The Green Gables experience is part of what draws many to Cavendish and even Prince Edward Island. I learned a lot about Lucy Maud Montgomery and her personal and writing life. Many interesting exhibits like a walk of book covers for Anne of Green Gables in different languages. See if you can guess the purpose of the blank one! An astonishingly accurate Lego building of the house is in display with minute details like Lego sunflowers. There is variety and thought in the exhibits. Walking the grounds you can imagine Anne in Lovers’ Lane and the Haunted Wood. My only caveat is that it is a bit crowded and the area very touristy. That could be a blessing if you have small children who might want a sort of Boardwalk and games experience but don’t expect it to be too much like stepping back into Anne time. Still very much enjoyed it and my husband even started reading the book after we finished.

My visit to Green Gables was my first...color me charmed. We took a motor coach tour of Charlottetown followed by a visit to Green Gables. The Gables is about forty minutes from the port city. En route, are charming views of scrub fir forests, wetlands, and commercial oyster and mussel beds interspersed with marvelous views of the coastline.

The site itself takes on the visage of living museum with costumed interpreters, gardens, carriages, and a complete tour of the house. There is a café on premises and a fine visitor center with exceptional gift shop and exhibit area. Having not read the book, I enjoyed comments of those around me excited over the visit to Anne's room where they spied her special dress. They loved the moss rose tea service in the dining room and stated that it was set out for the vicar's visit. I had a great time and enjoyed my tour.

This is a 'must see' site when visiting Cavendish. Enjoy.

Not only did the author live here and be inspired, the rooms are decorated with items from the books and time period. You’ll see Anne’s room (note the broken slate, a carpet bag, and dress with puffy sleeves). There’s Marilla’s room (note her brooch), and Matthew’s room (note the newspaper). There’s a vintage mouse trap in the kitchen pantry. The house is wonderful.

The gift shop is very touristy but this site must attract people from throughout the world.

Green gables heritage place is a great setup to the memory of the author who create Anne of Green Gables. The historic site and heritage place has an interpretative centre, the house of her cousins (very cute house and a good spot for photos), few trails to wander (lover's lane, haunted woods trail - connects to montgomery park), overall its a nicely done site to honour the memory of the late author.

Good place to visit, especially for fans of Anne of green gables.

6.25/person admission fee is charged to visit the Green Gables.

During our shore excursion from the “10-Day Canada and New England” cruise aboard Caribbean Princess ship, we visited the Green Gables located at Cavendish in the Prince Edward Island National Park. Memorialized by Lucy Maud Montgomery’s “Anne of Green Gables” books, this site has drawn countless visitors from all over the world, especially from Japan. Since Anne of Green Gables has been required reading in Japan’s public schools, thousands of Japanese fans of the novels came here every year by plane or ship. Japanese Princess Takamado, who came to Prince Edward Island in 2019 to celebrate 90th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between Canada and Japan, was an avid reader of Montgomery’s novels and also was the Lucy Maud Montgomery Institute’s International Patron. After about 50 minutes of bus ride from the Charlottetown port, we arrived at the Green Gables site. The Green Gables and its surroundings were well preserved and well presented enough to inspire the fans of the novels. Inside the house, the beds and furniture were set up as if the novels’ characters just went out to the garden for a stroll. The exhibits were on display on the two floors of the house. Upon exiting the house, we walked toward the Haunted Wood Trail across the garden, and enjoyed charming views of the wood in colorful foliage. On the way out, we had delicious ice cream at Cordial Café before reaching the gift shop area. We had an enjoyable and heartwarming experience visiting this site.

Meh. Maybe it would have meant more if I read the book, but for me it was just so-so. Nice restored house, but not much more than that. I think we spent maybe 20 minutes there then left, hardly worth the $8 per person fee. There’s nothing to do there, and even the snack bar was closed. I can say I’ve seen it now, but that’s about it. Unless you’re a big Anne of Green Gables fan, there’s really not much point to this.

Reasonably priced. There is a cafe on site but it was closed when we were there on a weekday around 1:00 pm so eat before you get there. Public restroom available. Two gift shops with everything Anne/Green Gables you can imagine including the books themselves. There are horse carriage rides on site, a short nature path to walk and you can you down by the water too.

Cute and ok for the price - admission 6.75$

The house will take at most 5 min to talk through. Obivously there is a line up.

Apparently you can walk to the foundations of where Montgomery lived but I didn't do that. You had to go thru the "Haunted Wood" and golf course to get to it

They have a cute gift shop.

Can't believe the Cdn Govt bought the land and made this huge $$million dollar museum out this. This is not even the place where the movie took place. It was filmed in London Ontario not PEI (except for few beach scenes). The Author didn't eve n live here. The only connect to Anne of Green Gable was the author was inspired by the surroundings of the place where her aunt lived.

Luckily it wasn't terribly expensive but talk about exploiting a book/theme/story. A of GG this A of GG that. Bit tacky if i must say so.

The hike thru the lover forest and haunted forest was nothing exciting. the only thing you will get out if is some mosquito bites.

Ensure you don't go to Avonlea mall either. nothing there except overprice restaurants/food stands.

Normally this place is packed in a normal yr. Not during COVID. And for Japanese tourist it's there dream and #1 or 2 destination in Canada (after Banff). They are required to read in school so they all fantasize this world.

I had always wanted to go to PEI and see Green Gables. We were not disappointed. The property and home are very nice! Nature walks, antique buggy, Raspberry Cordial, museum displays and gift shop. Grounds were well maintained with lots of beautiful flowers and plants.
