at Sheepwash car park and walked (4 year old son on his bike) along well maintained paths to the visitor centre and back. The playground at the visitor centre was really good and there is a café/restaurant selling reasonably priced food and drinks. Will return next year to do the full 8 mile circuit.

What do kids of 3 and 5 like? A playground, bouncy castle thingy's, run around like lunatics, ducks on water, open spaces, ice cream and more! Carsington fits the bill nicely, so on a cold and miserable Bank Holiday that's exactly what they got and they loved it. Has an extensive visitors centre, plenty of eateries and I guess if... More
