We came to half moon bay to snorkel for the day. We had our own gear. The first 2 hours we had so much fun in the water we saw so many turtles eating the seaweed from the ocean floor it was great. After that we had a guide show us the best spots to see all kinds of fish... More

Half Moon Bay is a beautiful place to stay. The water in the bay is shallow, and the coral reef encloses the half moon bay, which makes it a great place to go snorkeling.

We rented a house on this bay. Found a trail to the beach and there were locals there trying to rent life vests even tho we had our own. Don't know if they were assigned by the government to be there, or if they were just trying to make a buck. If they are working for the government they would... More

I had been here three years ago and it was great, not so now. You are no longer allowed to use your fins while snorkeling making it more difficult and less enjoyable. The reef has also died significantly since I was last here. I hardly saw any wildlife when previously I saw tons of turtles, very sad. I don't know... More

We love staying on Half Moon Bay. It is usually very peaceful with few people around. The snorkeling is excellent but it is rocky at the beach so water shoes are a must. Lots of new coral and many kinds of fish. Our biggest complaint is the groups that are being brought in. They set their things right by our... More

Snorkeling here more than made up for our initial disappointment in not being able to snorkel in Akumel proper (sea turtles have beach priority in late March). Although the sea was a tad rough, the two guides we hired in Akumal (look for the stand across from the Oxxo convenience store) had for our group of nine helped navigate us... More

I have stayed here 7 times and love it. The area is very very quite just the way I like it. The water is not easy to access but doable with water shoes on. The snorkeling is good and easy to do. It all condos and most look well kept.

We rented an AirBNB on the water in Half Moon Bay. We liked that there were no giant fancy resorts here. The beach is narrow but fine for walking and splashing. It's somewhat rocky as you go into the water, but fine after a bit. Great bay for snorkeling and seeing turtles. Perfect temperature, medium humidity, constant breeze, terrific wave... More
