I don’t know what I was expecting, but Kevin’s walking tour exceeded my expectations a hundredfold. At $15 per person for 2 hours and 30 minutes of history, culture, scenic beauty and a few good laughs, this is the best deal around. Be sure to bring extra cash because you will want to tip this gentleman generously!

If you plan to visit Trinity, this tour is a must. Although the town is a lovely collection of buildings, shops, theatre, and restaurants, Kevin Toope’s stories make it come alive. He is a member of a longtime Trinity family and is well positioned to discuss the town’s history. Through him one learns about the persons who lived and died there, the challenges they faced, their aspirations and legacies, and the town’s current state of affairs. He also situates Trinity’s place in Newfoundland’s history. Finally, he notes that Trinity’s archives are uniquely complete, and that they could provide relevant links to families researching their roots. Kevin has done his homework, and his love of giving this tour shows. You will spend two hours with him and cover less than one kilometre on level ground which should make this tour accessible for most.

This was our first trip to Trinity and we decided to do the walking tour. Kevin was absolutely fantastic. His knowledge and love of Trinity are out of this world. He was not only informative but made the information relevant to today's history. He answered all of our questions. He was very friendly and made us feel like family.

Very informative two and a half hours of history of Trinity and Newfoundland. Very professionally done with props and pictures. This is more of a historical tour then architectural although Kevin does discuss the different types of salt box houses. Just show up in front of his house at 10 am. A must do if in the area

Kevin Toope is one of Trinity's Treasures. He is a skilled and knowledgeable storyteller who studs his narration with tapes of voices from the past of burial records and other documentation. The 2 1/2 hour tour included wonderful vantage points to view the harbour and there were spots to rest along the route. One of the best guided tours I have experienced.

Kevin has done an incredible job researching the origins and importance of Trinity from its very beginnings. We very much enjoyed the interludes of recordings of court proceedings and narration of other historic records that served to provide colour and a better perspective of life in the area prior to the 20th century. The Toope/Toop family roots run deep here and Kevin's family history is interwoven with the history of the area making him an engaged and engaging guide. Being the post card town it is today is no small thing and preservation of the history of the area seems to be in good hands.

Thank you Northeys!! Trinity's history is well documented and its archives are a treasure trove of historical information. However, it is the personal stories and experiences of individuals and groups of people who have lived here over the centuries that brings it to life. I'm glad you enjoyed the tour.

Kevin is FANTASTIC. He's a local of Trinity and retired teacher. His ability to captivate and story-tell grabbed my attention for the duration of the entire tour.

He offers a good balance of history (factual stories) and personal experience to give the whole picture of what Trinity was like through the years.

I recently had knee surgery, and found the pace and the terrain to be easy walking. Also, Kevin didn't bother to walk the long distance up the town's hill to read plaques. I appreciate that he gave us so much information, with a hands on feel.

My favourite moment was learning about the salted cod, and Kevin even welcomed us inside his shed to show us!

A must do!

Thank you Alison for your review. It is the personal experiences of the individuals and groups of people from Trinity's past that makes its history so special and interesting. So glad you enjoyed the tour.

This tour is about two and one half hour long. It gives fivee hundred years of Newfoundland history as Kevin Toope, the guide, strolls along scenic paths and lanes of Trinity. He is an excellent, excellent guide and is even better because he includes stories of the area when he was a boy growing up and shows pictures of relocated fishing villages.

He gives tours from at 10:00 AM Monday to Saturday for $10, and this is a huge bargain!
We got there about 11:00 AM and saw people strolling around. One of the people living in the village of Trinity said that we should go join the tour--people do that all the time and it's perfectly OK. We took him at his word and joined in and felt we got a true overview of the fishing industry, what had been happening to some of the villages, and how people grew up in this area. This was one of the best tours we've ever taken and I would go back and do it again in an instant. Not to be missed!

Thank you so much for writing a review on tripadvisor about your Trinity Historical Walking Tour experience. From your review I remember you very vividly because you joined the tour about halfway through and continued with me to the end. I am so glad you appreciated the combination of Trinity history, Newfoundland history, and personal family history which ties it all together. Thanks again. Kevin

Kevin Toope is a longtime resident of Trinity. He delivers an extremely well-researched and well-presented 2-2 1/2 hour tour of Trinity, complete with recordings of diaries, court documents and prominent historical figures of Trinity. He is able to provide a variety of unbiased perspectives on historical perspectives on events significant to his community, province and country.

Kevin Toupe's Historical Walking Tour of Trinity, Newfoundland, was one of the highlights of our trip to the Avalon Peninsula. Full of historical detail and humorous anecdotes, he put a human face; that of his own families, on Trinity and all Newfoundland out ports. It was without a doubt, the best value for our dollar on this trip/
