The Martha's Vineyard Museum is privileged to be the steward of three of the Island's lighthouses. The East Chop, Edgartown, and Gay Head lighthouses are not only historic reminders of a bygone age, but are working beacons that still send a light out into the night. Beyond their important functional role, these structures also offer visitors spectacular views of the breathtaking beauty of Vineyard Sound, the simple elegance of Edgartown Harbor & Chappaquiddick, and the majestic cliffs of Aquinnah. The Gay Head Lighthouse is open seasonally. A lighthouse keeper will be available and the doors will be open during designated hours. Parking is available, but limited, on Aquinnah Circle. The Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA) busses do have routes to the lighthouse.

The views from the lighthouse were really nice! Could see for miles! The historical story of the lighthouse is even better! Would recommend going here!

We saw the PBS show about how this historic lighthouse was saved from toppling over the cliffs. So when we planned this autumn getaway, we included a day trip to Martha's Vineyard. Just for the record, we used the wonderful public bus system on the island. ($8 for a day pass, $5 seniors.) The lighthouse is by the Gay Head... More

Absolutely stunning views and beautiful beach nearby. Nice shops and fast food restaurants to satisfy you throughout the day. Lighthouse itself was impressive and the staff there were very knowledgable and proud of the history. Highly recommend

Gay Head is cool place to visit if you like views of the cliffs, like lighthouses and history. It will cost you $5 to climb the stairs to the top of the lighthouse, but the panoramic views are breathtaking. There are a few small local shops and snack bars near the lighthouse as well. We were lucky enough to catch... More

We took a bus from Edgartown to Aquinnah, and it was well worth the 40-45 minute drive. The cliffs are beautiful, and the light house is still functional! There was a wedding going on the evening we went, so we couldn't get too close, but we got some fantastic photos. I'd recommend checking it out at sunset.

We were able to do a self tour of the lighthouse and climb up to the top. The lighthouse is open during the days and in the evening on Thursdays. It happened to be my birthday too! We were able to climb all the way up to the light at the top on a steep set of stairs. The view... More

The Gay Head Lighthouse is the most picturesque one on the island. You have a wonderful view of the cliffs and the Atlantic Ocean.

Beautiful views. The kids really liked being able to see the light turn around and around, they've never been to a lighthouse that allowed them to walk up to the actual light. The lighthouse isn't very high up so younger children will have no problems walking up the 2 or 3 flight of steps.

Wonderful drive through Chilmark and Menemsha to Aquinnah, home to the Gay Head lighthouse. Great views of the Atlantic Ocean and the cliffs. A small number of food and souvenir shops precede the walk to the lighthouse, and there is a nice overlook to take pictures is you choose not to go up to it. Parking is limited to one... More

The lighthouse and views on a clear day are really nice, well worth it to go inside the lighthouse and see the 360 degree views. Parking is very limited Nice attraction to visit. We drove around the island, very peaceful.
