Situated on the Southern tip of Lake Windermere. Lakes Aquarium has a wide range of native marine and freshwater fish including Pike, Arctic Char, Seahorses and more. It is also home to Asian shortclawed otters, pygmy marmoset monkeys, Clown fish and amazing leaf cutter ants. Cafes and giftshops are available onsite and we can be reached by Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway or Windermere Lake Cruise as well as by car. Please note the car park is not owned by the aquarium and is pay and display. We are sorry but we cannot allow dogs inside the aquarium building.

We thought it was a great little place, very unexpected and a lot to see. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. It was great to see the otters being fed.

There isn't tons to see here but if you have time between the railway and boat trips it's worth popping in. They have more than fish (terrapins, monkeys, ants, snails, snakes, geckos) and kids will love it. They offer a discount for carers/disabled which was great for us as I was traveling with my autistic non-verbal brother.

I visited the aquarium with my partner and son, and really enjoyed it. It took us about an hour to walk around the aquarium, it's fairly short but we took our time. There's a lot to do with children such as trying costumes on, sand pit and drawing pictures for the 'wall of fame'. My son is only 2 months... More

Thank you for your review, we are pleased that you enjoyed your visit and hope to welcome you back. The aquarium is fully pushchair accessible and there is a lift between the two levels of the building. I believe you must have missed this, for reference next time you visit the entrance to the lift is directly beside the photo... More

This aquarium caters for young children, there is an area specifically for them to draw and touching starfish. There is a huge number of different fish, reptiles, a few small monkeys , otters turtles tortoise, and an underground corridor where you can look up and watch the fish swimming. Probably takes an hour to get around, but is really worth... More

Was quite disappointed really. Found the whole place to be very small you could go around the whole place in 15 minutes. Probably better suited for children and families. There just wasn't a lot to see and what there was seemed a bit repeated. Only.the otters and the rays were really interesting.

This is just my personal experience so please don't judge. I got to the conclusion that It is the first and last time that I am visiting something that keeps animals traped, I left that place feeling so so sad for them. I think that there were a couple of minks or something like that towards the end of our... More

Thank you for your review and I am sorry the the experience, left you feeling bad. I assume that you are referring to our otters, however they are one of the first exhibits on your aquarium tour. Our otters do have a close bond and do spend a lot of time together, however their enclosure is adequate for there needs... More

We visited as part of the "Freedom of the Lake and Aquarium" ticket of Windermere Lake Cruises. I suspect those disappointed by their visit probably find difficulty using their minds in an enquiring fashion. The whole is incredibly clean and well managed and many of the superbly looked after animals are found between the wide limits of delightful (the Harvest... More

I came with my husband and loved it I thought the entry price was reasonable. The animals were clean and had enrichment and I loved the otters. There was a lady showing people a bearded dragon and her love for him was obvious which was nice to know there not just looked after but cared for. Would highly recommend have... More

Visited on a combined ticket with the sailings and railway. Really nice place with a great range of things to look at and knowledgeable staff. Well placed near other attractions

This is quite a small aquarium, you won't spend very long here, but enough here to keep our 1 year old interested for an hour. It does have the usual tanks of colourful fish, but there are three things that are definitely worth mentioning: Firstly, the otters were great - they come up really close to the glass so you... Thank you for your review, we are pleased that you were able to leave here with 3 favourite exhibits. Unfortunately we are unable to have toilet facilities in the aquarium building so the baby change is an added extra, however there are two further sets of toilets/baby changing just outside the aquarium building. We hope you and your family will... More
