Purchased a groupon voucer for a spa day and afternoon tea. I have been here with a groupon voucher befor and enjoyed myself sp thought I would return. However, this time it was awful.
My masseuse had realy long nails and left a large red scratch all down my back that took a day to go away. I did not want to embarass her so did not mention this. The massage therefore was not relaxing and rather painful. However my sister who had her massage next door enjoyed it and said it was good.
The young man on the front desk in the gym area was uninterested and on his phone- clearly didnt want to be there.
The facilities are run down, which I already knew but nothing has changed since my last visit. Lockers are difficult to use and mainly broken so had to leave all our valuables unattended. Our use of the pool was cut short as we felt uncomfortable due to a man repeatedly staring at us.
***The hairdryers in the changing room are DANGEROUS and should be taken out. The saftey helmet covering the back of them are non existant meaning hair is easily sucked in and torn out which I found out for myself. I hope no children use these!!!- Sort this out please ***
Following this experience we were looking forward to our afternoon tea which was also abit hit and miss. Firstly, the positives; The serving lady was extremly nice and friendly and couldnt do enough for you. She gave us a glass of champagne each which was a nice treat and checked on us regularly to check that everything was okay. The food however was a disapointment. We were served sandwiches on stale bread; 3 cheese and pickle, one tuna mayo and 2 egg sandwiches- A very risky selection of fillings especialy considering one of us had to eat two cheese and pickle. Clearly we were given friday leftovers? The scones were nice however we were given 2 plastic pots of jam and a small cup of fresh cream (so we thought) this was actually whipped cream that had been mixed up by the kitchen staff so it apeared fresh.
Thankfully we paid for ths using groupon and would have being extremly disapoited if we had paid full price for this experience.

Attended an awards dinner , service was very poor at the bar , not alot of choice , and asked for a ginger beer - got served alcoholic ( ? ) when the person requested for should be alcohol free . Staff not bothered . Food dire , had ordered veggie . Got asked ' is chicken ok ? ' Then waiter said I will see what the kitchen can knock up .... OMG it was gravy granules , with fried mushroom in a pastry case - with gravy - inedible . Didn't complain as worried about what would be served instead ! At £25.00 a head , this was a total rip off and I would not recommend this venue for any event of any kind , based on our experience .

Everything started out perfect, we emailed the spa and got a really good deal. £99 for two people with one treatment each, afternoon tea and access to the spa facilities. This is really where the positives end. As we entered the 'spa' we were greeted by a man who was using his phone the entire time whilst speaking to us. We paid and then we were taken through into the changing rooms, which were exactly like those you would find at a public swimming pool.
We had a few hours until our treatments, so we used the spa facilities. It's pretty hard to relax when there are children running around everywhere. When it was time for our treatments, we headed into the 'relaxation room' which was full of angry and upset guests that had been waiting around hours for their treatments. My friend was taken upstairs for her massage on time, but twenty minutes later she came back down. She had paid for a full one hour body massage, and had been given a rushed 20 minute massage. We went to the reception and told them and the same man that had dealt with us before bluntly replied 'Go back into the room and wait.. I will see if I can catch one of the therapists when they come back down'.
An hour later of sitting waiting in this room, we had both not heard anything and I still hadn't had my treatment. We went back to the reception and asked what was going on, this time it was a lady that spoke to us. She was a lot nicer, and a lot more willing to help. She told us that two of the therapists had not turned up for the day. My friend then asked if she was ever going to get the rest of her massage, and if I was going to even get my treatment, to which the lady simply replied 'Probably not'.
We demanded a refund, which they did thankfully give us. They then told us that we could still get our afternoon tea, which we did as we were both starving after just waiting around in a room all day.
At the bar we asked for no prawns and no egg on our sandwiches due to allergies, she said this was not a problem. We also ordered a portion of chips for £3.50. After around ten minutes of waiting outside this was brought out to us, only they forgot the chips, and they had brought out egg sandwiches. When we finally got this sorted everything on the afternoon tea was awful. The scones were so dry that I could barely bite into them, the cake was cheap and the chips looked like something I could buy at Aldi.
I have never experienced a worse '4 star' establishment.

Totally agree with the other reviews. This was not a spa.. Just a very very poor leisure centre. This was not a good experience at all.

Dirty!!!!! Would not recommend this place as a spa. Dirty loungers, dirty pool floor, dangerous broken overflow vents on the floor, rude staff providing the treatments, adequate changing rooms.. Again they were dirty. Toilets in changing rooms were disgusting. Good job they provided slippers!!! Chemicals in the pool area made my eyes sting after being sat there for 15 minutes. Afternoon tea with frozen sandwiches.. Lovely..

My Mum and I booked in for the Elemis Exotic Lime and Ginger Body Scrub. The treatment was fantastic and very relaxing, the cactus bristle body brushing was a highlight, along with all the gorgeous Elemis products, which left our skin feeling baby soft! Would be perfect if you were staying at the hotel prior to a holiday, it's a real treat! Thank you to our lovely therapists, Anya and Magda, we will definitely be back soon!

My friend and I went for a full body massage at the Hallmark hotel spa today. My masseuse was a girl called Sammi. The massage was truelly amazing. I was in a complete state of relaxation and the pressure applied was spot on from start to finish, it really was the best massage I have had in my life. I would DEFINITELY recommend to anyone looking to unwind and relax for an hour and relieve the stress and pressures that build up in life. Thank you for this amazing experience. Will definitely book in again.

We booked to go as a group of 4 with a red letter day voucher. The voucher was booked and confirmed by a member of the spa staff on 28th March 2019 for our visit for 11th May 2019. Upon arrival we were met by an obnoxious receptionist stating that they no longer accept red letter day vouchers. We explained we had booked in March and had heard nothing about them not accepting the voucher, they had booked us in, and a confirmation email was received. Our group then had to sit through the receptionist making several phonecalls, and laughing about it, to managers. We were told after each phone call that they could offer 30% off treatments but they couldn't honour our voucher. A manager finally came to see us all in person. We were told they hadn't accepted red letter day vouchers since 2017! But the red letter day website clearly stated Hallmark spa as an option in March 2019. Again, we were offered 30% off, we again refused. Our booking should have been honoured, it should not have been booked in 5 weeks before our visit as the staff should have known they weren't accepting those vouchers! We left without any treatments, we all had arranged for child care, and had waited until we were all free to go together. We had travelled to get there. Absolutely awful experience!!!! Rude, unhelpful staff, very poor!

Stayed at the hotel and left the car there while going on holiday, we was flying early in the morning, so hoping for a quiet early night. On arrival asked at reception for an extra fold up bed as we have a 16 yr old boy and girl, all there was a sofa bed and double. We asked 4 times, eventually it arrived at 11pm then there was armed police there at 2 arresting somebody. There was 3 separate fire alarms gone off. When we got back the car was damaged to be told, left at your own risk. Would never use Manchester one again!

Well what can I say, first impressions great, true reality SHOCKING the room temperature is out of this world, absolutely bloody roasting. We have a table top fan here in the room that’s louder than the Boeing 747’s flying past the windows. There is a serious lack of anything cold in this room, no air con no fridge no nothing. My 6 year old son must have lost 2 kilos through sweating & we are only have way through the night. We are fortunate to be right next to main enterence. I’m convinced guests are racing suit cases up & down the car park for fun the noise is horrific. Thankfully tho we will be checking out @ 3am to catch a flight to Spain where we plan on cooling down for a few days. If you like a good sauna forget the spa, just book a room!!

I have booked a Spa treatment and 1 night stay for 4 people for my friend's 40th. I am now worried with the reviews I am reading about the spa. Should I look elsewhere?
Written May 30, 2017
Hi. We didn't use the Spa, but I would be concerned about this venue based on the reviews too. When we stayed at the hotel the pool roof was obviously leaking, given that a huge tarpaulin was over it. I thin the spa building is in an art deco style and not well maintained. Personally I would look elsewhere.

Can you use the jacuzzi and pool facilities with out being a guest

Sorry I don't live round that area so couldn't tell you about the train station. Ask the hotel or google it. The train would be the best option if you want to go into the city .

How far is Manchester train station away from hotel and do you do a pick up and drop off service ?
Written July 7, 2015
The nearest train station is Handforth which is about 1 mile. Manchester City centre is about 10km away so a fair distance. They don't do a collection service from the city but they do a park and ride to Manchester airport
