Our family of 6 thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the Santa Cruz cenote with Viktor. Viktor was personable and casual, yet very informative. All 4 of our kids, aged 8, 11, 14 and 17 said this was their favourite outing of our trip to Akumal. We highly recommend this tour! It should not be missed! Thanks Viktor!

We did a tour which included to Coba, Tulum and the cenote. They put us in small groups which was great. The cenote was wonderful. I recommend you bring snorkel gear to experience everything. There is a swing rope for fun, and a few caves to swim under if you are brave.

We were in Tulum for a week with our family in weeklong trip with 3 generations and the baby 10 mo old. I wanted something appropriate for the baby and didn’t need all to swim and discussed with the concierge at El Pez. She suggested cenotes Santa Cruz which was perfect for us. Nice and cool in the jungle, somewhat rustic but local. The water was completely clear and deep. The baby could see the fish. There were tables shaded by thatched local roofs and the family stayed by the table while some braved to cool water, while some just had tacos and nachos , very cheap or had beer or special mango Margauritas with pepper salt. A lovely afternoon.

Definitely a must-see! We had a private tour with Viktor and it was worth every penny. Viktor is great. He's very friendly, professional and knowledgeable.
The cenote is breathtaking. Not crowded as other cenotes I've visited. Wonderful experience.

Before I selected the Cenote Santa Cruz as one of our excursions, I read all of the Trip Advisor reviews on this activity. I have never gone wrong by selecting my hotel, restaurant, or activity, based upon the Trip Advisor reviews, and this choice was no exception. I agree with most everything that has been written about the Cenote Santa Cruz in these other reviews. It is a fantastic and most memorable experience that you will not want to miss.
I reserved this tour, directly through the Cenote Santa Cruz website. I had a party of 8 senior adults, ages 64 to 72. We are very active, fun loving senior adults, but perhaps a little beyond our prime. Nonetheless, this tour proved to be easily suitable to all members of our group, including claustrophobes and weak swimmers, alike.
All of my prior communication with the Cenote Santa Cruz was by email, to Viktor. However, on the day of our tour, Viktor was out of town, and J.P. was our guide. He did a wonderful job.
J.P. was waiting for us at the designated meeting place, in front of the Cervefrio, six blocks west of the main highway, in the Akumal Pueblo. We were transported in the back of his pickup truck, down a long and somewhat bumpy dirt road to the site of the Cenote. You can complain about the rough transport facilities or you can relish it. We chose to relish it, for where in our home of California can you still legally ride in the bed of a pickup truck. If was great fun! Once there, we were outfitted with first class floatation vests and an underwater flashlight and off we went, following J. P. into the jungle. You can tell that J.P. enjoys his job and he is passionate about the jungle, the trees, the flowers and, of course, the cenote itself. After a 10 minute walk in the jungle, we came upon the entrance to the cenote. The claustrophobes in the group sucked it up and we all, one at a time, descended the sturdy wooden steps, 20-30 feet, into the cave.
The beauty of the cenote is readily apparent with the hundreds of stalactites (holding “tight” to the ceiling) and the stalagmites growing up from the ground. J.P. does a great job of explaining the eons of history and the geology of the cenote. The tour starts in the dry floor of the initial cave and then proceeds mostly as a wading and swimming tour through the wondrously clear waters of the cave system. J.P. was very conscientious and sensitive to the fears and needs of our two “weaker” swimmers, and with his attention and the floatation vests, even they had the time of their lives.
The tour was private, non-commercial, and it was a true eco-tour through the most beautiful and pristine cenote that you can possibly imagine. Our group of 8 adults went to Xel-Ha, Chichen Itza, and we took a private guided tour around Cozumel Island. All things considered, the eight of us all felt that the tour of the Cenote Santa Cruz was our favorite excursion in the Riviera Maya. Do it! You will love it!

We met Victor in a small town off the highway. It took a bit to find him. Then drove down the world's bumpiest road for about 20 minutes. Turned into a sketchy looking little private 2-track drive. Donned life jackets and took a quick walk through the woods, down a little hole hole into a true natural wonder. This closed cave was gorgeous. We were so glad that we took a couple of hours for this tour. Victor, our guide was super friendly and went above and beyond to guide us and help us get home. My tip for you is to bring a pair of water shoes or sandals that tighten on your feet and bring a Go-Pro or other water proof camera. Don't bring a phone that is not water-proof! Helpful vote please!

I really want to say great things about Victor and our excursion to the cenote but I cant help but feel like we were take advantage of. The price on the website stated 400 pesos ($33 Canadian) but after emailing him with a few questions (without getting a response for days) he said the price was now 500 pesos. ($42 Canadian) My partner and I really wanted to do the cenote so we went ahead and paid the deposit. We arrived to the meeting spot approx 20 minutes early and after waiting and waiting we finally started walking up the street thinking we were at the wrong place, panicking that we were going to miss the tour. He stated that he would be in a red pick up and when we saw one park up the street it turned out to be his coworker and we were told that Victor would be arriving shortly.. not a good way to start the tour. The tour was great dont get me wrong, but for the price in our opinion, Aktun Chen or others in the area are just as nice. Afterwards, we kindly asked if he could drive us to Akumal beach as we read he had dropped others off at the beach, restaurants etc. but he stated he couldnt drop us anywhere in Akumal as he didnt have the right plates and said he would get a ticket from the taxi drivers who act as a "gang"..seemed a little fishy to us. He also mentionned that if he were to purchase these plates he would have to increase the price of the tour and we pointed out that he did raise the price but he didnt seem to get it. We tried to inquire as to why the price was raised if it wasnt for the plates and he stated that it was due to his recent family problems etc. (he spent the ride down to the cenote telling us that he and his girlfriend had recently separated) I dont understand why we would have to pay an extra $10 each Canadian for this. On top of this, when we went to pay him the remainder of money we owed him and stated that all we had were pesos, he attempted to charge us an exchange rate of 13.50 pesos to $1 Canadian which is absurd, our hotel and every other place we visited was 12 to 1. When we said this to him he said "well then pay me whatever you think is fair." Well pay you the standard exchange rate thank you. We also didnt like the fact that on the ride to the cenote he told us all about breaking up with his girlfriend and other relationship problems. Dont get me wrong I feel sorry for the guy but my boyfriend and I were there to have a good time and did not want to be bogged down by someone else's issues when we are supposed to be on vacation having the time of our lives. After our tour, on multiple occasions he would disappear and keep us waiting even though we were ready to go. He also took up more than enough of our precious time chit chatting and having us give him relationship advice. On top of this, he made some pretty inappropriate sexual references and even noticied that I was uncomfortable. Even after acknowledging that he was making me uncomfortable, he continued until I walked towards the car and stated "we'll just finish this discussion in the car." "When no one else can hear." This is no way to run a business in my opinion. Save your money and go elsewhere.

I have to give this a positive review, since it is beautiful and Viktor is very nice. However, when compared to the nearby Sac Actun (Pet Cemetary) cenote which is also $30 USD (Santa Cruz is going up to $40), Santa Cruz is not even close to being in the same class. We did them on back to back days, and while we enjoyed Santa Cruz, we were totally blown away by Sac Actun. Sac Actun is the same entrance off Route 307 as Dos Ojos cenote, but just further down the dirt road. Go there instead.

Let me start by telling you this is my third trip to Akumal on vacation. I have gone two years in a row, with my two best friends and this year I brought my 12 year old daughter. Do yourself a favor, dont read any more reviews. Just take this tour! Others have described this experience aptly, and it well deserves the 5 stars. Let me answer a few questions for you- this way you can skip reading all the reviews and you wont ruin the surprise. Heck, I read a bunch of them and was still pleasantly surprised but if I hadnt, it would have been even more amazeballs!
1. Yes, the reservation process is a little weird. Just go with the flow- he is way undercharging at $40 pp USD. So just email Victor, send the deposit to the paypal address and go for it.
2. You will be getting into a random vehicle in a strange little pueblo with complete strangers. Yes. Again, just go with the flow here. Its Mexico- dont expect to be coddled- sweating is good for you, and the people are quite nice. Just take a $10 taxi into Akumal Pueblo and have them drop you in front of the beer store. Victor was right on time, so you wont have to wait long. (our taxi driver gave us his number and agreed to pick us up 3 hours later. It worked out perfectly)
3. You dont have to be fit to enjoy this. Kids can do this, Grandma can. As long as everyone has good eyesight and is fairly sure footed.
4. You learn a ton and Victor's english is perfect.
5. Dont be a jerk and wear sunscreen, bug spray or any chemicals. Once you get down there and see how pristine the water is, you will be glad that he insists and that the people who went before you didnt ruin it!
6. Its nice and cool once you climb down.
7. The only "hard" parts are climbing down the ladder into the caves (20 steps maybe?), a few times grabbing a hand to step down into the water (if you can maneuver an escalator, you will be fine), and if you are tall, there is some minor ducking. It is not hard.
There, Now just go. Having spent a total of 25 days on 3 separate trips doing everything on the Yucatan, this was the coolest, and my group of 4 traveling companions agreed. Just do it. And bring cash, you will want to tip them handsomely!!
Oh, and the photographer took AWESOME pics. Bought them all for like $45 bucks and easily downloaded them.

How do you book this tour of Cenote Santa Cruz with Victor
Written May 10, 2020
you can book on line or just take a taxi there, most resorts have info also ,
Written May 11, 2020
Has anyone driven here without a tour? Where is it exactly (for driving instructions)?
Hard to find reviews that aren't part of a prearranged tour group.
Written October 8, 2019
I would agree with previous answer. You can drive your own vehicle but you would still need to arrange to meet one of the guides and follow him into the jungle. We were a family of 4 and no-one else joined our group. They keep the groups small to help protect the Denote. You won't regret it, it's one of the most amazing things we've seen.
