Banco Chinchorro is amazing and definitely worth the trip! - However, I'm not sure I would dive with Amigos del Mar again. We had booked 2 local dives and a 3 tank trip to Chinchorro. There was a distinct lack of vibe/enthusiasm from the start and the two local dives were very disappoining. There was not much to see, and when there was, the guide took photos first (!) and didn't point out very much otherwise. On the trip to Chinchorro, there were 11 divers and 2 guides, all diving as one group! The other nine guest divers were pretty new (some with fewer than 10 dives!) and for much of the dive we had to avoid being kicked and bumped. One of the divers kicked off a huge piece of coral because of a lack of buoyancy control. The reef itself was beautiful and we had nurse sharks following us on all three dives. I would definitely go again - but only with an operator that has smaller groups and properly supervises divers to make sure they don't destroy the reef.

My friend and I went out on the all day snorkeling trip to the Blue Hole, Half Moon Caye, and the Long Caye "Aquarium." It was truly an amazing day!!! We saw the most amazing coral, fish, small sharks, several sea turtles, a ray, and even had a visit from a dolphin pod! The staff on the boat was super friendly, energetic, and hardworking. Our snorkel guide for the day, Chris, was extremely knowledgable about all of the marine life we saw. As a bonus, our breakfast and lunch were really good-better than expected on a tour like this! I would highly recommend this company and this particular tour.

Amigos del Mar was the best dive company I have had the pleasure to dive with AND I work for a dive company! Heiko, the owner, was extremely responsive via WhatsApp when I booked the trip and even touched base with me the day before we arrived. The dive staff was amazing. Jimena, Gala and Alex took care of everything, from getting my gear on and off the boat, to setting it up correctly (my BDC has two straps and most people tend to put it too low on the tank), to rinsing all of my gear for me after the dives. I was able to store my gear at the shop and didn't have to drag it back to my hotel room after each dive. They even let me store my gear until the morning I was leaving so it could dry out (my room didn't have a balcony, so there was no way it was drying out). Banco Chinchorro is an amazing dive site! The corals are simply stunning and the nurse sharks are like puppies looking for attention. I am looking forward to going back again and showing some of my dive buddies this incredible experience.

I kind of have mixed reviews from this experience, the German woman we originally spoke with was wonderful, she answered all of our questions, and was so positive about the reef, we were pumped. So we booked a two tank dive on the Mahahual reef. The day we came for our dive, we discovered the boat was full, 12 divers, 2 guides. I have never been under water with so many divers at once. When this has happened in the past, I am used to the the dive guides splitting the group and going in different directions. On our dive, we all stayed together, the guides were one at the front and one at the back. Neither of them really pointed out much, it was just like a nice long swim under water. When there was something to see, everyone swam for it. To make things worse, there were two new divers with us, the one was all over the place, bumped into my dive partner once, and just did not know how to behave under water. It was very annoying, the guides should have signaled to him to relax and not swim all over the place. This is a good example of dividing the group into more experienced and less experienced divers. The reef itself overall was not that impressive, the coral, much of it really did not look in good condition, there were some nice sponges, but they were sparse, a decent variety of fish, but in small numbers, the turtle with two remora's on its shell was a bonus. Cant say I would recommend diving this reef.
