I was a little scared at first but it was honestly a great experience. I do suggest to pack juices, and more food than what you first expected if it is your first time. We did 3 hours more than expected and we were a large group. So I do recommend you to go in a group, though we didn't hire a tour guide because a friend of us knew quite well his way around the mountain, it is kind of tricky the way so if it is your first time you might consider a tour guide! Try to go as early in the morning as possible because as the sun sets there starts to be a lot of fog and the ice starts to meltdown at the top of the mountain so it is kind of dangerous if you are inexperienced. Prepare yourself with boots and try layering your clothes as well as gloves there are super important in my opinion.

It is an extraordinary place that will give you magnificent views from above. It will take you about 4 hours to reach the top (4,200 meters above sea level) and another 3 hours to return to the base. You need good physical condition. Really great experience for anyone, even for short walks and hiking. Very safe place for foreigners, they have Forest Rangers, Rescue Team and the best Quesadillas and Mexican food at the bottom of the mountain (you will love it when you are starving after the exhausting hours of hiking!)

Not a hike for the weary - very steep incline and it's harder on your knees back down. But (if you make it there) the view from the mountain ridge above the tree line is well worth it. Possible to do it in a long day trip from Mexico City, otherwise there are cabins at the base of the trail.
