An easy 3 hour drive around the lake, more with the numerous scenic stops of your choice. Primarily a farming area but there are numerous shops in the small towns with statuary, handmade furniture and wood carvings, which are both unique and beautiful. The shop...More

Positives: lovely boat ride for both the clientele & the scenery. Negatives: Entire island devoted to tourism selling mostly non local trinkets to what turn out to be not enough tourists.

If one did not know that this side of the lake was polluted, the ride out to the island would have been more pleasant. The island itself is AWFUL! A terrible tourist trap that I would advise you to avoid.

I would recommend staying in Patzcuaro where there are so many hotel options. The ferry to the island takes only 15 to 20 minutes each way. In Patzcuaro we stayed at the Casa de Naranjo which is right on the Plaza - but... More
