I have been studying for most of my life and in different fields, so I have had many instructors and have an idea what makes a good one and a bad one. Óscar is by a large margin the best I ever met. What initially was planned as doing "only" the AOW with Mar Adentro, turned into a follow up with a Deep Diving specialty and now continues with the Rescue Diver course.
From the instant I walked into the dive shop I felt welcomed. The atmosphere is so warm and the care towards customers so genuine, that you feel you're part of the family. This is by far the best service I received anywhere.
There are many things to say, because Óscar is an excellent teacher. He learned me technique - taught me buoyancy control, corrected my kick, corrected my trim - showed me what I was doing, in which way it was wrong, how to do it right, then reinforced it repeatedly underwater. Before each of the five specialty dives, we sat down together and reviewed the theory, discussed issues and practiced skills on land. His genuine care and interest in my progress made it a joy to go diving and helped me gain confidence in my skills. There is no cutting corners regarding his time and his effort; he offers both generously. And more than keeping me safe, he taught me how to keep myself safe. I was impressed by his, Noé and Cosgaya's level of dedication to their customers; this is simply the best teaching and diving experience I ever had.
Diving in Mahahual is beautiful: there are many kilometers of reefs and corals, landscapes that remind of the Moon, canyons to dive through and drop offs to peak into a world deep under. It's hard to make this experience justice. As I've said to all my friends, everybody should come diving with Mar Adentro. Or as another friend put it, after diving with Óscar, all other dive shops will disappoint you in comparison.
