My Husband and I visited here in August 2021. We started the trek in the morning and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The trail is an easy hike and we were a bit skeptical as the first part of the trail was through the woods where there isn't much for scenery although there are a few information placards posted telling of the history of the trail.
After about a half hour the trail starts to narrow and that is when look offs start to appear on both sides. From here there are great views of Cape Smokey and Ingonish as well as long stretches of rugged Cape Breton coast line. The end of the trail is a rewarding rocky outcrop that lets you feel the ocean breeze on your face while basking in the sun.

A nice trail that is not too long and right next to the Keltc Lodge where we went for live music after hiking. The views along the trail are very nice but at the end you are highly rewarded. One of my favorites of all the hikes we did.

Dip in and out of the nooks and crannies to engage this beautiful hike. At the beginning, you feel like you are on a strenuous climb up, but after that it's the rewards of gorgeous views. We took an outer route for a longer hike and were able to see some often missed views. If you do this wear good hiking gear as you are navigating less obvious trails.

This is one of the shorter hikes in the park and departs from the Keltic Lodge. Good view of ocean at the end, but lots of up and down and tree roots on the heavily used and eroded trail. The loop out in the clockwise direction is less used and eroded.

A fairly short hike but challenging for those with any height issues. I was only able to go about half way because of the steep drop offs that were coming up. What I did was enjoyable. The trail was busier than we hoped. At points it is narrow so a need to step aside and let others pass through.

A beautiful hike through the bush, over rocks and along the shoreline. It was very hot the day we were walking but we were not disappointed at the end of our walk. Absolutely stunning views. Make sure you have water and good footwear for this hike.

This is a great spot to hike if you don’t have or want to spend a whole day for one hike. It’s about 4 km round trip. It is not stroller or wheelchair accessible. While it’s a relatively easy hike there are lots of stumps and ups and downs so not for anyone with bad knees or hips. Beautiful views at the end. Took us about 75 minutes and we stopped to take photos a lot.

I loved this hike. Good distance to sweat out a bit and had enough climbs and downs. My phone recorded 33 flights on this hike. As previous reviewers mentioned Yes there were roots on the trail and this is ok for experienced hikers like us. It can be challenging for inexperienced ones. Views were ok not outstanding.

Beautiful scenic walk with sea views. Rugged trail, but full of interest and unexpected views. One of the best trails in Cape Breton in our opinion. Thistles, wild raspberries, and beautiful views, topped by an end of the world ocean view at the end of the trail. Worth the 1 hour to 90 minute walk as it keeps your interest throughout.

As a plus sided person, I was worried this hike might be a bit too rugged. But the 4km return trip was lovely. It does have its ups and downs, rocky and root covered spots, but if you’re moderately in shape it’s 100% doable. The views at the end were spectacular and along the way too.

Hi Jeff, How long is this trail? Is it doable in one day if our cruise ship docks in Sydney at 800am and we have to be back there at PORT by 400pm?

I don’t know about the travel time to and from your cruise ship, but the trail is 2 km each way and takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours at a leisurely pace.

The start of the trail is just past the Main Lodge of the Keltic Lodge, at the end of the Keltic road, after you pass the main lodge keep right, there is a good sized parking lot there! The trail is fantastic with lots of beautiful ocean views! You can make the circular route which is about an hour or so, depending on stops! You can also go out to the end of the cape, I would suggest this to get all the great views! That is about another hour! I live only a five minute drive from there and love this trail!
