Awesome tour from the atv ride, swimming in a cenote and playing with monkeys. All the guides and staff were super helpful and attentive to anything you needed. A great half day experience to get away from the hotel and explore some of what Mexico has to offer!

Recently took the VEA ATV tour. Cost was 80 US dollars for a single per ride quad and 68 dollars per person if there is two persons on the quad. This includes pick and return to your hotel. The ATV part of the tour is about 10 kilometres each way. At the halfway point, you stop at a mini zoo area with some monkeys, a crocodile and a couple of babies, boa constrictor, peccaries and a few other critters. You can get a picture of you holding a boa constrictor.
You then take a walk through the bush to an underground Cenote. It is underground and they have a deck to put your stuff while you have a swim in the crystal clear water. Totally cool and the water is very refreshing.
The ATV ride is quite rough over rocks in some places and we had lots of big puddles as it had rained a couple days earlier. Lots of fun. We had one beginner driver and she had no trouble.
They take a number of pictures on the drive and in the cenote and want to sell you the pics on a disc afterwards for 35 US dollars. Not a high pressure sale.
Take a towel, bug spray, your camera and water. Good half day tour.

First time for me and my wife on ATV's.
Started the half day trip at 1130, really well organised and well worth the money. Bus 10 minutes up to the ATV starting point, kitted up with helmets and glasses, quick 5 minute learner familiarity with the ATV's then off for a great ride through the jungle tracks which was very exillerating and exciting.
Stopped off for a swim in an underground Cenote and then a visit to a local mini "zoo" / wildlife rescue centre. Good photo opportunities and hands on with the Spider monkeys and a Python! and a look at some Mayan bee hives.
Lost track of what time we got back but we did not feel rushed at all, we enjoyed every minute.
Staff were all very professional and courteous and knowledgeable.
Loosen up those muscles though before going, its fairly hard work driving ATV's fast, we ached a little the next day but it was well worth it.
We had a great time, thanks guys :)

Bad experience at all. The 5 hour full day tour was at least only 3 hours with a sprint photo session (70 extra dollar for photos) in the Sanctuary. We did not learned anything about the sanctuary or the animals and their stories. Only, really only photos and always they said “vamos, we have no time”. It was a shame. The atv, quad, trek was only a short, really short trip to the cenote. Don’t expect too much….

Fist off, let me say that our tour guild, Gabriel did an amazing job for what he had to work with. Our issues started before we even got to Mexico. We found their website online and booked and paid for a full day ATV trip that included driving ATV's all day. A day or two later received an email stating their website was out dated and that they no longer provide that tour anymore. Person emailing me kept pushing and forcing me to take a tour of Tulum and ATV's. They stated this was their new tour and everyone loved it. Spent about 30 min at Tulum, and then was take to a restaurant for lunch.... Thats where things started going down hill big time. We sat at the restaurant for over 2 hours just waiting. We didn't know where our tour guild was at or what we were waiting for. Then he came and got us and said that we have a bunch of time to waste before we can ATV so they are going to drive us around town but you can't get out of the car. So we spent the next 2 hours driving around the town of Tulum. The guide advised us we needed to pick another group up for ATVs but it was too early. So we drove down the highway at HALF the speed limit because we had to wait for the pick up time for the other group. To top it off, the guide stopped at a gas station so he could go in and get himself some snacks and chewing gum. It was almost 4 hours from the time we got done at Tulum and the time we got to the ATV place. Once we were on the ATV's it became a "staged" photo shoot where they make the group stop about every 5 min or so to pose for picture. Not very much driving the ATV's and was a waste of time.

Once we were done with the ATV's it was time to head home. We were loaded back into the van to be taken back to our hotel. We brought up some of our concerns and issues up to Alex one of the employees and he was very rude and told us we just had to deal with it. He did nothing to make anything right for the issues we had to deal with. We had to drop off the other group that we waited so long to pick up first. Then while headed back to our hotel, our driver had to stop and put gas in the van. Why couldn't that have been done while we were ATV'ing.

Over all what was suppose to be a full day of ATV riding turned out to be a 12 hour waste of time with only approximately 1 hour of ATV riding. I would look into other companies that focus on customer service as this one doesn't seemed focused on that.

Hello Steven, first of all we want to thank you for giving us this information, we took a few days to investigate every point and situation that you described in the review and now we have taken all the consequent actions to never have any of this anomalies again. We have very specific procedures for the reservation process and the operation of our tours, and thanks to your comments we realized that this particular tour was not attached to our standards. Also we are glad that you find some good points to on the tour and staff too. Most of the things you mentioned were unauthorized decisions that part of our staff made looking forward to make your tour better, but that is completely outside the norms and Service Standards of VEA and we pledge to not let it happen again nothing like this in the future. Again, we appreciate you taking the time to help us improve and we hope next time to enjoy an experience to live up to our standards, which are endorsed by the Certificate of Excellence 2015.

I highly recommend VEA ATV tours to anyone who enjoys an adventure for an affordable price. My girlfriend and I paid $140 USD (70 each) for a half day excursion with VEA. After doing some research, it was one of the cheaper costs compared to the other big name excursions. We booked through Air Transat in our resort (Grand Sirenis).

We were picked up right on time at 730am by a VEA bus, and transported to the Akumal Monkey Sanctuary which was about 15 minutes from our resort in Riveria Maya. From there we met our guide, Frederico. He was so passionate and knowledgeable, and was a lot of fun. After a full tour of the Sanctuary, we were assigned brand new ATVS (automatic and standard). After a quick lesson regarding the ATVS, we hit the dusty trails of Akumal. The ATVS were fast, and exceeded my expectations! I have been on many ATV/Dune buggy trips over the years and these were probably the best, newest off-roading vehicles I have driven. We had so much fun! Our journey took us to a private cenote (a natural underground sinkhole) which was a 15-20 minute ride each way from the Sanctuary. Frederico took my group for a swim, and a tour of the cenote, which was absolutely beautiful. The water was fresh, the sand was pristine and the limestone bedrock must have been hundreds of years old. We were lucky enough to spot Jaguar tracks in the sand of the cenote, as this is a natural drinking spot for wildlife! Once we arrived back at the Monkey Sanctuary, we were introduced to a pleasant Mayan lady who made us a quick lunch. She cooked corn tortillas over a fire on steel pans, they were delicious! (I had seconds). We were also treated to fresh pineapple water and Jicama (a root vegetable, which is slightly sweet, and nutty). Tip this lady! Lastly, the staff at the Sanctuary allowed us to see different types of monkeys, including the famous Spider Monkey! These little guys are so amazing. I purchased a flash drive for $50 USD and its well worth it. Great photos of my Girlfriend and I during the entire trip, from action shots on the ATV's, swimming in the cenote, and still shots of us holding various animals (Parrots, Boa Constrictor). They dropped us back at our resort by 1pm, which gave us basically a full day of beach and sun after the excursion. Highly recommend the half day trips.

This Sanctuary is funded by the Mexican Government and they save a lot of animals who have been smuggled into the country for the black market. They do a lot of good for these animals. Please tip the guides as they are extremely passionate for what they do, and its purely volunteer work. Look for Frederico as he was excellent! 5/5, you will not be disappointed!

We did this half day tour and we are very disappointed after reading the reviews on trip adviser we was looking froward to it we was wrong they were 30 mins late picking us up from the hotel then when they arrived there were no apologies after being in the bus for 10 mins I had chilled they had music playing full blast and it got me in the mood. But soon went down hill not long after, we arrived there are tour guy (Alberto) was rubbish and crap at explaining things we went out on the tour after I had figured out how to use the qaud my self non of us really revived any health and safety apart from hear is the brake and the gas and a quid show of the gears I understand that's near enough all you need to know but for people who are nerves or who have never drove before like my girlfriend it was rushed. we set out we felt like (Alberto) was rushing us I was ahead abit then I ended up in the bush ( my fault) but I was still getting the hang of it and when he was asking me if I was scared to go faster it sort of pressured me to speed up Anyway I went right in the bush on my qaud I cut all my arm open i quickly jumped off and pulled my qaud out the bush as I panicked (Alberto) saw this from behind abit but just drove past me he never asked if I was ok he just asked me if I was scared to go faster? In the end I just ignored him when he said anything and went at my own pace. There was also another girl from the uk fell off in front of them and they didn't really say much to her my girlfriend and a few other people asked if she was ok and non of the staff seemed like they knew what to do first aid wise. The girl went on the back of one of the guys qauds and finished the tour (can't remember his name but he was a nice bloke) we finally arrived to the animal sanctuary its miss leading as in the video for the company it shows you being able to hold the monkeys ect and get pics with them we held a snake and that was it he just spent his time talking to us about history of the place it wouldn't of been as bad if we could of understood him? Waste of time.. We Finally went to the cenote this was the best part of the tour it was really pretty and nice in there but was crap again as we only had 10 mins in there and was rushed we finally got back on the qauds and went back I felt better on the way back as I built up my conference from when I went in the bush but there was nobody about just me and my girlfriend everybody was in front when we got back to the place (Alberto) was trying to give his number to these two young girls lol anyway. We got on the bus to go back to there office when we got there we was looking forward to having pics and the video we had brought the 50 dollars for it when we arrived to there office they tried to rush off to take us back me and my girlfriend got up and said we want pics? We got off the bus went in the office and asked they just looked at each other confused they obviously didn't do them? We waited 5 mins then we said leave it this is rubbish and went back to the bus and got dropped off I can't really fault the company as the other bloke seemed nice and if we had him it might of been better but because of the poor service Alberto gave us we will never be back to this company and will not recommend for beginners!!

We were picked up and dropped off to our hotel on time. The atv ride was so fun. But the swim in the cenote was the most amazing thing I have ever seen. Absolutely beautiful. Then afterwards we went to the sanctuary for a tour and fed monkeys. It was a really good day, well worth the money and the 2 guides were awesome.

We booked the VEA excursion with our Thomas cook rep. This included hotel pick up and drop off to the animal sanctuary, driving an ATV each to a cenote then back again and a trip to Akumal beach for food and drink. We loved this tour, the animal sanctuary was great but I will review this on their trip advisor as it is separate. The ATV drive was super fun but be prepared for a bumpy ride and definitely get the goggles off the staff beforehand as sunglasses aren’t enough to protect your eyes from the dust. They were very good with inexperienced drivers aswell so don’t worry if you’ve never done anything like this before and they don’t leave anyone behind. The cenote was the best thing about the trip in my eyes, it was beautiful and the water was so clear. The trip to Akumal beach was also good where we were fed nachos and tacos and given an hour to relax on the beach. I would definitely use this company again. The staff were brilliant; informative, funny and very relaxed. Highly recommend.
