Great Family Activity

This is a hands-on display space that's great for kids to learn and explore marine life on the East Coast. Fun, too!

A little piece of Newfoundland that should not be missed.

We went into Champneys today to view their ocean life displays. What we got was so much more! The people running the venue greeted us warmly but told us we might like to come back later in the day because there was a class of children there for a field trip this morning. As we had a time constraint we decided to stay. What a wonderful experience. Not only were we able to view the many tanks of sea creatures from the area, we were able to watch the wonder in Childrens eyes as they were allowed to hold many of them. This venue is spidered by locals and has no government funding yet they are able to provide such rich exhibits and have stories to tell about each. Anyone visiting the Bonavista pinninsula needs to take the time for a visit to this aquarium.

We had no expectations when we saw the sign on the road but we were quickly impressed when we walked in!! We spent over an hours there . The kids really enjoy the touching tank. They had some fishes i had never heard of( cant remember the name) and some cool skeleton!!! Definitely worth the stop.

Wonderful experience

We stopped into the aquarium during a visit to Trinity last week. We were so impressed. The building is beautiful, clean, and accesible. The staff (especially Phyllis) were so friendly and helpful. They have a large accesible washroom with a change table. The staff happily showed our toddler the touch tanks
(3 times). They showed us the craft area where she could colour, do puzzles or crafts. There is a little boardwalk outside with access to a beach. There are also some small local crafts available for purchase. Such a gem of a place in Champneys west, which is well worth the visit.

We stumbled on the Aquarium while just driving around sightseeing in the Port Rexton area and decided to have a look-see.
SO GLAD WE DID!!
Cyril, David and Valerie were wonderful hosts and took turns guiding us around the various areas of the aquarium, explaining each exhibit and what we were seeing. It was a delight to learn about the creatures living just outside the door of this beautifully designed building - so full of light!!
David gently removed critters from the 'touch tanks'. Cyril used to make his living fishing on the high seas and everyone contributed so much to our experience at the aquarium.
All three of the staff members were eager to share their knowledge of all the sea creatures with us and answered our questions. They were equally terrific with the many kids that arrived in small groups after we did.
Admission fees are very affordable and it is money well spent for the hour or two that you'll spend learning.

This aquarium has very knowledgeable staff and a great Hands On experience. They have tanks with local marine life and lots of different species. You get a private guided tour of the tanks. So interesting to see the variety of fish, crabs, star fish ect.

An excellent small aquarium for everyone

We stumbled upon this gem an aquarium. We went with our children ages 7 and 10. This place is very charming with touch tanks featuring local sea creatures and guides to provide you with interesting facts. There's also a pebble beach in the back great for skipping stones. The aquarium also sells a variety of prints from some local artists. Champney's is definitely worth the five minute detour off highway 230. Thank you, Valerie.

We had a great visit. Very friendly staff. This is a nice facility for such a small town. Don’t miss talking to Glenn. His thirty years on the water makes him a very knowledgeable guide. A good fisherman ‘s viewpoint. Also Kate and the rest of the staff are wonderful to talk to.
