About
A hidden gem on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, the newly restored Chester Playhouse has had a rich history within the arts and culture community since 1938. This intimate performance venue is a favourite for patrons and performers alike, attracting local, regional, national and international entertainers. While staying in Chester for several days in Oct 2019, my daughter and I were fortunate to take in a performance at the Chester Playhouse. We saw Makayla Lynn and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. She has quite a stage presence ... interspersing her singing with stories. Although I'm not a "country music" fan, I did find her music pleasant. Makayla seems to be an up and coming star ... kudos to her!! My daughter bought her CD, which we listened to on our trip back home.

This is a great local venue where plays, music, comedians and other entertainment happens. This event was a local band doing a tribute of John Denver music. It was. Great evening. There is coffee and sweets for sale at intermission.
Best to get tickets ahead of time, like on line, by phone etc because events usually sell out.

We've been to this play house a few times and each time I say I won't be back. I get conned into going by friends that tell me there is a good play on but I've yet to see what I'd call a good play. The actors are amature, the sets are amature and the playhouse is dated. Intermission is a joke where the tiny lobby fills with a group of snooty locals acting as though they're somebody special and important.

We took friends last night to see Albert Schultz's - one man 'Frankly, Sinatra' show. Absolutely fantastic! If this show happens to be in your area it is definitely a must see. While the show is terrific the venue helps make it. A small theatre with no more than 150 - 175 seats it has excellent acoustics and great sight lines - regardless of the show you are watching. The theatre management team has done an excellent job of bringing in different talent and art forms for the betterment of the community. BROVO to all of you. Will definitely be returning. If in the area, pick a show and attend. You WILL NOT be disappointed.

I like the fact that you can drive to Chester from Halifax in less than and hour, have dinner in a pub (like the Foc'sle Tavern), attend a show and still drive back to Halifax the same evening. The productions are professional and geared to summer entertainment.

It's a lovely venue. The building is very beautiful, on the outside, and just as beautiful inside. It's a cozy theatre, but has enough leg-room to be comfortable.

Charming little theatre! We saw 39 Steps which we had seen in London. To be honest, I expected it to be middling but was amazed at the quality! Tremendous acting cast and excellent set design. If you are in the area, go and support this great theatre!

We had rented a vacation home close to Chester for a 4 day stay. On the first night the playhouse had a spectacular concert tribute to John Denver. Fabulous sounds and the familiar voice of the Country Boy of the 80's. From Rocky Mountain High to Country Roads, the audience sang and clapped to the rhythm of the band.
