Although we do not often use tour guides, we decided to engage the services of Jaime based on the many positive reviews he has received, and we were very happy that we did. It was our first post vaccine trip, and we wanted to know the artisans and archeological sites in the northern area of Lake Patzcuaro. I can honestly say that we saw things and met people that we would have never encountered on our own. Even the roads he used were more scenic and relaxing than the usual tourist routes. As others have noted, his knowledge of the history of the area is extensive, but his obviously carefully cultivated relationships with the people of the area mean that you are welcomed as a friend everywhere that he takes you. The indigenous archeological sites were unfortunately still closed due to the pandemic, but you could see them from the outside and his recounting of their histories made the visits still worthwhile. The artisans we visited were very talented and a pleasure to know. He referred to many of his stops as his hidden treasures and he is right, because without him they would have stayed hidden to us. If you are lucky he may take you to visit his favorite carnitas restaurant as well. We would certainly tour with him again given the opportunity.

We toured two days with Jaime, the owner of Patzcuaro Magic Tours and it was great. He is knowledgeable and passionate about him home town and country. Jaime is a historian and once you finish a tour you are very versed in the history and culture of the area. He will also customize the tours for you so don’t hesitate to ask. I’m a paraplegic and use a wheelchair and this fact did not phase Jaime one bit. Thanks Jaime for a fantastic time.

I've taken three tours from Jaime: a private tour for two for a deep dive into colonial Pátzcuaro; a small group tour visiting a few of the outstanding artisans around the lake; and a fairly large tour on Día de los Muertos. In each, he showed an amazing talent for tailoring the tour to his group, and delivering an intimate and enlightening experience. On his tours, I've been invited into places I would never have had access to: homes observing Noche de Ánimas, the homes and workshops of outstanding artisans, all while delivering a wealth of historical and cultural context from a thoroughly modern perspective in a very engaging way. His English is impeccable and devastatingly charming, but I'm lucky to get to appreciate his work in Spanish. I live in Pátzcuaro and I can tell you that he's opened my eyes several times to what was right in front of me. Jaime is passionate about history and knows how to make the rich story of the Pátzcuaro region speak to you.

Jaime is an encyclopedia of Mexican, Spanish, and Latin American history and culture. He especially shares fascinating information about Lake Patzcuaro and Michoacan - much of which a lay person would have trouble finding online or in books. Jaime tailors your tour to your specific interests. Our most recent tour with him focused on our interest in the founding and early history of Patzcuaro. In addition to his encyclopedic knowledge, Jaime has a great sense of humor, is engaging, and in tune to his audience. A tour with Jaime will be a highlight of your visit to Michoacan.
