Our family of four booked a half day morning kayak tour and had a wonderful time. None of us had tried sea kayaking before but we were in good hands with Graham and Serena. At approximately 3 hours, it was just the right amount of time for us. There were three other people on the tour with us but it felt very personable. The weather and the water was perfect and we’ve never stayed this dry kayaking before! Definitely recommend this for solo adventurers and families alike. Extremely good value!

We had a great morning with these guys. Great instruction and safety training for newcomers. Our guide was very professional and friendly. It was our first time kayaking and it took less than 5 minutes to get really comfortable and grasp the basics. The area is amazing. We must have seen upwards of 10 great blue herons up close. Cormorants, a very large bald eagle's nest and an awe-inspiring coastline. I am not particularly fit at 5'11/205lbs but had very little problem with the cardio/workout. Slightly sore shoulders the next day, in a good way :) My thanks to North River Kayaking for a fantastic experience!

We booked this at the last minute following the hurricane that had hit the area the day before. No problems getting to the NRK site - go north on the 205 towards Ingonish, over the bridge at North River and turn opposite the white church; about 3 km down an unmade track but easily accessible in our hire car! We were met by Katy - a delightful, knowledgeable and welcoming lady - who took us through all the safety stuff; nothing too tricky or of concern! One of us was fairly experienced whilst the other less so but NRK accommodated us both and delivered a great 3 hour trip. We would highly recommend this to beginners and experienced kayakers alike.

My family of 5 had a fantastic time paddling with the crew at North River. Everyone agreed it was a great day out (even my 12 year old son who paddled alone and had a bit of a struggle on the way back has fond memories of the trip). Tour was 2-3 hours in length. The water was calm and not at all intimidating. We saw a bald eagle and a massive eagle nest on our trip. The general surroundings were peaceful and pretty. Several weeks after the trip, I’m happy to report that I still believe that the tour at North River was money well spent!

I was a little worried when we starting driving down a dirt road, but once we got there, everything was VERY organized! The facilities were super clean and the staff super friendly. They were very patient with my anxiety as it was my first time kayaking! Of course I fell behind the rest of the group, but Alan (so sorry if I messed up the name!) helped me figure out what I was doing wrong while paddling and soon i was on the move. Sofia was very funny and friendly which also helped me feel at ease. We were the ONLY people out on the water! It was so peaceful and a great way to experience Cape Breton Island. As soon as we were starting to get tired, we stopped at a little beach with a little waterfall and had some banana bread with rhubarb jam and chai tea. It was delicious! I was so sad we didn't see a bald eagle in the huge nest on the way there, but on the way back, we saw one perched up on a tree. There was also moose bones from a moose that had passed, which was interesting to see. Overall, it was a great experience! Bring cash in case their credit card machine isn't working, and of course to leave a nice tip for the guides. They earn it!
