We returned to Akumal & Half Moon Bay for our third summer, staying in Casa Luna (2nd time) on the road between Half Moon Bay & Akumal. The spacious villa has a multi-million dollar view of the ocean and is quiet, private, comfortable, and has spectacular landscaping and grounds. The villa has a pool, books, games, outdoor shower, hammocks, and... More

Stayed in one of the condominiums at Half Moon Bay and fell in love!! Can see nice sunrise and place is so quite and family friendly, close to nice restaurants just 5 or 10 minutes. It is a little rocky but it great to spend all day there hanging out and snorkeling. would love to come back again soon!!

Did coral surveys here as part of a reef scuba course. Lots of wildlife to see. Didn't go ashore so can't comment on that.

Half Moon bay is home to a wide array of marine life that is readily witnessed with just a mask, snorkel and fins. The sea turtles visit annually to nest nearby and the variety of fish is amazing!

The water is warm and beautiful. One can swim there, but the surf can be somewhat challenging for some. It is a bit rocky, but good water shoes should help. Snorkeling is terrific if the water is calm. If you have come to see turtles nesting, then you have come to the right place. The beach is pristine and lovely.... More

We stayed three nights on Akumal Bay, and the view was plain beautiful! The sand was rather coarse and as other reviewers stated, the edge of the water is quite rocky. That was enough to keep us from going into the water to swim. On the other hand, it was perfect for lounging on a beach chair and reading a... More

We spent 4 days on half moon bay. We made a failed attempt at snorkeling the bay the first day, but the water was rough and with the coral not far below the surface of the water it was too dangerous. That being said on the last day the water was smooth and we spent a good two hours cruising... More

Urchins under every rock. I've never seen them so huge! Nice blend of things all over the bay. Very shallow. Go only when very calm.

Decent snorkeling from the beach, but compared to Akumal, access is more difficult due to rocks. On the other hand, there was only a handful of people in the entire bay.

Visited Akumal and Half Moon Bay for the first time. We'd only seen pictures online but were intrigued by the white sand and azure water. The pictures didn't lie! My wife does not like turtle grass or extensive weed in the water. Half Moon Bay had none of that. Sure, a little weed floated in after a storm but overall... More
