greatplace to snorkel

The earlier you can get here the better. The tour groups make it hard to see the turtles after awhile. bring your own snorkeling gear

The attraction of Half Moon Bay over the years that we have traveled there is the easy access to a shallow reef which has a wide variety of sea life. While the sea can be stirred up after a storm or rough at times, if you can swim out to slightly deeper water you can enjoy an incredible snorkel.

Safe to say...no one snorkel Half Moon Bay. It is almost always to rough on the water...but we just stayed for 8 days and 2 days were very calm. Did a nice night snorkel with underwater lights.....and a most excellent day snorkel/skin dive adventure. Make no mistake....not for beginners!!! You have to swim out to the middle of the bay.... North Akumal is a great little place to stay. Half moon bay offers some boutique hotels with kitchenettes. Wide range of condos to rent as well. Not a huge beach to walk but very picturesque. Good snorkeling at the north end of the bay, clear water and some reefs make it worth doing. Go to La Buena Vida at the... More

We really loved half moon bay. Quiet and everything you think a hidden beach destination should be when you see it on a billboard. Good snorkeling, close food, a beautiful beach out the front door and gorgeous sunrises make for a great destination.

I'm almost reluctant to write a review of Half Moon Bay because it's such a special, quiet, beautiful place. It doesn't draw all the crowds and tour buses that Akumal Bay does, and you don't have all the snorkel tour guides hustling for clients. It's a much more peaceful beach experience than the main bay, in my opinion. It's also... More

So beautiful! A true taste of Mexico - beach, sun, coral, turtles, maybe a rain shower or two complete with rainbows - all of it's perfect! Please respect the environment and enjoy!

Most of the rental Condos are on Half Moon Bay and access to the water can be a little rocky but you have none of the guides trying to hustle you to pay for something is free. This is just you and the turtles. No suntan lotion ,no sprays and keep your distance and enjoy these magnificent creatures. The bay... More

This is the fourth visit we have made to Half Moon Bay, and I swear the turtles have all grown three-fold since our first visit! We saw no less than 30 turtles, and most of them looked the size of VW Beetles!

We stayed in a condo on the bay and snorkeled right in front of our condo. We saw baby turtles hatching here also.
