We love, love, love our days at Cliveden! It is about a 45 min drive for me but I try to find any excuse to go.

Each visit is completely different depending on what route we go that day, although all visits end with afternoon tea in the gorgeous cafe.

Cafe is really reasonable for an NT and the scones are beautiful, they even offer plain ones.

Walks are superb and so much to do with children, many hidden gems from the playground, adventure woodland and hidden wooden house. All natural and in keeping with the surrounding.

They even have a maze, which my son adores!

Only thing we haven't don't yet is stay and boat ride, that is on our 2022 list!

Dear Lucyloohh, Thank you for your amazing review! It's so lovely to receive such positive comments about the whole estate and the variety of things you can do here at all ages. The boating season starts in Spring and for more information about the fleet, from the cruises to the canoes for hire, please have a look on our website. Thank you for taking the time to write your review and we look forward to seeing you back at Cliveden soon. Kind regards

Really felt and I loved place today. Scaffolding and green net everywhere, Christmas tree was being decorated and trade delivery vans parked right out the front. Scruffy and poorly turned out staff. Tired furniture and decor. For what we were about to spend it was not a good start so we walked out. For the prices they charge things need to be perfect. Attention to detail is key. Take a leaf out of the Fife Arms book because you are not hitting the standards you should.

Dear 763sians, Unfortunately you have left your review on the National Trust at Cliveden page - we take care of the grounds and gardens of the estate, whereas the house is operated as a hotel. Should you want to provide feedback for the hotel, you can contact them directly on reception@clivedenhouse.co.uk I'm sorry we can't respond to your comments any further. Kind regards

We really enjoyed our day out at Cliveden. It was me, my wife and 2 kids and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Only tip is to park in the closer car park not the woodland car park because the it is a further walk away from the main part.

Dear kimjune, Thank you for your lovely review. There is a lot to do for the children from the Storybook Playden to the maze and all those acres to run around in! We'll soon be starting the winter children's trail, Percy the Park Keeper's Winter Wander trail, and you can still come along to do the '50 Things To Do when you're at Cliveden' which is fun for all age groups. Boating has finished for the year and it's been really popular, so we look forward to the next season. Hopefully you'll be able to come back to spend another day out with us. Kind regards

Fabulous house and grounds -- pity the house wasn't open.
I recommend the 1:00 talk on the terrace
Worth a walk to the chapel and burial ground.

Dear jimbosmiff, We're so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your visit at Cliveden. We're looking forward to the guided house tours for National Trust visitors resuming again next year so hopefully you may be able to come back to see us. The chapel is closed now for the winter to protect it from low temperatures and poor weather conditions but it usually reopens around the end of the March each year. The talks from the South Terrace (external to the house) are run by some of our fantastic volunteers who are so knowledgeable about Cliveden and the history. They are not guaranteed each day but it's worth checking with the Information Centre when you arrive to see. The Memorial Garden is special place on the estate - tucked away and very peaceful. Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. Kind regards

A visit to the National Trust Cliveden is well worth the entrance fee, we visited on a Sunday and it was busy. Plenty of walks, big steps to get to the boathouse, take the free tour if available to learn the history and how it ended up in NT control. Chapel when open is rich opulence.

Dear TeamWard, Thank you for your review, it is really appreciated. The talks from the South Terrace (external to the house) are run by some of our fantastic volunteers who are so knowledgeable about Cliveden and the history. They are not guaranteed each day but it's worth checking with the Information Centre when you arrive to see. We look forward to the guided house tours resuming next year, again run by volunteers - what would we do without them?! The Chapel is now closed for the year for conservation reasons to protect it from the drop in temperature and poor weather conditions. It should open around the end of March next year. Thank you again. Kind regards

Well joined the national Trust a couple of months ago, hoping to go a number of places I wished I'd checked before majority of the attractions I wanted to visit are closed and are not open until next year when my membership runs out pointless joing so I'm cancelling I'm afraid.

Dear Bnessaboo, Thank you for your comments and we're sorry to hear how you feel. The gardens, grounds and facilities at Cliveden National Trust are open and have been since reopening early on in 2020. Although the house isn't open for guided tours at the moment, there has been plenty to see and do on the estate. It's such a shame to hear that you're thinking of cancelling your membership as you as a member are so important to us. We'd be happy to have a chat with you about our places and where you're looking to visit to see if we can help. You can email us at cliveden@nationaltrust.org.uk or main enquiries, enquiries@nationaltrust.org.uk for general NT and membership information. Kind regards

I’ve been here twice now. The second time I invited my parents, as I was so amazed last time. They were equally as amazed! Everything here is beautiful and so well kept. There is a lot to see and do, so you can make a great day of it. I like the fact you can go for a long walk, which you don’t always find with national trust sites.
It’s an hour drive for us, but if I had the time I would drive here once a week, it’s that perfect.
We ate lunch at the cafe too. The food was lovely. I find NT trust cafes on the pricey everywhere you go (but I understand why) here’s no different. If I did have to critique the NT site it would be that due to the sheer size of the site and it’s popularity it could definitely do with another cafe or more coffee/cake kiosks. There are however plentiful picnic benches around in lovely settings.

Dear 805bethp, Thank you for your review and we're so glad you enjoyed visiting, that you came twice! There is a lot to see and do here, and with the changing seasons the gardens are constantly changing throughout the year. At the moment, we have a late burst of Autumn colour with the leaves on the trees in glorious golds, reds and oranges. We look forward to seeing you soon for may be a frosty, sunny winter walk. Kind regards

We spent a lovely sunny September day at National Trust Clivedon. There is so much to see, some of it quite hidden so make sure that you get a map from the information kiosk in the car park.

We spoke to the lady in the information kiosk about boat trips. She advised us to just walk down to the River. Be warned, there are a LOT of steps down to the River Thames from Clivedon! We walked down to the river only to be told that the next boat trip was fully booked. There were vacancies on the 1o/c trip however so we booked and paid (£11.50pp). So pre-book a boat trip online and make your life easier!

You pass the Fountain of Love between the car park and Clivedon house (which is only open to residents currently). The Cockerell Pavillion is an attractive clock tower (the hotel spa is in here).

Back to the amazing gardens on the Clivedon Estate! The Parterre is stunning with vibrant colours viewed from the terrace or close up. The stunning Long Garden takes your breath away with colourful seasonal beds and clever topiary birds and sculptures. The rose garden was a little past it’s best but still pretty and smelt wonderful. The oriental Water Garden again was a bit late in the season but there were a few water lilies left. It was a lush and green area. The maze is also here and the Dolls House (which sounded exciting but was just a cafe that is closed next to the children’s play area).

The little chapel is situated at the edge of the Parterre overlooking the River Thames and is now a mausoleum for members of the Astor family. Near the chapel is the memorial garden (with tricky steps down into it) which is really well kept and tucked away. It is quite moving. We could not visit the tortoise fountain as there was tree cutting in progress and access denied. There is lots more to see and woodland walks. The Amphitheatre was a disappointment, just a circle of grass! The signs could be better I feel.

We really enjoyed our day. We took a picnic and just had a hot drink in the Orangery cafe. We walked for miles! It was worth the £15 each entrance fee.
There is a shop and small garden centre at the car park and also an ice cream stall.

Dear Nicola D, Thank you for this absolutely fantastic review! You really did get to see most of the estate, even the parts which are a little hidden away. We're so pleased to hear you managed to get on one of the boat trips as the river is such a special place. Boating has finished for this season but will resume next year. It's been very popular (both the skippered cruises but also the self drive electric launches) so although you can book whilst here, booking online in advance is well worth it. We hope to welcome you back for another adventure. Kind regards
