Ignore the minority negative reviews - just check the website for opening hours and tour times and whatever your age you will enjoy a trip into our early industrial heritage. It was fascinating to see the bobbins being made, including the wonderful steam engine with its slow pumping and hissing. I had no idea how many bobbins needed to be... More

We visited Stott Park on one of the steam weekends. The chap who showed us round clearly loved the place and was enthusiastic and didn't mind questions. Everyone got somerging from the trip. Worth an afternoon visit.

This is a fantastic site and well worth a visit. There were once dozens of bobbin mills throughout the Lakes and this is the last surviving example. The tour is included as part of the admission price and is extremely informative with demonstrations of some of the ancient machinery. The staff were very informative and helpful. It was great to... There's more to see at this Bobbin Mill than you might think. The history is really interesting and the guided tour is well worth doing. The guide shows you how the bobbins were made, using working machinery, and you can really imagine how the place might have been at its peak. A great visit for a few hours, on a... More

We arrived just in time for the guided tour. It was very interesting and provided an insight into the conditions and life in the mill in the 1800s. Definitely worth visiting!

I loved this museum, so interesting and so very accommodating to our large group, including 4 dogs! (One who couldn't manage the stairs, so a member of staff offered to sit with him while we continued on the tour). We love historical museums and although only small it was fascinating. Plus the bobbins made in house are fantastic just wish... More

A great slice of history, with an engaging and fun tour, it's not surprising that this comes highly recommended and an important part of English Heritage's industrial preservation. The general experience - display and tour - does a great job of putting the industrial heritage of the Lakes into perspective. We had great fun drawing comparisons with modern industry, which... My wife and I have been twice in the last 3 years, the most recent July 2016. Essentially this is a history trip which includes a practical demonstration of the forgotten local industry of wooden bobbin turning, which ended in the 1970's with the advent of plastic cotton reels. Children younger than teenagers are unlikely to enthuse about the place,... More
