The lighthouse is a terrific stop when you're touring Cape Breton. The hike is mostly level, dramatic, with views of crashing waves onto the rocks and the lighthouse itself. Equally interesting is the history of lighthouses in general and this one in particular. The original one at this location is the oldest in North America! Unfortunately, the interior was not accessible to climb.

Amazing views. Lots of parking and well marked trail. First part is great for any level of hiker but if you hike onward past the coves there are stunning coastal views. About 10 km to Lorraines head and back. Super views of the lighthouse and coast. We went on a windy day which was great to keep us cool

It’s a great trail for hikers as well as walkers. The start of the trail is quite nice with great views and the trail is easy to walk on . It forms the first loop. The second loop after that is much more rugged. It’s a wilderness hike from there. Fallen trees, mud and water, etc. bit the views are amazing.

Easy hike with amazing views of the lighthouse and the crashing Atlantic waves. On our hike, we encountered a wolf (possibly a coywolf). He stared for a few moments and then disappeared into the forest. Numerous memorial benches along the trail allow you to savor the sensory experience.

This is an excellent trail for a walk, not too long and with amazing views. We did the trail the day after a strong 'noreaster' and the waves were spectacular. The trail is well maintained and although there are a few hills it is generally an easy trail. There is an initial trail with a loop at the end that is about 3.8 Km, but you can extend the trail by walking past the rocky beach at the end (A sign explains this), but this part is longer. There is no washroom at the actual traIL sight, but there is one just a short way back down the road that leads to the lighthouse.

I was looking for a coastal hike close to Sydney. Cape Breton Highlands was too far away. This proved to be as good a coastal hike as I have found anywhere including Portugal, Ireland and British Columbia. Enjoy!

We found this trail using AllTrails app and decide to give it a try. The trail winds along the coast with lots of great views in every direction. It’s about a 1 1/2 mile loop from the lighthouse. We arrived about 4 pm and there were only a few others at that time so a nice peaceful walk. The incline is maybe 150 ft max. I would recommend if you are in the area visiting the fort.

This was a fairly easy trail that followed the coastline from the lighthouse. There was a bit of a rocky stretch to pick up the trail along the way but very manageable. Fun thing to do in Louisbourg.
