Soar above a breathtaking landscape, sculpted over time, decorated by nature and enjoyed by generations.Stand on top of Dunstable Downs for a view that will simply take your breath away. These Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) are designated for the quality of their chalk grasslands. As well as two Scheduled Ancient Monuments (Five Knolls and Medieval Rabbit Warrens) there are many other historical features and the site has much to offer you.The chalk grasslands of the Downs have miles of footpaths and several circular walks, a fascinating history and an abundance of plants and wildlife.Dunstable Downs is within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and the highest point in Bedfordshire. The wind-swept ridge provides ideal conditions for a variety of air sports, especially kite flying. On calmer days it's the ideal site to enjoy the view and a picnic. Please note: Chilterns Gateway Centre is owned by Central Bedfordshire Council and managed by the National Trust.

Went on a special birthday picnic with my son and family. It was a lovely day. Didn't realise how much we caught the sun. My granddaughter who is 3 loved flying the kite and watching her dad roll down a small hill. The view is beautiful. I'm lucky to only live about half hour walk away. There is a very... More

Lovely views on a nice day. Watch the hang gliders, gliders and kite flyers; grab an ice cream from the van (yummy) and take a walk. Grandchild loved it - especially on a sunny day when we sat and took it all in. Relaxing - and cheap activity with them and gave them chance to run off their energy!

I came over to Luton yesterday and called into Dunstable Downs on my way back. I used to come here a lot over twenty years ago. It has been improved a lot. There is a £2.50 per day parking charge but that is fine for me. I know there have been some who have complained about the cost on here... More

If you are lucky enough to live in Totternhoe, then the planes take up the gliders daily, weather permitting. Perfect for long walks, there's a café for nibbles, ample parking although can get a bit congested. Great views, nearby zeera (restaurant) worth a visit. Ideal for family panics.

We brought the kids here today to take part in one of the National Trusts kids kite making events, and to fly our own kites. The car parking is ample, even on a busy sunny day like today. We are NT members so free to park. The area is kept clean and tidy and well maintained. We took a picnic... More
