Always look forward to stopping here when passing through. Delicious lunches with homemade soups, sandwiches and salads. Great ice cream too. Huge selection of products in the deli and bakery section. The sugar donuts here are the best! Get some for the road.
When travelling in Nova Scotia, a must see is the Masstown Market. It has everything you need on your grocery list plus more. It has a gift shop with a whole room of Christmas decor. There is fresh baked items. I had to try the...More
I bought cooked lobster from the Lighthouse and as well as tasting like rubber, the texture of the meat was rubber. Emailed the management, received no reply.

Masstown Market is worth the stop if you want great produce for a fair price. Also since the opened the Butchery and Creamery their assortment is better then ever. Friendly and helpful employees make the shopping experiment amazing.

Iconic place, I found it to be more of a large grocery store than a market per day. We did find what we needed such as good cheese and charcuterie.
They also offer prepared meals, as I discovered the long lines.

Trip report part 2 (3 Replies)
Part 2 of our trip : off to Cape Breton Highlands National Park!! Transition to park was a bit of a ride from Advocate Harbour, but to be fair, we did stop @ Masstown Market near Truro for some food to bring along to next campsite. GREAT store with LOTS of choices for just about everything! The visitor center in Port Hastings is a must stop in my opinion. We got alot of great info on different activities on Cape Breton...very helpful!! We took Rt 19 up the coast & it was very...More

Another lobster roll question (4 Replies)
I was really excited by Bedlace's recent thread on the lobster rolls at Evan's in Dartmouth. Suncathcher Truro chimed in with a recommendation for the Masstown market. We'll be visiting NS and PEI the first week in July and would appreciate any other suggestions for where to get great lobster rolls. I prefer a purist version, just toasted bun, lobster and butter. Not a fan of lots of mayo and added filler. I thought I found perfection a few years back at little restaurant somewhere...More

There have been some deservedly rave reviews for the lobster roll at the top rated restaurant in Nova Scotia, the Wild Caraway. They do put mayo on - but get this - they make their own, plus they make the bread it goes on, which they grill. I like mayo on mine and I have never had a roll that comes close to matching theirs - for the paltry cost of $12. The fisherman's wharf is across the street so they use fresh cold water Bay of Fundy lobster. It s a relaxed, easy going place so if you don't...More
Driving Stops between Port Hawkesbury and Wolfville (2 Replies)
We are planning to drive between Port Hawkesbury and Wolfville in one day, and are looking for suggestions where we could stop briefly. Masstown Market seems to be one alternative. Any other suggestions? Thanks for your help!

What sort of things did you want to do when you stop (have a walk; get something to eat, shop)? I'd suggest either Pictou or Truro. Even though I lived in Nova Scotia most of my life, my 1st visit to Masstown Market was a few weeks ago & I thought it very over rated. There was a market selling fresh produce & meat & bakery items, a restaurant, souvenir shop, & ice cream stand & I believe a play area outside. However, there was lots of people about, so I guess that everyone...More
